I think Lynx was in the UK first and it was re-branded elsewhere as Axe because the Lynx name was already used by another product in the USA market.
They are both, however, brands of a company called Unilever, which seem to be rather hypocritical when it comes to their advertising campaigns. The Axe/Lynx brand presents women in a very different light to their Dove / Real beauty brand. What's going on there? Is Unilever suffering from corporate schizophrenia? ;)
