That dog would either be in some kind of training school or Id would get rid of him. You cant be concerned about a dog who won't obey. Theres a reason hes in a kennel, he needs to stay there. No matter how "cute" it appears to be. I trained dogs for 7 years, and that is just not acceptable control.

Well most would think its kewl, but dogs continue to learn on their own and continue to do what feels good to them. If there are no consquences put in place with the rules, dogs are oppertunist, and will take advantage of you. Say like you have some pizza on the counter, dog nabs it you do nothing about it. He will continue to grab your food because there are no consquences. Just think if the dog gets a hold of chocolate, humm??? What then? We all should have rules, even mans best friend poochie

We werent saying that WE leave chocolate out. We were using it just as a EXAMPLE FOR A BEHAVOUIR PROBLEM. And yes, some arent educated enough to not leave dangerous stuff out like that. Lots of dogs have that certain problem, its called counter surfing. You have a sandwich or some kind of food on the counter they will sneek in and grab it off the counter when you arent looking. And yes the best solution for this is NOT to leave anything in reach of the dog. ESP chocolate. ;)

May I add that our dogs never steal anything. Our oldest dog loves vegetables but more over fruit. It's always laying on the low table. She could grab it easily but she knows its OUR food. So she doesn't steal it. You can even leave food on the table and she still doesn't take it. Though from time to time she does try and see if she can get away with sniffing at it. Which will be punished of course. If you never give your dog some of your own food, it won't steal your food either =]
