the best for starters to merch (people who have 200k) is to buy iron ore and twice as much coal and then smith them to steel bars, you make a 150~ profit per bar, depending on how much you buy and sell them for. but you have a minimum profit of 123 gp per bar. i made 100k in around 3 hours doing this. plus it does wonders to your smithing level!
