You should watch Branka Parlic, for some extraordinary interpretations of Philip Glass (including Wichita Sutra Vortex )!
Sometimes it seems she puts more feel to the composition then Glass himself. I will not argue who is better, tough. We can't really know what is his intention for any particular piece. Awesome playing here!
This is wonderful. Again, you have such a great feel for the music. I watched Glass perform this live about a year ago. Before he played this piece, he talked to the audience about his friendship with Ginsberg. He accompanied it with a recording of Ginsberg reciting the poem. You can find a similar recording using the search term below if you are interested.
Allen Ginsberg - Wichita Vortex Sutra #3 (Composition by Phillip Glass)
@TechniCT Hey, thanks very much. I'm jealous you saw him live. Even though he's not the best performer technically (judging by his recordings anyway), I still like the way he plays better than anyone else playing his music. I'm listening the Ginsberg/Glass video right now, and even though I've read the poem before, I don't think I really grasped how the poem and the piano piece related. This is really opening that up for me though. Amazing how deep something so simple can be. Thanks.
@SexyItaliana3 Awesome. There's just something about it. There was about a month where this song played over and over in my head, nonstop. I figured I might as well learn it.
@Brazilady Thanks. No improvising on this one; everything is written out. It's the kind of style that's pretty easy to improvise with though. I play around with the chords and patterns often enough.
@richi1381 Hey, thanks a lot. The keyboard is a Yamaha CP33, but I'm running it into my computer as MIDI and using a software piano called Art Vista Virtual Grand Piano 2. I'm still kinda playing around with it, but I like the sounds I've been getting so far.

This is great! I love this piece, too. That keyboard sounds great, by the way. What kind is it?

@csybu I got into Philip Glass a year or so ago, and became obsessed for a little while. His music is different for sure, and I like it a lot.

Damn, man. NICE! It's not everyday one hears a Philip Glass cover. How about some Art Lande up next for a brother? ;-)
LostChameleon 1 year ago
@LostChameleon Thanks. Honestly I'm not that familiar with Art Lande, but I'll be sure to change that.
