@homelessher0 You need to go in the executable properties and check disable desktop composition and deactivate visual themes. Then, you need to go into your steam library and into the game properties and disable steam overlay and the auto update to the game. It should work. Hope it helps.
I love this game. It's superb. Every single class offers totally different gameplay experience. Story-script is really well written. Side-quests are not boring (like in so many other games :X). The atmosphere is terrific. I too agree thought that the initial release of the game was way too buggy. So far this is the one of the best RPGs and the best vampire-themed game. A precious jewel that every gamer should have in his/her game collection.
Deus Ex engine should be used to make the sequel. Feels much like bloodlines. Just if they could get a talented group of people to make the story and awesome music...

This game is amazingly fun.I picked this game up because of a sale on steam and before I knew it I had spent a good 20 hours into this game.worth the $10 I spent on it.This game has plenty of content and longevity if you choose to explore.
I strongly suggest people to stay FAR away from this game, especially the Steam version since it doesn't support any kind of newer screens what so ever. It will run at a very low resolution making it almost impossible to see anything in the game.
@Cyberpunk747 You need to download the True Patch Gold with the resolution patcher. Look at my videos for an example of how the game looks after the patch.
this reminds me just SO much of True Blood... If you can Bite people (or Drain them or whatever) and use that Glamour thing, then I am getting it. Somebody please tell me.

@Flashlight1996 Well one really good excuse could be that they were basically rushed when making this game. Troika shut down about a year after this was made because of Activision, so they had to get this game out as quickly as possible. Plus, you can't always base how a game is based on it's graphics. Some of the best games have shitty graphics, and some of the worst games have very good graphics.
Excellent game. Recommended if you like Deus Ex-type gameplay. Thing is, don't buy it, Troika won't be getting any money, only Activision. Seriously, if you have to, illegally download this game. Activision is scum and the sole reason why Troika was shut down and this game was rushed. Do not give them your money. And oh, make sure to get the unofficial patch, the game is at version 7.5 by now, with official patches ending at 1.2. If you don't patch it, well, it'll be really buggy.

@patryk30111 White Wolf is partly to blame for some of the game's problems too. This game was made when White Wolf was discontinuing Masquerade to make Requiem. As a result, they did very little to support Troika or advertise the game.

Show some respect for the industry and the product's developers. Even if the developers don't get the money, Activision does - and they make summary's on it, so if the number of copies sold rises - they might think of releasing a new game too. After all, they aren't developing any of these games on their own.
Just finished Deus Ex HR (which was awesome) but I couldnt stop thinking about the similiarities and how epic VTMB would be on the same engine.. but i think its safe to say that will never happen... :(
Bioware are great at games but seriously try the latest Deus Ex, the conspiracies, characters, ost and engine give you a glimpse of how epic a VTMB by them would really be.
@patryk30111 Also, torrents often contain viruses and make money FOR the pirates. The Pirate Bay itself is an entire machination! Just look for how many things they're suspected for. These people tend to glorify themselves, but there ain't nothing to be proud of. Yes, I used to be a pirate, but only because there was no alternative. You can now use Steam, it's very effective, safe and pretty much rewarding. Piracy just damages everything, even if the people who made it weren't exactly angles...

Call of Duty is nothing to be feared of, but if we prove that this game is worth buying, Activision will make more efforts into continuing the franchise. @patryk30111 Activision doesn't exactly *make* these games. They just publish them. But Troika brought it on themselves, they had to be more careful with the pre-production stage, and... that is the price for not managing it properly.
@MisterAAnderson I suppose you're right in a way. Troika tried to make a massive game in a short amount of time, and it just ended up being too much. Still, I just hate publishers, especially Activision. Wouldn't it have been better if Activision lost more money by giving them more time and then upon release it would have been a much better project and either way they'd make it back with sales? Assuming they finished it.

Sure publishers always behave in a very greedy manner, but wasn't it like that in all other industry's? Yes, it was, and I think that even if Troika ceased to exist, it would be reasonable to still buy the game, just to commemorate the 6'th generation. After all, 20 $ isn't too much at all...
@patryk30111 remember that from activisions point of view they had no idea if the game will sell, all they see is this idea that they have a budget set for it and a time limit which troika have to stick to, the more money it takes to make it the more sales it needs to make it a worthwhile investment. Publishers are unlikely to invest alot of money in new franchises because they simply might not be popular.

What are you basing your opinions on? Diablo sketchy? What are you talking about, Diablo 3 is just around the corner and will sell millions of copies.
Guitar Hero died because they managed to release around TWENTY different games/expansions within three years. Everybody got bored. World Of Warcraft is one of the most lucrative video games ever, but what about WARCRAFT? The RTS series? After WoW dies, if it ever dies, there won't be any more for a long, long time, whether they bring it back to its original RTS format or keep the MMO format.
As for Diablo 3, yes it'll sell well. There's a lot of picky opinions however based on how it's straying farther and farther from Diablo 2 and looking more and more like a over-the-top WoW, minus the complete open world. That, plus the controversial Battle.net 2.0 DRM and this undetailed Auction House idea they have going makes it sketchy at this current moment. I'm guessing it'll still be fantastic.

A lot of people nowadays are of the impression that vampires can't be used effectively in fantasy fiction, because their views are skewed by that paranormal romance crap, but this setting shows that you can use them without appealing to pre-teen girls.
I don't blame you - I'm a nerd myself and I obsess over games I like as well. But honestly; considering the combat system and the sneaking system in the game it does drag the game in the mud. A few more years in development and it could have been something really special. Also the last levels in the game are a total mess.

besides you have one with freaking vampires and the other one with a cyber dude, you cant really compare them, they felt completly different.
This trailer is awesome! What the hell happened to the animations, discipline graphics and sound effects. Not to mention the good PC and NPC models. And don't get me started on bad clipping on the clothes...

Such a sad shame that the studio is gone, this was one of the best pc games I've ever played. Sure it was a little glichy, but the fact that fans made patches after the studio was shutdown should tell you how amazing this game was.
When I bought this game I never imagined it would become my most favorite game of all time and I played through it at least 8 to 10 times and I still return to it regularly. It is a game that feels like home to me. And it is a game that deserves a modern successor. From the start I played it with the unofficial patch made by wesp, so I never ran in to the bugs others mentioned. This game's atmosphere is unique and I crave more of it.
If I do not remember incorrectly this computer game is the last product made in the old World of Darkness setting if you do not count some products for the Vampire the Masquerade card game. I love the old World of Darkness, I like the new setting to but I wish they had made more products for the old one.
This was a fantastic game, but releasing it was a major shortcut. Shipped with placeholder graphics, missing levels, tons of bugs, and the marketing seemed bent on getting lonely boys to want to play (something the game did little to cater to) The official patches didn't fix much, but some fan work can help. Would love to see a reputable company take an honest stab at a game like this... with all its faults and shortcuts... its still a very entertaining game to play.
@qwer58j Are you thinking actual table top role playing or computer games? For if you are thinking table top there are several, just to mention some, new World of Darkness, Nightlife, The Everlasting, Witchcraft, Unknown Armies and Lost Souls.
@qwer58j Well you have Hellgate London, Jerico, The Fear series, the Silent Hill series, Condemned, Second Sight well just to mention a few. Not to mention that there are more World of Darkness computer games, another Vampire the Masquerade game named Redemption and two Hunter the Reckoning games. They are as far as I know also working on a MMORPG for a new version of World of Darkness, neither old or new, a completely original one. There are allot of supernatural themed computer games.

I used to be able to talk to her the first times I played, I can't imagine what may have changed since then. This game is known for bugs... as shitty as it may sound, you might want to consider pirating this game, I have a pirated copy that works better than my patched retail one... if that doesn't work, it's likely your pc that's at fault. Hope it works, this game is worth the effort.
I didn't like Bloodlines very much. To New Age for my taste. The first half of Masquerade was awesome though!

That is sad cause this game hasn't "aged" well graphically.

Bioware are great at games but seriously try the latest Deus Ex, the conspiracies, characters, ost and engine give you a glimpse of how epic a VTMB by them would really be.

@patryk30111 Also, torrents often contain viruses and make money FOR the pirates. The Pirate Bay itself is an entire machination! Just look for how many things they're suspected for. These people tend to glorify themselves, but there ain't nothing to be proud of. Yes, I used to be a pirate, but only because there was no alternative. You can now use Steam, it's very effective, safe and pretty much rewarding. Piracy just damages everything, even if the people who made it weren't exactly angles...

Also it's 2011, viruses are weak.

@patryk30111 I used torrents for 4-5 years now, and I had to repair my PC for 2-3 times... I hope that speaks for itself. Call of Duty is nothing to be feared of, but if we prove that this game is worth buying, Activision will make more efforts into continuing the franchise. CCP seems to make an MMO, I hope it won't be bad, except the thing that I hate MMO's -_-

You have no one to blame but yourself for the torrent viruses. The rule is to be very careful.
And I doubt Activision will continue it. They killed off Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Spiderman, Tony Hawk, James Bond, Guitar Hero, and in my eyes Call of Duty should be dead too. The Warcraft series is pretty dead too, and Diablo seems sketchy.
No. A different studio would need to make a sequel. Chances are, they wouldn't base it off of The Masquerade

@patryk30111 Activision doesn't exactly *make* these games. They just publish them. But Troika brought it on themselves, they had to be more careful with the pre-production stage, and... that is the price for not managing it properly.

@MisterAAnderson I suppose you're right in a way. Troika tried to make a massive game in a short amount of time, and it just ended up being too much. Still, I just hate publishers, especially Activision. Wouldn't it have been better if Activision lost more money by giving them more time and then upon release it would have been a much better project and either way they'd make it back with sales? Assuming they finished it.

@patryk30111 And assuming it wouldn't be released on the same day as Half Life 2(don't get me wrong, I love it) but making them to compete is an unfair advantage for Valve. Sure publishers always behave in a very greedy manner, but wasn't it like that in all other industry's? Yes, it was, and I think that even if Troika ceased to exist, it would be reasonable to still buy the game, just to commemorate the 6'th generation. After all, 20 $ isn't too much at all...

@patryk30111 remember that from activisions point of view they had no idea if the game will sell, all they see is this idea that they have a budget set for it and a time limit which troika have to stick to, the more money it takes to make it the more sales it needs to make it a worthwhile investment. Publishers are unlikely to invest alot of money in new franchises because they simply might not be popular.

@patryk30111 guitar hero died because the cost of getting the rights to the songs is far too expensive to be able to make money back on the game, warcraft on the other hand, and you are sorely mistaken here, is far from dead, warcraft is one of the most lucrative videogame franchises in the world. What are you basing your opinions on? Diablo sketchy? What are you talking about, Diablo 3 is just around the corner and will sell millions of copies.

Guitar Hero died because they managed to release around TWENTY different games/expansions within three years. Everybody got bored. World Of Warcraft is one of the most lucrative video games ever, but what about WARCRAFT? The RTS series? After WoW dies, if it ever dies, there won't be any more for a long, long time, whether they bring it back to its original RTS format or keep the MMO format.

As for Diablo 3, yes it'll sell well. There's a lot of picky opinions however based on how it's straying farther and farther from Diablo 2 and looking more and more like a over-the-top WoW, minus the complete open world. That, plus the controversial Battle.net 2.0 DRM and this undetailed Auction House idea they have going makes it sketchy at this current moment. I'm guessing it'll still be fantastic.
Blizzard has kind of managed to be free of Activision, but its still there.

Bloodlines is so brilliant.
Game reminds me, L.A. Noir, Blade Runner (game) and Omikron Nomad Soul and sometimes Max Payne.
So that is reason why Bloodlines is one the best games ever made.

A lot of people nowadays are of the impression that vampires can't be used effectively in fantasy fiction, because their views are skewed by that paranormal romance crap, but this setting shows that you can use them without appealing to pre-teen girls.

I don't blame you - I'm a nerd myself and I obsess over games I like as well. But honestly; considering the combat system and the sneaking system in the game it does drag the game in the mud. A few more years in development and it could have been something really special. Also the last levels in the game are a total mess.

besides you have one with freaking vampires and the other one with a cyber dude, you cant really compare them, they felt completly different.
each game has its merits.

Best game ever, FACT, has the best atmosphere and most engaging storyline and most amazing soundtrack of any game ever! can you imagine if a game company like Bioware ( Mass Effect ) picked this title up and made a sequel of bloodlines ?? I would die happy if bioware picked this up, please Maker, let someone at bioware read this and put it in motion....thumbs up so it stays on top!!!! We may see a sequel in our lifetimes yet!

Such a sad shame that the studio is gone, this was one of the best pc games I've ever played. Sure it was a little glichy, but the fact that fans made patches after the studio was shutdown should tell you how amazing this game was.

When I bought this game I never imagined it would become my most favorite game of all time and I played through it at least 8 to 10 times and I still return to it regularly. It is a game that feels like home to me. And it is a game that deserves a modern successor. From the start I played it with the unofficial patch made by wesp, so I never ran in to the bugs others mentioned. This game's atmosphere is unique and I crave more of it.

If I do not remember incorrectly this computer game is the last product made in the old World of Darkness setting if you do not count some products for the Vampire the Masquerade card game. I love the old World of Darkness, I like the new setting to but I wish they had made more products for the old one.

This was a fantastic game, but releasing it was a major shortcut. Shipped with placeholder graphics, missing levels, tons of bugs, and the marketing seemed bent on getting lonely boys to want to play (something the game did little to cater to) The official patches didn't fix much, but some fan work can help. Would love to see a reputable company take an honest stab at a game like this... with all its faults and shortcuts... its still a very entertaining game to play.

@qwer58j Well you have Hellgate London, Jerico, The Fear series, the Silent Hill series, Condemned, Second Sight well just to mention a few. Not to mention that there are more World of Darkness computer games, another Vampire the Masquerade game named Redemption and two Hunter the Reckoning games. They are as far as I know also working on a MMORPG for a new version of World of Darkness, neither old or new, a completely original one. There are allot of supernatural themed computer games.

Hey, can anyone help me? I'm playing the game through again but now, everytime I reach V.V. for the first time and she starts talking to me, the game closes, and goes back to desktop... I used to be able to talk to her the first times I played, I can't imagine what may have changed since then. I've always had the first patch, and I'm not sure about the others.. :( Pleeease, help, I miss V.V. so much!

Can't offer you much help unfortunately. This game is known for bugs... as shitty as it may sound, you might want to consider pirating this game, I have a pirated copy that works better than my patched retail one... if that doesn't work, it's likely your pc that's at fault. Hope it works, this game is worth the effort.
