speaking from the knight nation, god bless the herd from the 70s and much respect to marshall for having the strength to bounce back from such a horrible tragedy. much respect for my school opponents last weekend.
soprisrb first they were mostly all kids.. except for the coaches and boosters and second.. what a callous comment.
God Bless the survivors... that would be the families, the university and the town..
November 14th is my birthday and I remember all too well the events of that day. I'm a Bama fan first.. but for the last 40 years I have followed Marshall as well... and am proud of the progress they have made...
On behalf of the entire Pirate Nation, I am so sorry for your loss; even though it's been 40 years. Young men shouldn't die while they're still young; especially in a plane crash.
My father and and my uncle went to marshall durring this time. My uncle as already in school there, and my dad was a freshmen a yr later,... this footage i apat of my family and i thank u for sharing it.
The plane was a charter whose pilots had never flown into our hilltop airport before. Visibility was bad and they came in too low, clipping trees on the hilltop before the runway and fell into the valley below. Our community was changed forever.
I was looking at the Marshall 1970 roster and it struck me how much smaller players were then compared to now. MU had no one over 250lbs. Now FB's are that size. Still these guys played hard and with skill. I don't know if I can believe in god when tragedies like this happen. On the same weekend 60k people were killed in Asian natural disaster. Too much sorrow, too much pain....
I read an old epitaph which read, " How wide the torrent rolls, That bears us to the tomb; Which ends our toils and sorrows here, And bears our spirits home."
I Had been wanting to see the movie since I heard that it had came out because I grew up in a small town in West Virginia about four hours away and I never knew that this had happened! But any ways I just got the movie last night at wll mart in the five dollar bin and I loved every second of it! Is there any way that I could get the 1971 game with Xavier?
My teacher's brother-in-law was number 88, RIP AL SAYLOR!!!...that event was soooo sad, it ruiined my day, and today's my parent's 16 or 15 anniversary
A bit of trivia: The kicker for ECU(1970) -his daughter went to Marshall (or goes to Marshall) on a (I think) softball scholarship. He had never told her about what happened(the crash) until she came in and told him she was thinking of going to Marshall.
Actualy when the team got on the plane the fild was not on it. Some one else had it to get it published. Well when the movie was being writen the guy saved it and never could make himself watch it. Sad storry and amazing/
Can anyone tell me when the phrase "We are Marshall" started being used? I was 14 yrs old then. I don't recall that phrase being used until years later. Very good movie I might add.
I read that another factor in the crash was that the airport had a Landing Tracking system (ILS, I think?) it wasn't using that night.

And she had a walk-off single to beat ECU her senior season in a game in Huntington. Her name is Gina Guzzo.
