Had to share the sounds of this on my fb wall because we had one come withing 25 yrds of our home last night in central Oklahoma! My 12 year old had never heard that scream before, for that matter neither had my 20 yr old who just saw the sillouette and tried to holler at it to scare it! LOL It's funny now, but it sure wasn't then! That thing turned toward him and screamed and he cut a path for the house! The 12 year old ran in scared to death! I won't be going out without the gun ne more!
Oops think I deleted my first comment okay anyways here goes again. And were you in an area where Pumas live ? It seem to me their habitat is being taken over. Are they supposed to up and die to make things easier for humans ?
@WyteOleander No we live on a rural paved county road. I agree that in the suburbs and the cities a lot of wildlife gets displaced due to growth in population. However, this thing has plenty of country side to roam on without coming THAT close to my home and my children. If I saw it out on a remote area, I wouldn't think a thing of it, except, "wow, look at how huge and beautiful that thing is!" But when it's close to my home and kids, it will get shot. Because they are DANGEROUS!!!!
I lived in the sierras in a rural area as well. Of course pumas come with those areas. Under no circumstances should that animal have been shot. The minute you saw it everyone should have quietly moved indoors
@MsRedOnTheHead Different things could have been going on. Do the homeowners feed the deer ? If so read "beast in the garden" The puma's go where their prey go this is about pumas in Colorado. Watch on here "mountain lion encounter" The woman was an idiot. Children sound like prey animals to them. Again get something to scare the hell out of them. They are dangerous and need to keep a healthy distance for our sakes and theirs. Ive seen them use rubber bullets so I'd check into those.
@MsRedOnTheHead I find it rather sad that some people accept that growth in our population is damaging the ecosystem and other species, yet make no effort to stop the problem....
@vgman94 let me guess, you are a part of the "new world order" which promotes euthanasia in order to control the population in order to preserve mother earth. I love how you judge me and my family without even knowing us. We NEVER litter, I took birth control and only had children that I could AFFORD to take care of without the governments help! We take care of the earth's resources that God so magnificently provided for our use and NEVER kill any animal that we are not going to eat!
@MsRedOnTheHead Oh, dear lord. A conspiracy theorist who thinks anyone who cares about modern problems is part of some world domination-obsessed cult. Yes, yes. Good you did some proper things. Question is after you could afford them, how many did you have? 2 or 3 are relatively fine. But was it 4, 5, 6? Where do we draw the lin on indulgence? Gluttony was once seen as a crime, now it's encouraged. God didn't provide us with the Earth for our use. Did you talk to God, saw an angel?
@vgman94 also we only shoot animals that we are not going to eat if they are posing a threat to our family or our animals. We all do need to be responsible with regard to being good stewards over what God has given to us to use. But I do not see the relevance to your comment on this story, other than an opportunity for a extremist "green" person to launch their talking point rants.
@MsRed (2) I understand your intentions and life style are quite kind compared to some other people, but I find it difficult to read that someone thinks the world they live in was made for them. That sounds like the worst case of Narcissism since that of Narcissius. I actually live with my fellow species, I don't think I'm above them or pretend this world was made for my species. The point of my comment is people should stop being lazy and start caring about serious world issues, that is all.
@vgman94 Well let me address your question of God giving the earth to man (Genesis 1:29-30) & (Genesis 9:1-3) there are 2 references for you. And not that it's any of your biz but only 2 children, though my husband came from a family with 6 bros & sis. His parents worked AS WE DO to take care of our own. We are NOT lazy as the Occupy whinebags are who act as if they are concerned about real issues but would rather whine than work and have an entitlement mentality. I pray u get revelation.
@MsRedOnTheHead I didn't call you lazy. My original point was that people in general are lazy. From what you explain, you sound like a decent person. I know the Bible verses, I just don't think a book is proof enough. But whatever. This won't go anywhere and I realize you're not the type of person I expected. My apologies and good day.
From what you say you showed the puma no respect. You were standing outside when you knew it was there ? Sounds like your daughter was the only smart one. And you dont have to shoot it. Get rubber bullets or something. They need to be afraid of us. Its safer for them and safer for us.
Wow never saw a mountain lion back there in Colorado, where in Colorado exactly have you been shooting these stunning photos? I sure would want to know. xoxo
in all honestly...when you hear that scream in real life, its sort of like a baby crying, but it still makes you shit your pants just a little and you never forget it
I would DELIBERATELY go out at night if I thought I might glimpse one of these magnificent cats or hear their beautiful call. I just wish they'd go vegan.
WOW, simply amazing creatures. You have the best advice, JPMatheu - RESPECT: Know what you're up against and keep your distance, not do-something-stupid, get-yourself-attacked and then expect the authorities to kill the animal :(
It's a shame that such AMAZING creatures sometimes have to suffer due to the mistakes of STUPID humans. Kill the human ffs, not the cougar who is just being a cougar. I'd say this even if it were my own kid/brother/sister/mother/boyfriend/dad that was attacked.
God I heard one of these animals when I was younger talking about the hair standing on your neck and arm. Trust me it sounds like a dangum woman getting stabbed to death over and over repeatably
@caverdaveeee Well at least that's not near my location. I'm sure there are lions hereabouts somewhere, i just choose to pretend they don't exist so I'm not even more afraid of going to my car after dark.
I found this video after hearing that sound in my yard! I'd heard that mountain lions do scream, so I googled 'what does a mountain lion sound like'. I'd crept quietly out my front door to listen closer, in case it was a human screaming OWE!! Owe!! OWE!!. Pretty sure it wasn't human when my quiet creeping made the noise stop immediately- she heard me! Thanks for clarifying
Was fly fishing a half hour before sun-up one morning and that screaming started right behind me,needless to say I was out to my shoulders in the river in no time, looking back expecting big-foot to come outta the bushes...It is REALLY loud when you experience it live...lol

I heard a sound that was nearly identical to this in southern Missouri many years ago. It was a very scary sound, and I had no idea what was at the time. Is it possible a female mountain lion wandered into southern Missouri in the late 90s? There have definitely been confirmed sightings of males in Missouri, but I'm not so sure about a female. I've listened to bobcat calls as well (after viewing this video), and it didn't sound like that.
That noise turned the local deer hunters into cougar hunters, since after it made that cry there were no deer in the area to be hunted, and the hunters were mad at the cougar for scaring away all the deer.
I live in cabin in Sierra foothills, my bedroom is a yurt attached to cabin - I hear the mountain lions every night. Two of them for sure. They communicate with distance between them. Used to be seasonal, now it's most of the year. It walked right past my yurt the other night making it's unmistakable sound. Very powerful.
i live in the country, i have woken up 2 times to that EXACT SAME scream. We heard that and in the morning found a destroyed dear in my yard, then my dog started barking one day, and i saw it getting chased by 2 cougars into my lawn, i got the ak47 went up to the den and laid 2 banana clip (40) rounds of armor piercing bullets into its den. yeah didnt have to worry about it anymore, the den was 140 yards from my back yard. gotta do what you gotta do
@SoldierSide77 Yes, my trailcam took a photo of the lion lying down, and then my friend set off the camera when he was setting down his walking stickwhen we went to check the camera. Since the camera was in a fixed position it was easy to cut and paste the lion outline into the photo with my friend, and blur the edges, took me a bit over an hour to do and it looks like he is scratching the cat's ear, I just did this photo for fun.
@caverdaveeee your friend is ugly. and jesus man! i love the old wait till their almost sitting down then quickly slip a brand new freshly sharpened number two pencil, eraser end down pointy point up, right in their chair, but ONE FREAKIN TIME IS ENOUGH!!! this would almost be abuse except its too hilarious, i never thought to keep jabbing the pencil in their sore spot like that. great freakin idea !
@albee351 It might a horse, a dog, something with a skinny head. I'd have to say it was a horse based on the side of the head so the body might have to be around 4-5 ft. long. Probably a horse.
@albee351 A deer that was killed by the mother lion, and the base of an antler is the bright round spot in the photo, it appears like an eye but is just the bony area from which the antlers grow.
that doesn't look like a fake pic at the end you're both behind brush and have the exact same lighting.....why would you fake it anyway? I think you killed it.
I....Hate....The world...Im never going to go outside into thw woods alone...ill do it with a machine gun and a buddy who has light machine gun.Even so ill still flee like im being chased by a T-rex.
If you move into their country then the best advice I can give is do not go out at night. I have woken up to a few deer carcasses on my front lawn or half stowed away in my barn. RESPECT.
I was Camping up on Mt.Charleston (elevation:8500ft) right out side Las Vegas at the old ski lift site this last summer and heard this sound! went from my tent to sleeping in my truck. was told by the ranger up there it was one of 3 lower elevation Mountain Lions that go throw the area every so often.
I can make a similar sound to that (very rough on the vocal cords though). Me and some guys were messing around cleaning up after a fire (forest service) when I asked if they wanted to hear my cougar scream. They said sure and I let out a big one!
Scared a veteran forest service person so bad they almost had to change their underwear. Apparently I did a good job.
Sheesh, and we thought alley cats on the fence were loud and annoying. Adorable cubs, though. Loved the image of the cub sniffing at the kill. He's just so cute with all those spots!
@trisshaanne The last photo is fake, the lion wsa not killed, and the photos was made on my computer using a photo of a lion and a photo of my friend.
wow cool. I live on vancouver island B.C where we have the highest density of the big cats in the world. We also have the most fatalities too. Cool pictures I would love to see more.
my cameras havent picked up anything other than deer this year on the only water source in 5 miles? woulda thought there would have been a coyote or bobcat atleast but just deer. cool!
for those of you saying they are extinct and that they are not sighted much, come to the Black Hills, we have so many, there is now a mt. lion hunting season
@jm7315 They are extremely common here in California too, spotted all the time and just about everywhere from up north in the Sierra to the central coast down to where i'm at in the mountains of the Sonoran Desert, thanks to the ban of hunting mountain lion in the state established in 1972.
hey listen up yall read this is about it well sometime in june or july im going nto west virgina in canan vally im staying up there for 3 or 4 or 5 days and i herad theres alot up there
the government in ONtario says they dont exist in the wild since the 19th century - but sightings keep happening, and they can't all be escaped pets. A Ranger in Gatineau Park (by Ottawa in Ontario) - confirmed a sighting - the Ontario government issued an official warning which you can see online. I think it's amazing they are making a comeback, and they are in the woods somewhere - but if I heard that out in the woods that would be soo freaky. cool vid - thx for posting
I live in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. about 1.5 hours north west of Buffalo NY. We have friends who have a farm about 20 minutes away in the country with lots of dense brush and LOTS of deer. This woman knows wildlife - she told me a few years back.. the dogs started barking like crazy. She turned on the light and looked out the window near the horse stable, and saw a big deer coloured cat with a 3 foot long tail walk by the window. I fully believe her, too. She's knowledgable and very credible.
ya well i also happen to be an outdoorsman myself. i spend an average of 200 days a year in the field tracking wildlife doing surveys and assesments. remove your comments and run away.
wayoftheblade is right - i dunno who was giving his answer thumbs down. mountain lion, puma, cougar, catamount, florida panther, whatever local nickname you wanna use, it's the same animal.
me and my dad were cuttin wood at our family ranch one time and came around the corner on the road a there was a mountain in the road.... we tried to kill it because it had been killing the sheep but it got away.
Needless to say when I was hiking (alone, separated from my roommate) down Mt. Humphrey's north of Flagstaff and heard a similar sound, I nearly shat myself.

Crossss8 7 months ago

Just a shot in the dark here, but was the last photo a fake? Made on your computer using a photo of a lion and your friend? o.O
SoldierSide77 10 months ago 3
@SoldierSide77 Yes, my trailcam took a photo of the lion lying down, and then my friend set off the camera when he was setting down his walking stickwhen we went to check the camera. Since the camera was in a fixed position it was easy to cut and paste the lion outline into the photo with my friend, and blur the edges, took me a bit over an hour to do and it looks like he is scratching the cat's ear, I just did this photo for fun.
caverdaveeee 10 months ago 18
@caverdaveeee your friend is ugly. and jesus man! i love the old wait till their almost sitting down then quickly slip a brand new freshly sharpened number two pencil, eraser end down pointy point up, right in their chair, but ONE FREAKIN TIME IS ENOUGH!!! this would almost be abuse except its too hilarious, i never thought to keep jabbing the pencil in their sore spot like that. great freakin idea !

what is the cub supposed to be eating at :23?
albee351 10 months ago
@albee351 It might a horse, a dog, something with a skinny head. I'd have to say it was a horse based on the side of the head so the body might have to be around 4-5 ft. long. Probably a horse.
ilovegames4you 10 months ago
@albee351 A deer that was killed by the mother lion, and the base of an antler is the bright round spot in the photo, it appears like an eye but is just the bony area from which the antlers grow.
caverdaveeee 10 months ago
@caverdaveeee It's a good thing too, if that WAS the eye, I'd be scared shitless as to what that animal really is!

ChileanCossack83 1 year ago
I can make a similar sound to that (very rough on the vocal cords though). Me and some guys were messing around cleaning up after a fire (forest service) when I asked if they wanted to hear my cougar scream. They said sure and I let out a big one!
Scared a veteran forest service person so bad they almost had to change their underwear. Apparently I did a good job.

@jm7315 They are extremely common here in California too, spotted all the time and just about everywhere from up north in the Sierra to the central coast down to where i'm at in the mountains of the Sonoran Desert, thanks to the ban of hunting mountain lion in the state established in 1972.

the government in ONtario says they dont exist in the wild since the 19th century - but sightings keep happening, and they can't all be escaped pets.
