  • Josh Hamilton drinks dude.

  • Some things i agree on and others not so much. In my opinion, not everyones swing will be the same. So dont tell me that if i dont seing a certain way i wont hit good. Its bullshit. I do more of a level golf swing motion, i crush pretty much everything. Reason why, i play the ball out in front of me, i just angle the bat to the ball, and boom. My point, some people have their own way of doing things.

  • he has no idea what he is talking about..you do not drop your hands depending on location...all you will do is pop up or miss

  • you do NOT want to come out..your hitting off your front side losing all your power..hes coming up and out of his legs..all power will be gone. also you do not want an upper cut ...you want to stay level through the zone.. you generate power from keeping your hands inside and exploding through and getting power from you hips

  • hey dumb dumb flipping your hands doesnt create power

its your hips hands cant give anything.BTW you dont use your left hand in any part of a swing

  • you guys should study baseball before you critique.. This guy obviously has done some research

  • This coach says, "I think" a lot! That's exactly your problem... "You think", but you really don't!

  • This coach is horrible... Keep him away from young baseball players! He should be fired!

  • completly wrong you dont even go up on your back toes it puts to much pressure on your front foot and can cause you to loose balance and/or slide forward some and he is batting a bunt not a hit he isnt flicking any part of his wrist at all so he isnt pushing the enjoy that his body is building out through the bat

  • Terrible load

  • Hopeless21 agreed

  • this is dumb. you think hanley ramirez is thinking about making contact or is he thinking i want to destroy this baseball. young kids need to learn to swing with real intent and learn how to hit later. real bat speed comes from practicing swinging as hard as you can extremely often and eventually controlling it with strength and balance

  • Phillies could have used this video for game 5

  • you suck!

  • To sum up what hes sayin: Make contact My way:Practice and find your way that makes you feel comfortable, with making contact. Even the Pros started off as rookies :D

  • In baseball you don't think you have fun. They didn't make baseball to study or take so serious. This video is a waste of time. Its easy to say don't try to hit homeruns, and try to kill the ball. Just hit it! I'm 11 years old my dad tells me "don't let anymore tell you how to play ball" I play softball and baseball Elizabeth Rappeport Imma alstar

  • Mark Mclemore was my hitting instructor and it was somewhat different on the weight transfer part, however everyone does a different thing

  • Man this dude will put you to sleep. The more compact the swing the better...weight shift and hands flying through the swing are rather elementary but he makes it sound like something from the space program.

  • I certainly agree with the swing arc ... think of McGriff, Griffey Jr., how they finish nice and high like that ... has to be some kind of arc going on there to finish that high. I think the big thing here that's correct is simply the use of leverage ... if you push a bat against a wall the "impact" position is easily found as the position where you can get the most leverage against the wall. Everyone looks a little different, but everyone with effortless power knows how to use leverage.

  • Swing in a upward motion. Hinge on the front leg......... Throw this kid a breaking ball and he will be out front every time. This dude is close but this is not how you hit. Watch Albert Pujols hit and you'll realize that this dude is wrong. A Swing Arch!..... HAHAHHA wow this dude it ridiculous. Have a swing arch if you want too lead your team in strikeouts. Everyone know backspin on a ball will cause lift and further distance. Don't learn from this guy!

  • @86GrayC

Loading into a firm front foot is the objective of this lesson. Watch Pujols again and again and thats what he does. His back foot is barely touching at contact - so he can rotate his base for power. The kid above is fine with offspeed if his hands and hips stay back and closed. Recognize the good instruction here and don't get carried away with a swing arc - there are many excellent ways to teach hitting.

There isn't one way to hit because every athlete is different.

  • @TheFarley3

Just because a player's back foot isn't touching the ground when they make contact doesn't mean that hitter is consciously thinking:

"Okay I'm about to make contact now. I need to raise my back foot off the ground and then rotate."

The same thing goes with all the other mechanics in baseball. That's why virtually every average player that practices mechanics sees little, if any, long term improvement.

  • lol nice vid :P

  • great tutorial

    can someone help?

I'm always hitting ground balls and I'm 14 year old and my height is 4'10 please

  • @The98omar midget im 11 and im 5'3

  • @mictech1000 f*** u

  • @The98omar JK man have a nice day

  • @The98omar it's tricky for anyone to help without seeing you swing. Probably don't try to swing too much up into the ball in an attempt to lift it into the air ... as a result you may just be hitting the top of the ball. I think an OK approach is to try to swing through the bottom half of the ball with maybe just a little bit of up swing (like maybe send the momentum to a spot about 5ft above the shortstop's head, more of an upswing is prob too much)

  • its kind of hard to give "proper" hitting techniques as everyone has their own motion. Its kind of like boxing..Mike Tyson was totally different from everyone else..Had his own style..BUT it worked. HOWEVER it is good learn a good starting point..jmho.

  • @mikieson yup. lots of good technique here... but every athlete is different.

  • Ted Williams..quite possibly the greatest hitters of all time called the baseball swing a hard push at the ball.....

  • team5systems my msn in profile! How to Hit a Baseball

  • you forgot one key point: to pivot your foot after you load, but before you swing

  • his front arm is to far from his body, your right staying back is wrong to say and do but you got to keep your weight centered he is going forward on his swing he will never hit a good changeup or curve stay center and let the ball get deep and use your hips compare his swing to pujols you will his front arm is closer to his body this is a weak wing

  • @drking234 Maybe ur only seing one pic of Albert. I have found a picture where his arm is further out than usual. Its ok if ur arm gets out a little bit. He also couldve been swinging at an offspeed. It all depends on the pitch

  • @drking234 i agree with your other point buts is it impossible to swing without a weight shift forward naturally your weight will go forward with your swing and if you fight this your power will goo wayyy down

  • the ball is suppoused to pass your front foot

  • this is the worst hitting video i have ever seen...doesnt seem like this guy has a clue what he's talking about and is just spitting out false information. learn about baseball then post videos...idiot. hitting off your front leg makes you so vulnerable to a number of things

  • Trying to hit off the front foot like this you will always be a target for soft and away. Staying back ie. keeping most of your load/weight on the back leg as you pivot that back foot along with the hips, will give you more opportunity to get to a variety of pitches with more power.

  • @harryfeld1 Doesn't sound like you've ever watched hitters (professional, collegiate) actually hit. The hitting instruction above is not what he believes to be correct, it is what actual hitters do to be successful. Instead of dogma, he uses observation. Watch any major leaguer in slow motion, from Derek Jeter to Manny Ramirez (two very different hitters) and you will recognize that what this guy is saying and what they are doing is identical.

  • @harryfeld1 Ur wrong bud. That is what u dont want to do. that will cause less power because u wont be able to get ur hips through as well. Even though there is many different type of hitting style i can promise u this one is the most succesfull. You wont get very far hitting off ur back foot

  • Best video on youtube.....Thanks a ton.
