  • Finished indeed.

  • This is quite pup-a-riffic.

  • i use to have this on vhs

  • this is my childhood...i remeber this show as a kid!! omfg

  • Sherlock Hound Y U NO FIND CAT?

  • To explain - this episode was the first shown in English on HBO many years ago ...

And Moriarty is sadly the villain people know best —

  • what's the profit of making counterfeit coins?

  • I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for you meddling hound and your pesky doctor friend too!

  • Thumbs up if you've seen Detective Conan / Case Closed! :)

  • haha 6:45 Space Invaders noise.

  • I liked this anime but I got really tired that Professor Moriarty was the bad guy in EVERY SINGLE STORY! Of course, there is that one episode with a mad twin brother, I think. Oh, well.

  • Comment removed

  • why is this ep.1? this dose not look like ep 1 ep 1 is where Hound first meets Watson this is all miss up

  • @FanGirlOfPiccolo I think that's Episode 12. The Episode order is messed up

  • of the Baskervilles! HA!

  • 19:19 Any werider I and I will stop watching this.... 8[

  • this is awesome.

  • Rewatching the entire series at 5am~♥

  • Furry steampunk Sherlock. Thanks Miyazaki.

  • lol the bad doggy has kaito kids outfit xD or the other way around sorry detective conan reference ^^; tis my favorite anime so..

  • When I was young I loved it. And I had a bet with my friend that I still like it. She owes me. XD

  • love this series, proof most of miyazaki's work is great

did this series ever get a DVD release in the U.S. ?

  • @animehunter23 yes look up on wikipedia this has been on dvd since 2002 i think

  • @redwallfan123 ya I went on wikipedia to find the proper episode order and discovered that, just can't seem to find it anywhere, have not checked amazon and ebay though

  • A Miller Lite commercial played before the episode, then I was given a warning about "mild drug use" in this episode. Funny that they don't warn you about the alcohol commercial beforehand. Miller Lite's bitch alcohol, anyways, give me heavy beer over that horse urine any day.

Anyways, this series is awesome; I'm so glad it's available for free viewing on Youtube.

  • This was my favorite show when I was like 5 or 6.....Good times.....

  • @Shackdaddy1337 thumbs up :)

  • the English version of Sherlock Hound is so confusing at times. I prefer the Japanese, though i have to admit that the English Moriarty is pretty cute.

  • i thought the first episode is when they meet a girl name polly...and then when they meet Dr.moriarity

  • @OniAndKyri12 There wasn't much of a first episode than one where Hound meets Watson on a ship I think.

  • Is this really episode 1?

  • @ShannonTheTimelord No, technically the first shows up as Episode 11 on here. The appearance on Youtube and the original appearance have a different episode order, for some reason.

  • This is an interesting series, though the accents aren't exactly the british feel but it's actually pretty good

  • I thought the English had the driver's seat on the right side...not the left.

  • @LittleSelfia the real enlgish people themselves from Britain yeah lol

  • 6:44

    Space Invaders!

  • 21 People love cat's.

  • @nourayusufahmed i love cats and dogs =3 lol, I had a black lab... he died of old age like last year D: we have 2 cats now tho

  • @FunkyRoad96 Sorry about your dog. One of my cats died of a natural cause I 'm not a bad cat owner they just like cars. I'm actually a cat person. But I have a cat that acts like a dog and I feel sorry for her cause I think I feed her to much.

  • Can somebody tell me why the DVD's are extremely expensive for this series? I'm no anime expert so I really don't know why.

  • @1AlanC My guess would be that the print run on the DVD apparently ended in 2002, and being a relatively niche anime said run was probably pretty small. So now you have Miyazaki completists, curious Sherlockians and plain old fans of the show all competing for this small supply of DVDs in stock.

  • @1AlanC

Because they are out of print (Geneon/Pioneer who distribute these DVD'S), and since these dvds came out nearly 10 years ago, they become harder to find. I know I tried to find them but they are expensive. Maybe someday a company will distribute this series along with Master Keaton and Cardcaptors Sakura on DVD.

  • I love this series!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found two VHS episodes in the cheepo bin at the dollar store back in the day as a kid, and watched them till they didn't run anymore!!!!

Im so stokde to actually get to see more of them now!

  • I first saw this series in 1983 on HBO and, as an animation expert, it's still in my humble opinion, the best thing Miyazaki ever did.

The title to the original series was simply "Detective Holmes".

  • Also, is it just me, or is this series really fun? The voice acting is surprisingly good, the animation and design is fantastic, Sherlock is cool as hell, and it's totally adorable.

  • Who cares how accurate it is? People can interpret Sherlock however they like.

  • it may just be my screen, but why is Moriaty purple?

  • @voidem13 because he's evil.

  • deviously devious XD

  • Professor Moriarty seems more childish and active then in the final problem. And since when did Holmes actual noticed a women besides Irene Adler. Cute series either way.

  • English language voice actors:

    Famous Detective Holmes/Todd: Larry Moss

Dr. Watson/Inspector Lestrade/Smiley: Lewis Arquette (father of David, Rosanna, Patricia, and Alexis Arquette and the brother of Charley Weaver (Cliff Arquette) of 60s and 70s "Hollywood Squares" fame)

Mrs. Hudson: Pat Parris (Pammy Panda on "Shirt Tales")

Professor Moriarty: Hamilton Camp (Greedy and Harmony Smurf's voice)

  • @artytoons He also played GizmoDuck

  • ....the original Sherlock was a cocaine addict....great souce for a kids show. I should know, I loved it! :P

  • Did this run on HBO in the USA years ago? This looks so familiar - if it did run on HBO, I think I actually watched this!

  • For a real, true to the stories Watson, see the new BBC series Sherlock. I will admit this is cute, even if the character accuracy (for both Watson AND Holmes) is a pure fail.

  • hehe 6:44 makes galaga sounds if you hear it closely l3

  • omg my bro got me into this grrr

  • lmao 11:40 - 11:45 hehe danger in the chair :P funny stuff

  • 21 people have no soul

  • If it's by Miyazaki, it's most likely going to be good...

  • Did they just ruck down that door?

  • "elementary, my dear Watson" Cringe!!! Sherlock never says that, despite everyone's belief

  • The advertisements are really weird. First there's Sherlock talking with a little girl, when suddenly, "Meth took away my life."

  • loved this show when I was little

  • I love you for posting these! I've been looking for these forever. The image of that counterfeiting machine stamping coins has been with me my whole life! Yay! Next!

  • i lov shows like this lol lol lol <3<3<3

  • When did this come out? i have not watched this in years and i have a video from way back when i was a little ki...oh please tell me about this.

  • Hey neat, this came out the same year and month I was born. Cute anime by Miyazaki. Love his work.

  • It's a bit like a spin off the Sherlock Holmes case "The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb." :3

This looks like a really fun series.

  • Amazing!!!

  • I'm deciding to rewatch this again. SO GOOD!!!!

  • mild drug use?

  • @TheMoonsNecklace He was never actually a dog, either. XD

  • Ok, I am not saying anything against this, This is an absolutly adorable series from what I am watching..but can I just say that if you like this you should DEFINETLY check out Disney's Great Mouse Detective? It's like this, but theres a movie and..Oh man is it good...VERY underapprciated...I think you will enjoy it if you like Sherlock hound, :D

  • i just LOVE Hounds scruffy hair. it makes me wanna reach up and ruffle his head!! X3 this is such a cute episode! i'd rather watch this than the crap today. my mom made me watch Barney and that, never cartoons. so, even if this was when in the 90's(i'm 17), she probably wouldn't allow it. i'm gonna let my little sister watch this before she gets sucked into other useless tv shows.

  • is it just me,or was that a steam powerd coin stamping machin!

but wy the preshure guage say duty free

  • "Elementary, my dear Watson"

sherlock never actually said that o.O

  • @TheMoonsNecklace yes he did that was his quote all the time oO what are u on :P jk

  • @TheMoonsNecklace He was also never a dog in a steampunk world. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief here.

  • @TheMoonsNecklace Sherlock never existed you can do what you want with a fictional character.

  • @Xin1994 As long as you have the copyright or whatever they call it to do something major like a real tv series. otherwise you would have to put somewhere that its a fanmade thing and you don't have rights to him other than that you are technically right.

  • @Dragonfate88 Well that's just common knowledge.

    I thought :l

  • Or I guess it's the first season it has over 15 episodes anyway.

  • @Kennichu Not really, the entire show is 26 episodes long and only this many are put up here.

  • I love this it's my favorite Anime Cartoon because of my love that I have for Sherlock Holmes and Basil of Bakerstreet. I am also 24 years old. I did not grow up watching this show but I heard of it in the year of 2001 and I purchased the complete first season of it on dvd. Is their a season 2 because I really enjoyed it so much that I kinda want more.

I would say that I am a true fan.

  • @Kennichu *highfives*

Basil of bakerstreet for the win!!! *huggs* Am I right? Was Basil not WAY underapprciated?!?

  • @celticgurl93 I agree so much girl The Bas is the greatest I've had so so many dreams with him in it most where I was put in Olivias place with certain differences. I love thoughs dreams so much.

  • "Elementary, my dear Watson."

    I love that line

  • Cant believe how far Miyazaki went, I mean that in a good way.

  • I remember watching this when i was to young to go to school! And i'm turning 22 soon! I had no idea that hayoa miazaki directed this! *shock*

  • lol fun stuff, didn't know Miyazaki did this but it definitely shows

  • This was my first time seeing this and it was great :D.

  • omg i havent seen this in ages! i loved this show when i was little.i always used to rent the movie from the library.

  • I love this show.

  • Omg! I love this cartoon...I'm 24 and watching it...hahaha..brings back old memories!

  • God I feel so old watching this. I haven't seen this show since I was 4 or 6, the show hasn't aged a bit still have fun watching it.

  • I found this show from a link in the Zorori Project boards. ^_^ I actually enjoy watching it...I love old cartoon shows!

  • I could pretty much watch any of Miyazaki anime all the time. Can't wait to see his latest work Ponyo! :)

  • 0:37 -- Hayao Miyazaki is listed as a Chief Director!

  • Thanks TMS!

    This is fantastic

  • Is it just me or does the little girl, Martha, look like Mei from Totoro?

  • @Iishieboo I totally see the resemblance!

  • This is probably my favorite episode I've seen so far. =)

Is it just me, or is Todd a lot scarier in this one then he is in the other episodes of the show? O_o

  • I LOVE HAMILTON CAMP! he's such a magnificent voice actor.

  • Dang, outstanding animation. Especially for a series of its age. This is why I'll always prefer traditional animation over CGI.

  • The voices are so perfect!

  • the furry lad im liking this show already

  • What kind of dog is Sherlock Hound i forgot please help

  • He looks like a fox to me, and Watson looks like some sort of terrier :3

  • I miss this show really!

  • Is this really the first episode? Because one I watched was different from this one. It was when Holmes and watson first met ._.

  • wow, I haven't seen this show since I was like, 6. I had the tapes, and would watch them over and over again. Thanks for bringing back great memories! ^_^

  • is this lupin for furrys?

  • I love how Hound's lips don't always move when he talks, and instead his pipe just wiggles. XD

  • Old Cartoons are WAY better!!!!!!!

  • Any chance for an English Re-Release?

  • I HATE ADVERTISEMENTS! But this show rocks!

  • Old cartoons are way better then the shit they put on TV these days

  • Man! Old U.S cartoon have way more art than modern cartoon.

  • Wow, here I am finding myself rewatching episode one again (Obsessive much).Well anyway this show is so addictive for a strange reason, surely Hayao Miyazaki is great for making this series!

Oh and I love the epic pose Smiley makes at 6:42 he should be a fashion icon!

  • Well, European TV producers outsourced TV animation production Japan back in 70's.

  • "deviously devious MWAHAHAHAHA" lawl

  • I love hayao miasaki! He helped with most of the pokemon films

  • excellent!

  • I've actually never seen this before, and I have to tell you, I rather enjoyed it, even though I'm 21. It's hard to find shows like this these days. All there is is Spongebob and all of those stupid, brainless, plotless kid shows. This rocks so far!

  • Good for you. This show was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who won Oscar for his animated movie "Spirited Away" few years ago.

  • Yeah! I heard he's got a new movie coming out soon. :D JOY!

  • *sighs happily*

  • he has no tail?

  • o wow... this is the first time seeing it, and I love it. it easily tops anything the cartoons of today tries. and there's guns shooting bullets! not futuristic energy weapons and bs. Very good! 5/5

  • Totally ! Spongebob is all, AHAHAHA!HAHAHAH! And others are so random, but this is perfect!

  • i saw this when i was little then it got canceled.

    i was like 5

  • If you like this show, you might be a furry. Being a furry means you're a fan of animals with human aspects. These particular characters are anthropomorphic. There are many different kinds of furries, and the term itself has no more sexual connection than liking anime/cartoons/comics does

  • FURRY FTW

  • not everyone who likes this show is a "furry" im not and i like this show ^.^

  • you're absolutely right, so I'm glad my choice of words was "might be a furry".

  • Indeed, go furries! :3

  • this is so awesome.

i used to watch this all the time...wait, i have the videos! haha

but why did they take out the vocals in the opening?

  • I used to watch this ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. Wow this brings back memories.

  • Me too! :D

I used to own the little movies, I think I still have them somewhere

  • Geez this makes me feel soo nastalgic.

  • lack of what? i can't tell the difference

  • One of the best closing themes I've heard!

  • Wow...blast from the past. Makes me wanna watch Darkwing Duck actually...

  • reminds ME of Doctor Who, more. you used to watch this when you were little?

  • Holy crap man, That was one of the best shows from my childhood!

  • this is another take off the same story used in the great mouse detective. but it's still all sherlock holmes.

does this series have any connection to studio ghibli

  • well in the credits one of the chief directors was Hayao Miyazaki

    so piece it together there

  • @VivaAlecto He only worked on 6 episodes though.

  • The animation style is simmular to studio ghibli.

But, this is probably a very old cartoon series so, It came before The Great Mouse Detective.

  • I believe this series is the same age as me.... 24... give or take a few years.

  • well it was made by Miyazaki so.....

  • it was directed by Hayao Mizayaki. Yeah, it's a product from studio Ghibli :)

  • WOw this sure bring back memory, i has been 10 years since i watched. Still good throght

  • So kid friendly.

  • The show seems a bit corny in places, but overall it's pretty harmless. Good for kids.

  • don't forget the kids in america dying as well. but then who gives a damn about them right?

  • Comment removed

  • wow, this came out a long time ago and still has it's charm.

  • this show used to rule and it still does.

  • o: I LOVE Sherlock Holmes, and this show is just adorable, haha. ^^ I've never even heard of it before. o:

  • 19:20

    That's a scary fucking face.

  • arrrgg the ads are hella annoying >_>

  • OMG!! i can't believe someone had but this series on youtube. i haven't seen this show in years, and it's still one of my favorites, too!! X3

  • had no idea Hayao Miyazaki had a series woot woot:P

  • lol go to 6:49
