  • i dont really get what the cars have to do with it? does anyone know?

  • John Mellion= Australian Treasure, brilliant actor sadly missed!

  • Obviously the smartest thing to do if a car laden with spikes all around is charging towards you is to just stand there and leap onto it :-p

  • So r the cars possessed or is their maniacs driving them

  • @thuganomics84 ... it's a satire about a war between generational cults. The young are maniacal and terrorise the old of the town in modified cars while the old are conducting horrific experiments on the young usually through lobotomies. But both extremes are too self destructive to survive which ends in ultimate madness and bloodshed. An interesting movie of the day from the director who went on to do other interesting stuff such as The Last Wave, Witness, Fearless and The Truman Show.

  • @thuganomics84 Dear thug., Neither it is the same as wanting to return to the mother's womb and to scoop out the contents, siblings, destroying them. . Much like that; metaphorical. . . Cheers. from, del-boy. . p.s. are you aware of your improper syntact and spelling errors?
  • @HhappyBirthday Dear Derek. Thank u for pointing out my spelling and literate errors. I am very stupid and will punish myself, for this travesty. Thanks for clearing that up.

    Yours Sincerely

    Mr Anomics

  • @thuganomics84 Dear Mr.Andronicus, (thug), Thanks for your message. . Were you able to reflect on the suggestion that the cars and their movements are metaphorical and allegorical-representative in the movie? . You might like "The Boys" (1998) ... with Toni Collette. see video trailer, below this private message. , . Cheers. from, del-boy.
  • For all you Matrix fans that's the Train Driver @2.14. Bruce Spence from Matrix Revolutions and the Gyro captain from the Mad Max movies... also Mr Wall from Dark City.

  • @dcanmore I also see John Meillon from the Crocodile Dundee movies in here as The Mayor

  • @bored1ca ... yep that's him, John Mellion = Aussie Legend

  • Comment removed

  • reminds me of death race 2000 from 1975

  • @only257 DEATH RACE REMINDS ME OF MAD MAX SERIES AND SO DOES THE MANY OTHER AMERICAN MOVIES THAT COPIED THE MAD MAX THEME :-)

  • @MrSelector1 that's true

  • im downloading this movie now. im a sucker for bad/awful movies xD

  • 2:33-3:00 That guy's stupid ass speach lead him to their demise!

  • what was the name of that movie where the cars are alive and trap people and theres like an army car? and trucks?

  • @John2137 Maximum Overdrive!

  • @John2137 Maximum Overdrive, based on Steven King's short story Trucks.

  • there is a second one '' the cars that ate the cars that ate paris''

  • I love how the chant features every australian word you can think off...

  • Looks like herbie's gone mad

  • Does anyone know what the musical score is at the end of the film? There's no mention of it in the credits.

  • @pharronida unfortunately no... but i do know that lyndon teracini wrote an opera based on this film. never seen it, so can't vouch for it's quality. the mind veritably boggles...!

  • John Mellion was a standout. He had that everyman character of a latterday Jimmy Stewart, not such a great dramatic range but when the role was right for him, he just lifted the movie to another level.

  • I saw this film on channel 4 i think when it first started (CH4 that is) it has a profound effect on me i can tell you

  • I remember walking past one of the old film houses in Toronto on Young Street. In those days they would blast the soundtrack from the trailer onto the street. I remember being absolutely terrifed as a child. How weird about the Dead Poet's Society!

  • Yes a brilliant piece of work. I saw this in 1976 and I have seen it many times since. It's about time I watched Picnic again. Weir is a genius. You know he directed Dead poet' society?

  • @zapkvr yes he did, he also directed Witness, The Truman Show and Master and Commander: Far Side of the World

  • @dom318 Yes I knew he directed both of those. They were both entirely forgettable.

  • Your uncle? Cool! Great Movie! I am à Fan of this for man Years, also The Earl Works of Jane campion

  • my Uncle was the Priest in this :)

  • @TW458 He got one of the best lines, at the funeral... 'Oh gosh, lord... sometimes you work in ways that are totally incomprehensible'. He's brilliant. This is my favourite ever film.

  • Peter Weir Has many sides, would you belive that this is the same director who directed Picnic at hanging rock? Love them both!

  • Would you believe that the cars themselves wound up at Cannes Film Festival?

  • strange but pretty good

  • Christine is in this flick!! The guy that says, "This one is mine" was in "The Road Warrior".

  • lol, did he say "orangutan" in that chant!!!

I've never come across one of those in the bush lol

  • Yup! he said it! "orangutan" it is!

  • They ran on blood.

  • what's the French song at the end of the film??

  • This film is amazing.

  • that aint no herbie O.O;

  • This film seems very strange..

  • I can't beleive this is made by the same guy that directed Dead Poets Society.

  • weird crazy shit

  • Spikey Car!

  • God bless Peter Weir. That man is a genius.

  • What a great trailer, especially the school chant over all the carnage at the end.

  • I don't know if the rest of the film can live up to that chant.

  • Wow, the future of that town looks very bright...
