  • Can someone please tell me what is the name of the instrument playing at the very beginning? Thank you :)

  • @TheAsztronauta

I think you mean the kalimba, or finger piano. It's an African instrument - you can pick one up inexpensively at any good drum shop.

  • If only more people listened to this music...They're missing out on so much. All wrapped up in their metal and rap and techno. Meaningless. All meaningless.

  • @GoddessOfThree Well, all we can do is spread the word about this great music, and those who appreciate it and embrace it will follow.

  • Where can I get a download of this song?

  • This is how I feel. A part of nature. And joy when I get that feeling. Dancing in the wind.

  • Absolutely beautiful! Blessed Be!

  • From an American Witch I understand the meaning of this song and it is BEAUTIFUL! Blessed be my sisters.

  • Blessed Be :)

  • Didjeridu power !

  • Finlandes

  • what language is this song sung in ?

  • Finnish

  • is anyone losing the sound at 5.10?

  • Ahh... This song was one of my first touches to Gjallarhorn, and I still love it!

  • You have shining silver You have glistening gold Rise up, O maiden Black from the soil Underground crone Most ancient of Nature's daughters Make the peat shoot forth And the ground turn over Underground crone Most ancient of Nature's daughters Lift up a thousand seedlings To reward my efforts.
  • Here is the English translation of the song (which is sung in Finnish) I will post twice to get all the lyrics in. Suvetar, fine matron Arise to see the seeds Raise the matron's corn So that we may be spared pain Manutar, matron of the Earth Lift up the shoots from the ground New shoots from the stumps So that we may be spared pain Feed us with honey-hearts Give us honey-drink Delicious honey-grass On a blossoming knoll
  • damn nerds, its just coooo

  • ...and this one is too horribly out of sync. Go see their webpage for a good one.

  • Agreed it is out of synch..I couldnt correct it :<

  • @way2000 good job correcting it....looks great to me!

  • @way2000 On my computer it's perfectly in sync. :) LOVE this song!! Listen to it every winter to get me in the Spring mindset when the winter blues start setting in. Thanks for the video!!! <3

  • Well wheat, corn... it's fertility symbols. Of course, what Europeans define as "corn" they call maize and is slightly different than corn. And I meant Hedningarna. That was a typo. However, Hedningarna does cool simular music

  • What part of WHEAT did you not understand? Read Notcoldsoups post again and take your "Norse" smartass back to fucking Hedningarna.

  • The woman walking through the corn is probably the Norse sun goddess, Sif, wife of Thor because the corn is associated with her. Garmarna uses a lot of metaphors going back to Norse Mythology, one of the reasons they are so awesome!

  • the wheat woman is not from Norse myth, it is from Finnish myth, she is the goddess of harvest: Suvetar. The song is in Finnish if u dunno that already.

  • "Suvetar is the goddess of the south-wind. Her name comes from the word "suve" for "south" or "summer". She heals her sick followers with honey that she drops from the clouds and she also keeps watch over the herds grazing in the fields and forests. She is an air deity.

    Source: Runes of The Kalevala.

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for telling. Very interesting. Suvetar is also regarded as the goddess of Spring and harvest.

  • She protects the harvest, but is not the god of harvest. Ukko is the god of harvest among other things. The first harvest in Finland is in Summer, the southern winds are supposed to announce it, though in reality winds a liable to come from any direction any season. Paivatar is the god of summer, but some will debate this. As far as I know Finnish mythology has not god of Spring.

  • thanks negativegene, I thought ukko was strictly like Thor and controlled only thunder. To be honest I don't know too much about Finnish myth. By the way, have you seen that new finnish martial arts epic Jadesoturi?

  • I LOVE THIS
