Visionaries (big failure, quick cancellation), Dinosaucers (cornball name and idea), Spiral Zone (a 30 minute commercial), Orbots (everyone had a "Voltron"), Galaxy Rangers (excellent storyline), M.A.S.K. (great intro, not a bad cartoon), Defenders of the Earth (a classic made of classics), Pole Position (a video game promotion cartoon), Jem (another toy TV sales pitch), Wheeled Warriors (deserved 1st place, my personal favourite intro)
Can anyone help me here, I remember a cartoon movie where a guy uses his shoe lace, a berry and a saftey pin to catch a fish on a river, and there are these little ship things that are in his desk or somethign. Thanks lol been bugging me for years, cant think of it. - Aron :)
80s cartoons and the intros are awesome unfortunately these are not them I was born in 81 and only remember a couple of these..pretty bad these give the 80s a bad name
These are some pretty obscure cartoons. I was a cartoon junkie in the 80's and I only recognize M.A.S.K., Defenders of the Earth, and Jem. Bottom-line, though...the 80's were great!
Wow, I did nothing but watch TV for the whole of the 80s and I remember absolutely none of these. I'm guessing they never made it to the UK. Did you not have Battle of the Planets, Dangermouse, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Dungeons and Dragons, Inspector Gadget, Ulysees, Belle and Sebastion, Count Duckula, Dogtanian and the Muskahounds or Willo the Wisp
I remember maybe half of these. I was born in 1988 so my memories of the 80's are slim. But my 80's favs were muppet babies and alvin and the chipmunks and inspector gadget!
@Jeff74FL Who remmembers a sci-fi action adventure cartoon about a planet that is inhabited by canabilistical cyborg machines that love to eat metal. All machines need human flash to cover up their metallic bodies,so they would not get eaten by other cyborg machines.A blonde hero must save the planet ,kill the Machine King and resque the people underground.I saw this cartoon in 1998-1999 about twice. Can somebody help me find this catoon and other movies on YouTube?
uhhhhh..........how about TRANSFORMERS? VOLTRON? SILVERHAWKS? GI JOE? COME-ON. I appreciate your attempt at being obscure, but none of these songs hold a candle to some of the more well known themes from that time.
i used to watch an epic show with a superhero that came out in the night an he/she had like a black leapord i forgot what its called, can somebody help me out.
While I'm not surprised by how craptastic these all were, I was amazed that I had only even known of the existence of one of the ten shows, the truly wretched "Jem." Yikes! I'm glad I grew up on "Superfriends" and Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry!
there should make a cartoon channel for the old cartoons like thunder cats sailor moon old pokemon bring back reruns of toonami and the midnight run and old bommerang
people like to say how cartoons now suck, but there are actually as many good cartoons nowadays too! Avatar the last Airbender, Ben 10 was pretty decent and the new Transformers and Thundercats are also pretty cool! Not to say that 80s and 90s cartoon were bad, they were actually pretty good, like Thundercats for example.
MASK is awesome. Did Foreigner do some of those? LOL. Visionaries was awesome too.
How many of those shows we're completely driven by a line of lame ass toys?
Should have added at least 5 or 10 others.
Centurions, GI Joe, Transformers, Silverhawks, Cops, HeMan, Thundar, Go-Bots (yeah I said it), StarBlazers (probably #1), Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends was even catchy.
my theory for one of the reasons we hate those times is for long time ago we could dream, imagne and create movie serieses about future and stuff.and now when the future has come we are kinda disappointed and not satisfied.
3:33 "In 2086 peaceful aliens came seeking our help. Unfortunately, we kinda shot them out of the sky because we're paranoid like that. And then the actually evil aliens showed up, turned out to be much more powerful, and curb-stomped us. D'oh."
No wonder 80's cartoons are a billion times better then todays cartoon. The intro are catchy, the storys had a plot and had character development. No wonder todays teen perfer japanese cartoons over american ones...
A lot of the negative comment's must be from people who were not born in or around the decade of the 80's. Thank you for posting these awesome themesong's. from someone born in 1977 =)
Im really sorry but seriously WTF. I know il never experience the eightys but Dinosausers?! WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU GUYS ON! ITS LIKE PUFF THE MAGICAL DRAGON WAS SMOKING MARUJUANA WHILE WATCHING TURASIC PARK!
The game on Atari as a kid. Mask was one of my all time favorite childhood cartoons. I actually would steal the action figures from the toy store when I was a kid. Don't judge me.
@DeloreandudeTommy you were born in a good era. i remember growing up as a teenager in most of the 90's. until 96 i became 20 .i would say the 90s were still pretty decent .but nothing compared with the 80's if you were a kid from the 80's you pretty much knew that from 6 am at saturdays til noon the tv was a every kids must i mean who ever had a tv at home.then after the cartoons were over the playgrounds waited for us all outside,..so i think nothing done today can compare with the old days
It's probably been said on here a thousand times, but how was ThunderCats not on this list? People cover it all the time on Youtube on their own guitars and stuff. I guess cuz there's not much to the lyrics of the theme. I have to say this is a great list though... LOVIN' Jem, and Dinosaucers!!
@darkguardian1314 I think he was just thinking of how awesome the songs were not how long the shows were. Even if a show had 10 episodes if it had an awesome theme song it had an awesome theme song.
I'd never heard of some of these (Spiral Zone looks awesome, have to check it out), but I do think Transformers's opening qualifies as a top-10 opening. Ninja Turtles too. But I'm not sure which I'd bump off of this list to make room, so I have to say: Good job. My hat's off to you.
@Vebinz Yeah, that's probably it. Weirdly, I just found 3 of the 4 issues of the Spiral Zone comic book in the 50 cent bin this weekend... I should've bought'em.
I agree with Defenders of the Earth theme, the Mask theme is fantastic, I KNEW Pole Position was going to be there and Jem too. The other six tracks were pretty forgettable. I would have placed Muppet Babies as #1. The vocal harmonies in that are fantastic. I would have included Robotech FOR SURE because the multi section instrumentals are just great. I can't think of another right off hand that I thought was musically special. I did like Heathcliff but just mainly because it sounds crazy. Than
I'm in awe of how hard the Defenders of the Earth singer rocks. He doesn't do anything half-assed, even recording the theme to some shitty cartoon, he insists on rocking as hard as he can.
omg i miss the old shows today i finally gave up on watching disney channel cartoon network and nickeloedeon i hate the new shows and miss the old the only thing i see are musicals in EVERY episode like alls they do is SING i miss all that , hey arnold edd ed and eddy , recess out , and ALL those shows before 2005 when the shows became bad now i have to wait until 10 or 11 to watch my favorite nickeloedeon shows and i hate it i miss the old days :(
I still think Silverhawks had a better intro. What other cartoon had an epic arpeggiated solo from a metal guy in a cowboy hat, in space, while he was simultaneously flying a spacecraft that poops rainbows?
I'm 39 years old and I agree with you:today's cartoons are filled withviolence ans sex...is so sad that our kids have to be exposed to that kind of trash!!!Excellent video ravenphoenix!!!Thanks a lotIt made me remember a lot of things t!!!
In relation to the modern counterpart of the "space mecha type series" The only exception from the 80's that I feel can compete with (90's 2000's future mecha such as EVA and Gurren Laggen) would be mobile suit Gundam. That shit was dope, but even then, I feel like it only got better in the 90's with addition of wing, and my personal favorite 8th MS team.
I have seen many of the 80's cartoon, but I still much prefer many of the cartoons from the 90's, such as Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Doug and the like. Rather than most of the action coke induced hair metal magical girl esque feel of the majority of cartoons of the 80's. While there some cartoon were still scary and fun like ren and stimpy and rocko's and courage, many of them dealt with real life lessons.
I remember everyone of these and their toys. USA channel had most of these playing on Saturday mornings if I remember correctly. 80's cartoons rock. Specially MASK. I had a bunch of their toys.
awww now I'm all sad I was born in the late 80s and never heard of any of these...I know G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Speed Racer, Johnny Quest, Transformers to name a few thanks for the intro
OMG!! I'd totally forgotten about Pole Position! I used to watch that all the time. Seeing it here nearly made my head explode with excitement! I can't actually remember if it was any good or not but who cares!
I'm pretty sure Jem retired to the stripclub by my house.

Also.. all these cartoons were just major marketing tools for selling toys, lol :)

Maybe cartoons back then weren't better, we were just younger and had more imagination!
The music was definitely better :D

Of all the ones you included, I really would have put Pole Position at #1.
I also would have included Mysterious Cities of Gold.
