  • brilliant film. pity its spoilt by such terrible choice of annoying music.

  • @boyfletcher - Yeh... sort of the point of this experiment, you idiot.

  • I didn't have the time to watch this all but it's great

  • When it works, it really works. Music more often than the lyrics. When he falls at 20:00, that was pretty cool.

  • This si crazy at the end, doing this for y language arts class. :)

  • Great job, JPizzle !

  • @scootientherock - Thanks!

  • haha, this is brilliant.

  • why this very stupid and idiot music??????

  • @CostantinoLenzi - Why are *you* an idiot?

  • @CostantinoLenzi peasant

  • @CostantinoLenzi idiot

  • @b0ssmanroy go to hell gay

  • Great Job

  • death: the ultimate cock block

  • Pure Brilliance, thanks for sharing, great to see the entire side of the album in one post!!

  • enjoy the music as you read the comments...press mute to enjoy the movie

  • @satyamd - That sort of defeats the entire purpose of this upload though.

  • @JPizzle1122 True...and I admire the effort here but I feel that the movie is shot with more depth and detail to every frame (almost a sense of "as far(and much) as you can see"). Camera movement per se is slow too. Every act and emotion is very deliberate, determined and intense. This would all require a deeper, darker and equally intense score to complement it....Try experimenting with something like that also...

  • As a matter of fact i am a big fan of this short movie, and despite that jethro tull is a great band, and this is a good song, i have to say that this song does not fits well with the movie,i think it totally ruins the essence and the feeling that this movie brings. It has to be more intensive ,more pronounced, darker song.Sorry but this is very bad choice.

  • SUPERMETROCARDMAN WOW ! AT FIRST GLANCE I THOUGHT I WROTE THIS ! MAYBE YOU ARE MY LONG LOST TWIN BROTHER ? THE ZONE AND TULL WHAT ELSE IS THERE !

  • You combined the Greatest Song Of All Time (Thick As A Brick), with the Greatest Television Show Of All Time (The Twilight Zone).....WINNING! Rare to see two of my favorite things combined into one beautiful piece. Thank you.

  • Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant. Very Nice

  • Google "Dr. lewis Stein" and see how there were black Confederate soldiers!

  • YESSS haha i have to watch this for an english class, i was like "no way its the microwave guys!" in class lol no1 els knew what i was talking about but i felt accomplished :D

  • Never thought two things that have lasted all of my adult life would be brought together in this way. You do lose the very moving audio from the original film though.

  • Also, A Passion Play by Jethro Tull is longer then Thick as A brick

  • Ambrose Bierce. A wonderful writer. Very underrated.

  • Awesome collection of songs.

  • @KatieWinSC This is only one song.

  • still here , still watching and listening

  • is this Unlisted? I was trying to search this all day and I couldn't find it. Finally I searched google

  • That was brilliant! Thank you so much for tweeting about this, I had no idea about this before. This was always one of my favorite stories in English class and Jethro Tull is of course amazing - it matches up so well together and the end was just golden.

  • wow you have good taste aswell as destroying stuff :)

  • "Yo Jon I'm really happy for ya and imma let you finish, but The Flower Kings had the longest song, The Garden of Dreams, which is 59 minutes long" lol

  • @SolarLuna96 Yes, but Jethro Tull created the whole entire concept of making one long song like this, so if it wasn't Tull, The Garden of Dreams wouldn't exist.

  • We watched that movie in my 10th grade english class.

  • @IAmNotAFunguy

We watched it in 10th grade language arts class. Loved it ever since.

  • Well made, but personally not my cup of tea.

  • Ok, Jon, you've kinda outdone yourself this time. This is REALLY good. I'm gonna watch this again when it's done processing.

  • @KrystalBall11 - Haha, done processing? Was that a joke?

  • wow. that was incredible

  • im curious of how many people will actually watch the whole thing

  • Wouldn't Youtube consider this Copywrite infringement? How are you getting away with this jon??

  • @MichaelHeida CopyRIGHTS expire, you know.

  • @bmecoli - For all intents and purposes, they really don't.

  • @MichaelHeida - It's not infringement, it's a derivative work of both pieces of media. I "got away" with it under fair-use of US copyright law.

  • that was amazing.. speechless

  • This is actually a great change in pace as opposed to your normal videos. Great job Jon.

  • lol Civil War movie filmed in France

  • Notice how well the music is so well sync'ed to the scenes. Check out the collapse scene at 19:30 to 20:10. (my favorite) or 5:20 or 7:20 or the climatic ending at 22:30.

This is the best music video I've ever seen.

  • @dohboy2000 - I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

  • I came to this video because it was in my recommendations list. It recommeded this because I watched "Student Suspects His Friends Are Plotting Aganist Him." I thought: something must be wrong with YouTube because Jon would never upload a video about tull, but then I came to this video, and sure enough. Wow, this is awesome man. Tull is one of my favorite bands.

  • @gkchvh - Mine as well, they're quite awesome.

  • Where in France was it filmed? Insight, anyone?

  • I"m looking all over the place, can't find where in France it was filmed- any insight, anyone?

  • Jazz flute is for little fairy boys.

  • @bull068 Please share with us your favorite taste in music. I can't wait to hear.

  • something a lil bit interesting... Jethro Tull + Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.

  • This was an old Twilight Zone picture made in France when the show was in financial trouble.

  • @JonMichael001 - Do your research... no, it wasn't.

It was a short French film that was later re-purposed for The Twilight Zone.

    - Jon

  • its good the way you did it, at first I didn't like it but I wanted to see how it ended because the other post wouldn't load, so I sat through yours. But you did a great job, and it was cool imho.

  • I think that this song not for film.

I saw this film much times (with original s.t.) and i never forget it!

Song is good too, but not for such film.

    It's only my own opinion!

  • I love this song, do you have a HQ of this?

  • stanisgodz - Of the song? Of course. Of the video... unfortunately no - and I mentioned why in the description.

    - Jon

  • seems I stopped reading the description right when you stated that . oh well, thanks a lot for answering even though the answer was already in the description.

    I feel embarrassed...

    but...

at least I'm not moneymaster93, that fool is tied with "Psycho kid playing Halo" for most embarrassed on myspace.(IMHO)

all thanks to You and Jory not taking his crap and feeding it back to him.

thanks for that BTW, it was hilarious

  • i wonda if nate dog bierce has seen this...

  • Cool Video, great music...

  • I love Jethro Tull!

  • Do away with that music dude, ur killing the dramatic aspect

  • Wow.

  • Thanks man.. THis was awesome Tull is a great band I've seen them 9 times and i'm only 18

  • I love this song a lot

  • sounds cool , good video :D . I love jethro tull they are awesome :D

  • Very clever. Very good work.

  • this is awesome. what a creative combination of sound and film. one of my favorite songs anyway, but applied to this, very very cool

  • AugieDog6 - awesome, I'm glad you liked it!

    - Jon

  • ohmigod that was an incredible ending *favs* *5/5*

  • well done---adds much on small screen.

  • wow... amazing... I, and please don't kill for this, haven't heard that song before, it's awesome, and the video plus song thing worked great, great video, great song, great job

  • anyone who can compose 45 minutes of creative music like this is a genius

  • Actually, I think Ian Anderson might have an IQ that is pretty high up there...

  • Yeah, he's unusually articulate for a rock musician. And he's skilled in both guitar and woodwind, which is no mean feat.

  • 1972 year of the rat!

  • Brilliant addition to the images!

  • sleep - dopesmoker is a 62 minute long studio song. smoke dope and read more crazy short stories. 8-)

  • is so beatifull thanks for the musik and the video

    jethro tull juhuuuuu

  • I love dis(this) and I'm a 24 year old black woman!

  • I never would have guessed you liked Jethro Tull, this song is one of my favorites!

  • Not sure why you'd think I wouldn't like a certain band... I love a lot of music.

But, especially Tull, whom I've seen twice in concert now.

  • Great job!!!

  • Thanks!

I just saw Ian & Tull again last night in concert, they were awesome!

  • This is not the longest song in modern rock history. The Allman Brother's Mountain Jam is 45 minutes long.

  • Yeah... but that's a "jam", this is an actual studio song.

  • Tull's A Passion play is 45 minutes long. brick is 43:44 mintutes long.

  • the ending lines up really well.. the violin section with the girl then the sudden break back into the acoustic guitar when his neck breaks

  • Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane

Rough Mix: get A CLASSIC WE ALL LOVE.

    RONNIE REST IN PEACE

  • One of!?

Its in my top 5, for sure.

  • Very clever. Very good work. Thank you.

  • This is very cool... moral? Think! Now! Life is passing - are you seeing what it's all about? How'd we get here? Why? Is there a God? Get ready for that noose - now!

  • Brilliant!

  • Awesome. But Can we get the 45 minute version plz?

  • I *could* post that, but there wouldn't really be a point would there?

  • how'd you get your name, "ideo productions"?

  • I brained stormed one evening, and looked to ancient Greek and Latin languages for inspiration, and really liked the Latin prefix "ideo", meaning idea - etc.

  • two of my favorite things bierce and tull together

  • Really love what you did. the music flowed so well. gave me a new prospective on the song. Thanks!

  • Glad I could help, thanks for watching!

  • This is really cool.

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • Great Job! Thanks for the time, work, and insight to create it.

  • JPizzle I thought you did a fantastic job! As far as some of the Idiots posting, Seems they just don't get it. And some seem to think that you take requests or have to cater to them. Go figure

  • Why thank you!

  • its me again, tell em all 2 f off i love this and it is brill

  • just finished the whole thing. Awesome editing, and the music goes right along with the video. I also remember the original from the Twilight Zone, rather violent for the age. This is a great achievement, combining the two. |"The sand castle issues are all swept away" I am going to see what else might have been done with the song, maybe some doctoral thesis :), or maybe just someone else enjoyed it as much as I have in my life. Spin me back down the years and days of my youth.

  • I stumbled upon the CD at our library and had to get it. When the song first came out I was 19 and living in NJ. Listening to Tull after Aqualung and smoking some weed. What a song.

It became imbedded in my pyshe because it was so interesting to listen to over and over. Then I took a solo bike journey across the US and used the song to pass the time and set cadence for long hauls up hills and over the plains. This was before mp3 and even cassette recordings. Thanks for the posting. Good mix.

  • Then go watch the original. Its not my responsibility to steal someone else's work and put it on YouTube for you to enjoy.

I created an original mash-up, and decided to share. If you don't like it, then don't watch.

Also, I don't have the original anyway.

  • How many lifetimes can you live in one second?

  • You fucking ruined a good movie with that crappy music!

  • no taste in anything probably...

  • You're an idiot. This movie is supposed to be poetic and illustrative. We studied this in film class and in writing class. With that added music, it ruins everything there is to appreciate.

  • See, I think it enhances it, and adds an entirely new level of poetry to it.

  • Technically, "A Passion Play" is longer. ;-)

  • Sad. The last minute was torture

  • Always wanted to see this. Those Union soldiers were por shots weren't they? :P

  • its not them that were poor shots, the muskets of the time period were poorly developed and the ball they shot would not cooperate with today's standard of a bullet. therefore it was rare to hit something.

  • That's true, I know. I was just joking. My dad told me he saw this in school when he was young so I thought I'd check it out. It's very sad.

  • yea i saw it in my english class today. the idea is so much better than the corny hollywood movies they have today. only thing is, it was funny in the end when he was running to his wife for a half and hour...

  • May have been bad shots! Least their inferior guns didn't blow up in their faces. lets debate that issue my friend. Great video. Girls hate Jethro Tull Why?

  • You're right... I haven't met too many females that like Tull any. Me and my girlfriend have very similar tastes across the board, but if I recall correctly, Jethro Tull is one of those bands she "isn't crazy about".

Tom Petty on the other hand...

  • Girls don't all hate Tull. I love Tull dearly, own around 30 CDs actually, and this is awesome as hell. I noticed all the edits, but probably because I've listened to Thick As A Brick about a thousand times, haha. That ending is just devastating with the added edit. Good job!

  • One of the best videos and songs i've ever heard (The song is better).

Like FryedKittens have said, the best 23 minutes of video/music i've ever spent on youtube.

    Nice work, JPizzle

  • put a video up with original audio, it really help kids out cause i cant find one anywhere

  • I would - but I no longer have the original either - I borrowed this copy from YouTube as it was - but the original was taken down I guess.

  • oh ok thanks, its a good video by the way

  • I never saw this video until now but heard of its story many years ago. I've owned the Jethro Tull album for literally decades. I had a feeling about this poor fellow's ending. They strung people up for a lot less back then. I was looking for some long playing background music while using my rowing machine and had to stop and watch. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for posting it. Back to the workout.

  • thank you so much for posting this. in our class we had to watch this and write a response essay to it. We didnt finish the movie in class so this was a BIIGG help. thanks!

  • I saw this short movie on the television when I was about ten years old. The story fascinated me but I never did catch the name of the episode. For 43 years I have wondered about the movie and tonight I finally had a chance to look it up on google. wow. seeing it again is like seeing an old friend. thanks!

  • :'( but the original score was so strange and beautiful..

  • i saw dis joint in middle skool and now we're readin the storie in high school...wow how coincidental ....man this freaked me out when i first saw it...our whole class wuz confused!! den our principal *the one who showed it* explained it to us...lol we all were feelin dumb...good movie tho....sad ..but good

  • That sucks...

That he got hung afterall, I mean.

  • that was good, i havent read that story in like three years. i love it

  • I saw this back in high school!

  • the song isn't complete :(

but nice video and song are perfect... it's very sad :(

  • omg, I love it!

the video with the song, it was just so appropriate. The ending was sad, but that just made it all so much better!

best 23 minutes and 42 seconds I've ever spent on youtube

  • That's some high-praise. Thanks for watching, and appreciating!

  • hey JPizzele1122....could you upload the original movie without any rescoring or any kind of edit....

  • 1) That might get removed from YouTube (where I got it from originally)

    2) I don't have it anymore anymore, as my copy was lost when one of my hard drives crashed a few weeks ago. My full-res copies of my own created work were on a separate HDD, so *this* wasn't lost, but the source video was.

  • girlfriend hates/ I love it

  • same here :)

  • Excellent stuff! I haven't seen that film in 20 years.

There are so many great coincidences with the music, too. But throw on Fear of a Black Planet and watch an episode of Kate and Allie with the sound down and you'll see some crazy shit, too.

  • i am officially addicted to this video

  • Excellent!

  • this is unbelievably fantastic. i can't stop watching it. perfect sync with thick as a brick. love it

  • OkThanksBye!

  • He makes a good point. Jethro Tull is utter shit. You ruined a fantastic piece.

  • Then don't watch it? ... fucking idiots think they need to police the internet.

  • yeah i totally agree with you there, besides i havent been able to find this music anywere else other than live and there the sound is really shit so i REALLY REALLY aprresiate that you put this up :)

  • This is actually only like 1/2 the song though...

  • yeah but to be honest its only the 2 first mins i hear ;) i love it

  • Yeah, f%uk them!

  • The the hatters that diss this vid!

  • nice dude

  • where the hell is Biggles when you needed him last Saturday? just where, oh where, is Biggles?

  • Inspirational. Thank you, Jethro Tull...

  • BOLLOCKS

  • its a good song but its boring after a while

  • we watched the original movie in my history class today. most entertaining video ive seen in school. its so funny. especially the ending when he is running to his wife. reminded me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. great video

  • Thanks, JPizzle, for a wonderful blend of of film and music. Tull is my all-time fave group and I am also a Civil War buff, so I was blown away by this. I love the point around 20:00 when the running man falls to the ground in perfect sync with the dramatic change in musical tempo. And the ending, when the fantasy run to his southern belle ends with the reality and sounds of the rope springing and his body hurtling downward, is also great.

  • w polsce też są fani JETHRO

  • Very entertaining few minutes. Thanks for it,Pizzle!

  • Excellent. I can hardly believe how well the music synchronizes with the film. Will Ian Anderson write the screenplay?

  • That would be neat. He does love oddball projects.

  • first saw it Edinburgh film festival would believe 43 years ago, I still think of it, Its the first time Iv seen it since, Thanks for that

  • still watching

  • awesome man lol i saw this yesterday in english class

  • WTF!?! I want the original thing, w/o the whole song. PLEASE!!!!

  • that sorta sucks dude makes it all the way back to his girl, just to get shot. after all that he went through. oh the irony

  • No, no, he wasn't shot.

You'll notice that just before the General steps of the piece of wood, time starts to slow down, Peyton Farquhar starts to hallucinate.

He just imagines the whole escape, while in reality he's being hung.

It's that whole "life flashing before your eyes" deal.

  • why does the movie show a watersnake and spider?
