Beastly airplane. I don't care what people say, I find both A380 series and B747 series amazing and mastery of aircraft engineering. Nice video, love the approach, even thought a little rough.
If the start and landing of an commercial airplane looks like the launch and return of a Saturn V, you've proven it is too big to use on a daily bases
Feb 08, 2012. Those arm-chair DRIVERS who comment on the skills of the Pilots, must know that every pilots goes thru a rigorous training and orientation in a simulator of the type of plane he flies. Lading a plane of any type is the most crucial part of a pilot's training and experience.
Yet the changing wind factor effects every landing.
Looks like a light wind day, maybe 10kts. gusting to 15kts. This pilot doesn’t have it straightened out when he touches down, then over controls badly coming down the runway. When he applies the reversers either he doesn’t have them synced or is adding too much power to one side and she gets squirrely again.
I don’t mean to bust on this pilot at all, but when you’re coming in with a light crosswind you straighten it out with the tail at the last second before touchdown. That way the landing gear and tires don’t take the side load like it did in this landing.
When the tires do grab and straighten the plane out he counters with opposite rudder input, which in turn throws him in the opposite direction because the plane was already straight due to the tires. He then over controls again the opposite direction to counter the first input of rudder. If he and the co-pilot were ahead of the plane they should have known the tires had straightened out the plane and kept natural rudder.
I think since it’s such a new plane and who knows how many hours these two have in her, it will take some time before they can land without fishtailing all the way down the runway. God help them if they encounter a real crosswind landing 20kts. to 30kts. gusting to 45kts. Of all the pilots I’ve taught the hardest thing to get across to them was not to over control, their senses tell them one thing but their brain is telling them something else
how can anyone call this airplane ugly? to me, it's a gorgeous piece of engineering genius that represents years and years of hard work and a huge leap in the world of aviation...one could reasonably argue that the 787 is a more practical contemporary endeavor but that's ok...they are 2 vastly different enterprises
Enzo Ferrari thought his 1979 Formula 1 championship winning 312T4 was "the ugliest Ferrari ever". Personally I thought the old man was stuck in the past (he was, Lotus pretty much led the development in the 60's and 70's), and after his death that very car has gotten loads of praise.
Btw, I am of the opinion that the lack of aesthetic beauty is the last resort people come up with when there's nothing else wrong with a product, or people...
@duxberry1958 cheers and im by 23L but near the runway lights, if you go through the tunnels towards Wilmslow, then go up the path on your right not long after the tunnel, follow that past the fire station, down the steep hill, across the river bridge, through the river tunnel, and follow the road up, im just on a long mound of earth that runs along side the fence
@iSNiPEjust if your on about the 380, thats daily into manchester, it has been for about a year, but if your on about the reg EDH, i dont know, we have different ones ever day
i always thought that planes land perfectly on the runway but looking at starting 0:29 tyhe plane uses alot of rudder adn bounce like shit all parts throught the touch down .. but the pilots do a great job
@NorthWestAviation I thought I recogmised those rudder corrections on landing. I was arriving from Dubai, I was sat near front right in row 47, window seat.
