First off its a championship meaning he's already ran several races. Second no pacesetter. Third every world record now is set by negative splits meaning a faster second half. It's easier to do this way. Rather I mean its faster nothing comes easy in running.
@Gscrunner7 Well, the 800m world record (and those that came before it) have a significant positive split, and I believe the 400m WR also has a slight positive split, but otherwise you are correct.
Good luck to Borza in 2012. Imagine, defeating two 800m world record holders in two Olympic Games. Will be difficult though to beat Rudisha if he is anywhere near this kind of form though.
you will when you keep it up. Noone else in that field can run a 1:51, except maybe khaki. He should have dusted them all rather than leaving it up to a sprint finish
@sticher68 There is no pacesetter for the World Championships. Without one he can't go out thinking he will run 1:42. Going out for a 49 lap puts him at the risk of having too little in the tank for the second lap, probably 54+ seconds, risking being caught by someone else.
@cobrien1977 You won't drop everyone by running a 49 second first lap; you'll only serve as a pacemaker while the rest are strung out. By running a 23.xx first 200, you ensure you have a lead; Rudisha hits the breaks a little to rest up and allow them to bunch up. Then he slowly hits the accelerators to stretch the field from 400 to 600 and then hits the gas full on at 150 to home. It helps that he's a powerhouse and a lot stronger than the rest; hardly broke a sweat!
Can someone explain the reason why Kaki got to run? Did he automatically progress to the final because of his 'heat' time because I remember him falling in the semi-final..?
Rudisha is amazing.

I dont understand Rudisha's strategy.
Why run a 51.5 first lap and have the whole pack breathing down his neck on the last turn?
Why not run a 49 first lap and leave them all in the dust?

Рудиша конечно силен, ничего не скажешь. Но лучше всех бег провел Юрий Борзаковский! Честь ему и хвала!
