Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process.
How I wish I had had a teacher like you , back so long ago , as I was pummeled to and fro , by the mind stifling public school system , in my childhood , and receiving no inspiration or retreat, from my equally mind stifled parents - family - friends !
Here's one to add to the list. When people right long stuff (maybe valid, maybe not) and they don't want to debate in real time, it's a non-sequiter to conclude it's not a valid criticism.
I want UPB to be true, I want all the time I spent on it to be true, I want the conclusions that follow from it. UPB may be true or not. but the 'proof' you have is invalid. 'UPB is false' is not self-contradictory. (doesn't mean UPB is false).
Sooner you admit this, and find another proof, the better =)
It's arrogant NOT to have a theory of ethics. To not have a theory of ethics is to act in this world without thinking you need to justify those acts. Without a theory of ethics you're basically saying "Nobody and nothing else matters enough to consider whether how I behave towards us is ethical. Conversely I matter so much that it's too much to ask to have me think about anything no matter the consequences to any person or thing.".
I think what Stefan may mean to say around 15:00 is that if you had the idea that reason and evidence were not the standard for adopting or disproving hypotheses, then you couldn't propose to use reason and evidence to prove your idea. To do so would be to contradict yourself. Since the only other standard by which we may prove or disprove a theory is opinion/faith/belief/subjectivity, and since this is an invalid means for proving or disproving anything, reason and evidence must be effective.

Ya, ya but if the person says its God's law from the Bible not me then its not obeying them its obeying the law of God and would be up to you to verify that is what the Bible teaches.
On the same note, your current philosophy on life could also be a result of the same processes which you now believe to be "absolute truth". The books you read the things you watch and so on. Maybe your already in that trap of being under someone else's authority of perception.
Hmm... well your beliefs can be overturned in the face of reason and evidence if one is willfully ignorant of the evidence and chooses to believe a lie instead.
But we already know that there is no such thing as a god. The priest or politician only want you to believe in their cloudy, nebulous concepts of authority, because it gives them power over you.
Now, it might be the case that the priest was, in turn, subjected to his doctrine by another manipulator, in which case we may regard religion as a metaphysical pyramid scheme.
However, I fail to see how that in any way changes the moral reality of what the priest is trying to do to you.
Perhaps you should question the existence of said god before following "his laws." Seems suspicious that this god should care so much about governing us.
Did you miss the part about the difference between beliefs and methodology later in the vid? You might want to watch it again, its an important distinction.

We Rand fans would love to hear you discuss humility in the context of self-esteem and Objectivism.
We want to value ourselves, yet we do not want to appear arrogant or stuck-up.
Does humility degrade in to a sort of "hiding your self esteem under a bushel?" (if you'll forgive my biblical allusion...)
Are truly great people forced to chose between hypocritical humility and obnoxious arrogance?
Are we hypocritical some times when we act humble?
