  • Please cite title and page number of each every single time you upload Sacred Harp selections! We want people to find the music accessible rather than frustrating to locate, don't we?

  • @ClaireConrad Viewers are advised that The Sacred Harp songbook has two indexes in the back, where page numbers are given by tune name and by first line. This should minimize frustration.

  • Sometimes i think this sounds a bit like Gregorian chant

    dont you think so?

    i love it!

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson Other viewers have compared this music to Gregorian chant, or to Russian or Eastern European choral music, so you aren't alone. Sacred Harp singing has 3 or 4 part harmony, however, and I think Gregorian has just one melody line, no harmony. Maybe its the minor mode of a song like the first one in this video that makes it sound 'ancient.'

  • I can't stop listening to this. It's the first thing I type in when I want to listen to some shape note. Brilliant...

  • We sang Poland on Sunday and the alto line is still ringing around my skull. Just how I like it!

  • Beautiful! Soar Away is one of my favorites.

  • Ahhh. The minor mode forms are my favorites--and this is a great group. Thank you.
