  • COOL!!!

  • music is quite annoying ....

  • Damn, sitting there with Erdös at 0:46!

  • I learned about Tao from a Business Insider article.

Top top 3 living "smartest people" were all Asian, 3.) Kim Ung-Yong (Korean) 2.) Christopher Hirata (half Japanese) 1.) Terence Tao (Chinese).

What the hell are Asian parents feeding their newborns!?

  • @AjGuitarist

It has nothing to do with race. It is retarded that people think that race has anything to do with it when talking about Asians being smart? Because when you try to explain why Africa is poor no one ever accepts race.

But in Asia it is still popular to be smart and the parents push them really hard. The smartest people were before Europeans, not because we are white, but because being smart and working hard was considered honorable and something you'd do. That's not the case anymor

  • @AjGuitarist It's more the culture. When Carl Sagan taught at Cornell, he noted that the caucasian students would be happy with a fair grade, but all of the Asian students wanted to excel, and be the best in the class. Anglo-American culture is largely suspicious of intelligence, and the stereotypes of nerd are pejorative, but in most Asian cultures, and Jewish communities, intellectual prowess is seen as a gift and encouraged. That's why America's greatest asset in science is the H1B visa.

  • its all too weird...my brain is hurting.

  • we have asians at our school too

  • @slowmofosho hahaha cool

  • Terence Tao is Exceptionally Gifted.

  • how cute!

  • 2+2=....5? boy oh boy I'm a mathematics genius too doh-yo-yoyoyoyooyyo.

  • @marcmody You're a nobody.

  • @theafi99000 lolz, i would agree, Tao is a genius.

  • he got his phd at 21 omg. i just started my phd and I’m 22.

  • @Muamarz thats still pretty impressive

  • I never understood why people always connect classical music with genius (like in this video). Both things are positive and nice but why? Just why? Being intelligent and endearing doesn't predispose you to finding classical music soothing or necessary.

  • @HumaneAnon I would put some daft punk on this yo!

  • @HumaneAnon I think it is because classical composers were considered geniuses of their time. Albeit, classical music contains specifically musical genius, but still.

  • Comment removed

  • @HumaneAnon Thats maybe your interpretation of it;however, it seems to just expose an insecurity about yourself.Perhaps the makers just wanted to have some background music for thefilm. Don't think to deeply about it.

    AmadeusWinters 1 sec ago

  • The Chuck Norris of Chuck Norris.

  • Asian Will Smith

  • Give your child math book at 6= William James Sidis at 12

  • he wearing glasses

  • which is the lesson (again)?: If you teach math to kids the may become genious, history has proved that in lots of occasions, don't buy your children a stupid barbie, instead buy them a periodic table.

  • did anybody notice that his ideas flow so quickly to his mouth that his mouth can't cope up, so he starts mumbling

  • @Sam10947 maybe... you have a point.

  • How did he get a PhD at age 20? The education system is very different in the USA.

  • @DaGavinX Heh, easy Poindexter. He'd be a fucking genius in your country, too.

  • @KidCr3nshaw You misunderstood me. I'm not saying that he wouldn't be a genius in my country, but that not matter if you're Einstein you would have to sit through every year anyways. Probably you would get your Phd faster than others, but certainly not at 20.

  • clever person.

    good for him.

i'm still doing my masters in physics & i'm 29.

  • He isn't a genius just asian

  • This really doesn't ADD UP.

  • phd at age 20 from Princeton ....

  • 26 need a dictionary for the word prodigy.

  • To me as an asian we think you Americans and europeans are smart.

  • i agree, it's not just because he is asian. type in "math genius" into your search and you'll see daniel tammet or jake barnett .. and more.

  • @baysacrazy Daniel Tammet isn't a genius, he's a savant. His talents don't come from any kind conscious or applied effort or reasoning, but more from some kind of unconscious compulsion. Like a glitch in his brain. It's a bit unfair to call him a genius. He was born with an incredible and unusual gift, but not that kind of gift.

  • the bruce lee of mathematics

  • @EisEisBaby yeah i mean he's asian right

  • 0.57 He might be clever, sure, but he has to use one of those things my dog wears after an operation to stop him scratching his face.

  • @HitMeQuick hope that was a joke, they circled him to show where he was in the photo...

  • @HitMeQuick and your point is?

  • @RoosterRoox It's a joke, Rooster, you jug eared hillbilly. The point was to make you laugh. Clearly it's a ridiculous statement based on a trick of the eye. Incidentally having to explain this does take the edge of it. So thanks for your stupidity. (I'm not really thanking you).

  • Has this guy even a theory or proof? I tried to find some, but to me it seemed like he only has papers where he does advanced math and shows how to solve problems in a more elegant or economic way.

  • This guy is great, but he is NOT the best mathematician in the world. Grigori Perelman is far far greater. The Poincare conjecture destroyed mathematicians for over a century, starting with Poincare himself. This guy has to do something of comparable magnitude before anyone labels this guy with lofty titles as the best mathematician in the world. The work he has done until now are not earth shattering, in the way the Ricci Flow with surgery is.

  • @nightowl8936 thats true...but we have to consider as well Andrew Willes....for solving the fermat last theorem

  • @nightowl8936 solving one big problem does not make you the best mathematician in the world, by your logic, Ken Ribet, Andrew Wiles are the best mathematicians cuz they solve a much longer unsolved problem: Fermat last theorem

  • Haha on one of the windows on the building of ucla it shows square root 5 - 1 all over 2 anyone who knows their math well knows that's pie 3.142

  • @DartmouthAlum96 what's trim?

  • This guy is also a genius in math because his right lobe and the logical part of it developed faster, and is more developed, than the rest of us.

  • well done boy

    guys don't be racial

for me his teachers are better ;they helped him to be that one

  • There is always going to be an asian kid better then you

  • God disguised in Terrence Tao.

  • watching this video just confirms there are three types of people in this world. Those who are good at math and those who aren't.

  • @wittenberg5

That is just a stereotype. I suck at maths and I still achieved MSc and working on PhD in control theory. You can learn pretty much anything, maybe you won't be a Terry Tao but don't let anybody tell you that you can't do maths.

  • wen it comes to math german is the best this guy aint shit german white race is way better he hasn accomplish anything great yet

  • he got 2 brain

  • and in the end it is just an advertisment for UCLA.

  • He needs to come up with an equation on how to be a better Asian driver. lol

  • Dr. Terence Tao return to China it needs you

    :P

  • @forhumanityman He was born and raised in Australia. China has pretty much nothing to do with him. If he ever returns anywhere, it should be Australia.

  • Ed Witten is also very bright

  • is this maths porn??

  • Guys should be Presidents but only to part that needs to be solved, the implementation leaved to those that will adapt the solution to Humanity.

Great work man, keep it up.

  • i've heard julia rushcher is MORE brilliant than tao

  • its funny how they did not show that terence got bronze medal at age11, and gold medal by age 13 at IMO-international mathmatics olympiad.

  • He got his PhD by age 21 which is unusual, however, it is not unusual to find PhDs at 24. There is a PhD for every 1000 BA/BS on Math. Equally amazing is old people, married people with children or people that left school for years before going for their PhD.

  • will hunting is better.

  • I am searching for some geniuses to solve some of my math puzzles.

  • Are smart people allowed to not wear glasses? Ever smart person I know of wears glasses :c

  • @BLinDaTbESt they are ... they just wont see anything XD

  • INTERNET FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

  • @69yi: He grew up in Australia.

In Australian mathematics we say that one way to solve difficult problems is to try and get Terence Tao interested

  • INTERNET FIGHT! EVERY MOVE OUTTA THE WAY!

  • that guy sound brittish

  • Trust the awesome Australian eduction system to be a fundamental building block to foster this guys mathemetical ability.

  • dont like math.

  • @schlecht13

Your English is bad. 'Don't like math' doesn't mean anything.

  • @dudejohnny Who gives a shit...

  • @LamaPaj

Implying you don't give a shit contradicts your action of stopping to reply.

  • @dudejohnny Not really, I give a shit about people commenting on other peoples spelling. No one cares about their spelling...

  • @LamaPaj

That's interesting because nobody commented on his spelling. In fact, his spelling is perfect. I commented on his English so you felt the need to... comment about a comment about language and say it was about spelling. If I'm ridiculous, then so are you.

  • @dudejohnny internet speak. u mad?

  • @schlecht13

    Excuses? umadbro?

  • @dudejohnny sweet

  • I'm getting a little sick of the whole "It's because they're Asian" saying. It isn't merely because they Asian, it's because of their culture, the way they're raised. They are raised with a whole different WORLD of discipline, and because of this, they end up smarter, capable of self-discipline, more well-mannered, and more successful, among other things. We are failing ourselves over here, period.

  • @NeoGodHand

I am indian. This is what things are like. After school hours 99% of high school students have to go to tutions.

Why? School teaching in maths and science is substandard. You are expected to go for Math,Science,Engineering,Medical etc bcoz you are paid much more. There are entrance exams like IIT-JEE which absorbs about 5% of the total test takers. The SAT is much easier than JEE. So the conclusion is you somehow cannot avoid calculus, geometry,Algebra etc shoved down your throat .

  • @NeoGodHand

There are coaching centres in india which specialize in tution for IIT-JEE. KOTA in rajasthan survives entirely on this business.I have been there so i know. Getting through the exam is easy if you are devoted. No distractions in the city. But the question arises that if JEE is a tougher selection criteria than SAT. Then why doesnt IIT have a single nobel prize? Please post your comments

  • Comment removed

  • @NeoGodHand Tru.

Most of the IMO hall of fame are not Asian

  • @NeoGodHand Perhaps that is true. Though what is certainly a factor is that the Asian languages (especially Japanese and Chinese) have a much better and intuitive way of dealing with numbers than our western langauges.

  • @muesk3 I do think it's because he is asian. Not in a racist, or mean way. It's just that asians have more dicipline. We do have people like this in america, but not that many.

  • @Loves2spooch123 That could indeed be a factor, but what I' saying is that it's been "proven" that the structure of their language helps them with maths. The same thing can be seen in some different dialects, if you will, of French.

  • PhD at 20...holy shit

  • @cz4r1 21*

  • wow I think a kid in my school is going to be like this guy; the next big genius... He has graduated from Yale a few months before he graduated from high school (he took math classes at yale half of the day and spent the other half at high school)

  • When he invents a time machine then post a YouTube vid

  • doing math is like winning the retard olympics, your still retarded, but in this case is still doesnt get you anywhere by knowing this shit

  • @phillysfinest94 that might have been the most brilliant thing i've heard all day....

  • Comment removed

  • @phillysfinest94 right because this guy is probably making bank. most of the medicines, appliances, buildings, and vehicles we see and use are designed by doctors and engineers that use math therefore they have gone somewhere and make 6 figures. unless your a owner of a business, music artist, or pro athlete i dont think someone with only a high school degree, GED, or working at a McDonalds for minimum wage is going anywhere. also making fun of people with a mental condition is pathetic.

  • Only chuck norris can win to terry tao!

  • Tao looks sweet and fluffy lol

  • Ching Long ting tong ling long? ROfl JK

  • i can prove that zero more zero is equal to 1, and the zero is a lie

  • Wow the description took off a year from what the video says. He began taking calculus at 8 and he got his PhD at 21 lol

  • Confrontation. Woops.

  • I like this prizes and honors seem like a competition to me,i´m the best!

After you know all, you realize you don´t know nothing. Confucius

  • @sexoja23 "You realise you don't know nothing". You may want to change that.

  • Comment removed

  • @sexoja23 I'm guessing the comment removed means you realised I was talking about the double negative. Not everything on youtube is a confruntation. :)

  • @Aquill0 being double negative isn't bad because is there is a positive and that creates potential difference and make the flow goes lol

I removed the comment because of a wrong word i wrote, sometimes supposed can take you wrong evidences, that is called logic deductive capacity.

    :P

  • @sexoja23 We've all been there; they really should put a spell-checker on youtube. And you're right, I did assume and I apologise for it.

  • @Aquill0 Now buy me an ice cream for the apologies!

  • @sexoja23 Never!

  • @Aquill0 Can be a softie simple no chocolate cream, thanks!

  • What's more interesting is Terry Tao didn't do so hot on his generals (oral comprehensives) at Princeton. In fact, his examiners told him later that his knowledge of harmonic analysis was far from satisfactory. It's a testament to his work ethic that he concentrated on harmonic analysis for his thesis. Basically, he expanded his knowledge on areas he knew were his weak points.

  • ...back in high school my flip buddy started crying because he got a B in a calc class... i asked him wtf was wrong with him, that that was an awesome grade and he told me that last time he brought home a B, he had to stand outside at night during a storm... his dad then went to check on him around 3a.m. and told him he could either stay out in the rain until morning, or he could come inside and he would get hit again... this is why he was crying... and this is why asians rock at math (^.^)

  • @48memorex

Do u know what does a B grade imply? It implies that u are only willing to put in efforts to do the easy tasks and not willing to handle the more difficult jobs. It means that u have a character flaw. Asian parents can't accept their childen to have character flaws.

  • you r not albert einstein i am the kig of math

  • :38 Berries and cream! from starburst commercial!

  • Ramanujan has him beat heres the link below!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sktbd5001 It wont let me add the link the videos called:

GOD ZERO & INFINITY DOCUMENTRY 4mins

  • Dear Asian parents,

Do not look at this video and think that your child will be this person.

    From Asian kids everywhere,

    kthxbai

  • @pixelbind best ever comment i've read on youtube

  • How to be good at everything:

    1) Be asian

    2) Repeat step 1

  • @yourmommm123 no, how to be good at maths, but not everything - when was the last time you saw a macho asian on tv?

  • @BarriosGroupie Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee...

  • @BarriosGroupie Ninja Warrior?

  • @yourmommm123 that's called racism.

  • @isocrate27 it's called fact of life

  • @yourmommm123 Maybe you could explain this fact then : Seung-Hui Cho

  • @isocrate27 Ouch.

  • @yourmommm123 asians arent good at everything

  • @yourmommm123 fail

  • @yourmommm123 i m asian, and i suck, pls help! XDxD

  • @yourmommm123 has nothing to do with race. Einstein wasn't Asian. So wasn't Hilbert.

  • @dawncoming exactly. what about Culture, The Environment and parenting

  • @yourmommm123 he still can't drive. LOL

  • @yourmommm123 driving???

  • @yourmommm123 Jesus Tap Dancing Christ

  • @yourmommm123

    Except sports.

  • He just "happens" to be asian

  • i'll probably not even finish college at 21.. damn

  • why not when MOST people finish college at 21.

  • @jetliigor He got a doctorate at the age of 21.

  • i'm not talking about that i'm talking about finishing college. Well you can't compare Tao to normal people, he's not your average person.

  • @jetliigor Sorry, I thought you WERE commenting on the video... My mistake.

  • Terence Tao is brilliant, but I think the work of Edward Witten is even more more impressive.

  • @Emil54 hmm . . .

  • @ltlwatcher ucla is not known for Alexandra Wallace. It's known for sending the first internet message, John Wooden 7 championships in a row, from 1984 to 2008 Olympics alumni have won enough medals to place 5th among top winning countries, most applied to university in the country, and famous alumni like James Dean, Francis Ford Coppola, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Troy Aikman, Johnny Cochran, and a lot more.

  • asian, I kick ass at maths and could have done maths easy but I decided to do engineering because it actually has real world applications and theres a greater chance of getting a job at the end of the degree

  • I just understand that If you don't attend an Ivy league college, then you can't a.s. do maths. That's the fundamental theorem of modern society. Ramanujan was a non-measurable set. And it's pretty general, "...then you can't a.s. find a decent job", is also correct. The concept behind this is "network", like Goldman Sachs Network, Mafia Network, Ivy league college network, etc.

  • The people with Mathematical talent have so deep eyes. They are looking somewhere in the infinity.

  • okay i am so jealous of this guy's mathematics abilities. i could use some help with my math homework ;)

  • When the world ends, you wont need to be educated, just have street smarts

  • @BeepimajeepBeep

It's actually the opposite. When the world ends, street smarts will get you nowhere.

  • @xtw1tch3s Most of our technology will be obsolete when the world ends. All order will be lost, therefore all academia will be lost. It will be all wits, and street smarts. You wont have your technology to hunt, just your bare hands, and your social intellect.

  • @BeepimajeepBeep wow that is the stupidest comment I have ever read. I wish I could give you a cookie. :D You should realize that academia will never be lost. Everything is part of academia your so called street smarts, wits, and social intellect included. Heck using a rock to beat someone in the head to steal there food is part of academia. It takes knowledge to know a rock can hurt someone. You can deny it's existence but it doesn't mean it's not there.

  • @NewWorldOrderRED I'll rephrase my statement to please you. Sitting in a classroom and learning academics will be lost. Try not to be so angry, I know you invest your whole life in school.

  • @BeepimajeepBeep for arguments sake lets say all schools were closed and learning became illegal guess what people would still be learning. The brain is built so that you are constantly learning even sub conciously. The best examples are babies, no matter what you try they will be learning as soon as they are born. Maybe you mean high end mathematics is over but even those can be rediscovered so in the end academia will still carry on no matter what.

  • @NewWorldOrderRED I just said that academia is considered to be classroom learning. You failed to even note my point. What you just stated is basic learning.

Academia is defined as: an academic community. i.e. school

  • @BeepimajeepBeep If you define academia as an academic community then you just proved my point because if schools stopped existing today people would still gather together to learn. Whether for some reason there was mass paranoia and people on the whole didn't trust each other you would still have small groups of people at the very least family member that did get together to share what they know. Academia is more than just what you learn at school and for that reason it will never end.

  • @NewWorldOrderRED I disagree. I respect your opinion

  • his parents probably brag about him all day everyday

  • him vs daniel tamet. who would win?

  • @ltlwatcher LOL

  • @pureprimes No! Primes are made for RSA, lolol. got the joke? Anyway, GTFO.
