imagine being Trey Anastasio at around 4:40 in the video. shredding your ass off and looking up to see a room of people raging, dancing, and having a blast
GODDAMN that's good. Every note and beat is perfect. Trey's logic is refreshingly raw and unclouded by pills (or arthritis). Rocket takes off at 1:40.
They rehearsed more up to '97. And in the '91 and '92 days, Trey really led the way and was Mister Cool Licks. And I mean that as a compliment because he's never one to just play licks, put his head down, and listen to himself. He's a spiritual player, unlike Zappa, who I love.

i heard they had a big circle jerk after this set...cactus phinishes phirst, then fat drumz guy, then gay piano playa...den tray phinish last cuz he was holding out 2 c da other boyz shoot they loadz
92 was a good year... well from what i've heard (including this) I was 11 at the time and didn't start seeing them till 95 (binghamton NY) This show especially looked like a lot of fun!!! Can't wait for this summer!!!
Instead of wasteing your time compareing 90's Phish to todays Phish why don't you focus on the great things their doing NOW. It's been my experience that in life we often get distracted by the in the moment "BS" and we don't appreciate the here and now.
Their only touring now because of nostalgia? They only want money? They don't sound as good as they did in the 90's?? Listen! They are fist and fore most musicians that love to play music PERIOD. All you musicians out there, I bet you will still be playing when your 95 years old because you love it!
firstly, any of you putting down one another are quite silly - aren't we all phish fans here?! get real. also, appreciation of music is always subjective. don't judge. personally, i went to uvm from 89-92 and have listened to little since 95...don't fee it compares. But to each is own - good for you if you feel the vibe. the band rocks. and for the dude who ragged on John Mayer - you have no appreciation of guitarists - certainly ones from this generation.
Good for those who enjoy it now. It clearly isn't what it once was, but have fun. Anyone calling '97 their best year didn't see them in '91, '92 or '93. The best Phish? Marley under the keys, the Minkins, Mrs. Pizza Shit, Zero Man, Roll Like a Cantaloupe, slow NICU, My Friend when it was called Knife, the van giveaway, fall '91 Landlady>Destiny, 300 other people in the place, glasses tinkling. And best of all? $10 tickets.
i was born in '93, meaning i was only 3 during their "hiatus", which i am kind of bummed about because i have grown up listening to these guys and wish that i could have been there to experiance the "raw" material from the '90's. i got to see them at deer creek '04 before they split, and then in burgettstown this june. i love their music, so if you don't like them, shut up and let the rest of us phish heads enjoy the tunage...seriously.
what about people like you who were born too late to see phish before their hiatus?...well thats why you think they're incredible...because you didnt see it then. To me its sloppy.
for dude to say "they suck" is so unintelligent its not even funny. that fact is they have grown and developed .. okay maybe the arent "as raw" as in 92 but thats life. band change and grow... it doesnt mean they suck.,. this guy CLEARLY has not been to a show. all one needs to do is GO SEE THEM!! and you will be lown away.. they are still the best. period..bunch of snobs.
i dont think it has anything to do with intelligence...since its an opinion. How old are you, seriously? Phish has no purpose anymore...its all about the nostalgia which for you is new stuff since you're a little pissant. Enjoy your Phish but i'm telling you it was was better. 97 was the year gents.
you are seriously a tool snadwich josh.. who the F are you? can you even play an instrument? i mean for christs sake are you serioulsy out here nitpicking liek you are the final say? yeeeeah right kid. i saw them a ton in 97 .. it was a great year to see them but it doesnt mean that are still a great band...you obv were not at any of the shows this tour. so play something else on your ipod for daddy.
I do like Phish...up until the 1st hiatus. Everything after that sucked. I was responding to someone who doesn't realize that and wont let someone indulge in a comment on youtube without defending Phish. Way to go. And for the record..."Your" doesn't mean "you are"...
Wow, I have never heard tisversion before it is awesome. As far as Phish goes these day, I have to say they are as good as they have ever been. Went to Deer Creek this year and it was very tight and fun. I have been to about 30 shows and it was right up there with the best.
all the nay saying faggots out there are just jealous they cant get tickets.. there are so many veteran fans out there that followed them from the early, mid, and late 90's that have said 3.0 phish is some of the best they have experienced.
phish is still good actualy they just played a great show at fenway and i heard they were tighter than ever at alpine valley and i heard jones beach was great so he just needed to sober up i guess. dont hate on phish
in response to that comment, youre right. i saw the show at the fox and both at alpine. fox was a dissappointment, but at alpine they tore it up. the intensity of both shows, the fun trey was having, the funk gordon was putting out, it was really just an incredible show. they made made for studio tunes into unbelievable live jams. phish know whats goin on
The YEM at Boston, where Trey normally flubs lately, he played it perfectly. I was surprised (very pleasantly) becasue I've almost gotten to the point where I didn't want to hea that song cause it was painful. However he nailed it in Boston...I think he just needs to be sober for a while and remember!
I'm trying to find a version of this song that was played probably sometime between 92 and 95. It was recorded and released on one of those weird overseas reissues (so not an official Phish album or bootleg) called, I think, Return to Gamehenge although the CD had nothing to do with gamehenge. It was a Mike's-Hydrogen-Weekapaug jam that included soloing taken from Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue". I've scanned some of the MP3's online but haven't been able to find this and lost my CD.
Don't minus him tards. Did you go to Coventry, Saratoga "last" tour '04. Trey flubbed every song. shit he completely flubbed NICU and that was 2000. And the way he wasted time doing nothing "playing" songs like Sand and leaving Mike to do all the work .I could tell he was rolling. Downhill from '96 I guess. We will see how this next tour is, but im not paying 90 bucks a ticket. Luckily I know the peeps at the venue.
I really don't care about flubs. Its all about the JAM for me. If I wanted to see a band nail the same notes every night I wouldn't see Phish. In my opinion, many songs are just launch pads to jump into some great improv jamming. Give me 4 song sets with tons of type II jamming and I'm there!
Well theres a difference between not nailing the same notes as usual and just obviously fucking up to the point where its embarrassing to watch.
And you kinda missed the point when I said (mostly 1999 and onward) his jamming sucks too. He just dances around like a rolling idiot while mike lays down a cool beat for like 20+ mins.(ugh SAND). Wed be lucky if he touches his guitar at all when hes like that. I will say he does sound good @ this show, so I'm hopeful.
nah josh i dont agree...he did flub hampton but they just need to warm up.. thats why i didnt go to hampton...well that and i couldnt get tix.. but by the time i amd at jones > camden > meriweather they will be flowing... you will see... trust.
I'm playing music, thats what i'm doing. I liked Phish in the mid to late 90's era when they were good. Now they suck and so do you westxcoasttoobs. Go to every show this summer and eat your gooballs and entrench yourself in the "scene". Last good thing Trey did was his self titled solo album.
I never said i was better than "what the phish from vermont" do. You asked me what i'm doing. I hate most jam band music so your notion about widespread panic being a favorite of mine as well as my need for a heady jam is way off pal. I wish phish played to the quality of this video that we seem to be commenting on. I heard they sucked at Bonnaroo this year. They just dont have it anymore. Should have hung it up. Maybe Trey needs more money...
HAHA your a moron. "i heard roo sucked" well if you werent there and you havnt listend to the recordings you can fuck off faggot. go play your bluegrass or alternative or hip hop..what the fuck e ver. whats your band called? have i heard of them? i rest my case. bitch. get on your knees for me.
"your a moron"...someone get this guy an education. Phish sucks these days and so do you westcoast. Go spend your life savings on phish tickets this summer you stupid asshole dickface!
WestCoast, I truely believe you may have some degree of mental retardation due to the fact that you don't know what quotes mean. This is too easy for me.
Sorry. Didn't get to that many shows by giving the tickets away. Keep your eyes on Craig's List and places like that. Some face value tickets pop up every once in a while.
