I have to wonder how many people who've heard Lenny sing this know that this song was actually written and recorded by Michael Kamen of the New York Rock Ensemble in 1971.

Kamen went on to writing scores for film and was nominated for two Academy Awards and won three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, two Ivor Novello Awards, an Annie Award and an Emmy. While I like Lenny's arrangement of the song, I like the original better.

A bit more history: Lenny learned this song at age 12 while singing with the California Boys Choir. The drug references in the original lyrics were removed so the kids could sing it, and when Lenny brought the song into his repertoire, he asked me if he could use my drug-free lyrics, and the rest you hear on this track. Thats because slash was at the continuation part of beverly hills high while lenny was in the regular classes. slash was kind of a problem child but that just goes to show that talent isnt a matter of book smarts it comes from the SOUL.
