Makarov is my Uncle. He is a great man and a great hockey player still even though he is old. I some day wish to play for the CCCP the Russian Pro Teams and the NHL in America, He has inspired me to become the greatest hockey player i could ever be.

If you think,Sweden and Finland for example have won Canada and their population is 500 times smaller so i think its easy to say that Canada is the best cause they have all star players. But the best "TEAMS" are Sweden and Russia. The red machine was the best team ever though.

Last I remember, the Summit series of 1972 was played 4 games in Canada and 4 in Moscow...Canada won the remaining 3 games in Russia with biased referees. Where do Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalchuk, etc play?...they play in the NHL which is in America. The World Cups have to occur somewhere.... do you think Russia has the resources to host such a tourney? @wg390...Cont...If you really want to gauge hockey talent...the World Juniors is a yearly best on best tourney... Since 1990 Canada has won 12 Gold... and Russia has won 5!... and this is a tourney that is played in both Europe & America...Could we win so many championships without skills?...Russian fans discount this tourney by saying they are just kids... Unfortunately, because of the NHL, it is not often that our best pros can play... however, when they do they usually win.

@06Steven58 Yeah the best hockey team ever that went on to lose to Team Canada in the 84, 87 & 91 Canada Cups...plus the 72 series, 76 series... oh I almost forgot about the 2 gold medals out of 4 that Canada won since the olympics allowed pro players. The big red machine were really awesome when they played against amateurs (kids)...oh wait I forgot they lost to a bunch of kids in 1980 when the USA won the olympics.
The real funny thing is that in most of these hi-lights of russia scoring on Canada.... Canada won the eventual game/series. History is proof.... best on best... Canada has defeated team russia or soviet union more times than not...so it's not really an argument... Canada is the best....period.... Russians have good skills, but do not know how to play tough physical style, which ultimately is why Canada usually wins.
They were extremely good, but need to remember they used to play over 750 games together, and lived in a sport camp life most of the year. Only few times a year with a family. Basically not other life but hockey.

The competition between the Canadians and the Soviets (and Herb Brooks' 1980 team) all helped the game reach a level of nobility unequaled in team sports. I respect all those competitive warriors

I don't like the N/American style, although we are learning some of the finer skills, that we never had back in the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's. We are getting better. But still cant compete with out the "Banging & Crashing", that the Officials seem to over look when it's done by us (NA).

At present there are 550,000 registered hockey players in Canada, 500, 000 in the U.S. Mother Russia . . . about 130, 000. Russia is no longer a dominant hockey power and this has been clearly illustrated in the Olympics and World Junior Championships. If Russia does not turn things around (like Canada had to do in the 80's and 90's) all they will have is rhetoric and not glory when the time for Sochi arrives.

Just the best team I ever saw. Playing rough to me was so primitve compared to Sovjet technique, teamplay, cunning, agility, speed. Always when I saw NHL hockey or Canada/USA on the Olympics I found it secondclass compared to the USSR. In Holland we played hockey when there was ice (in winter), but we are an icespeedskating country. I always loved Brazils footballskills and in Olympics, we had USSR as an equivalent in icehockey. Makarov, Tretjak, Larionov etc stellar players in an awesome team.

Think that through before you post on youtube please, Canadas best pros all played in the nhl while Russias back in the day stayed in the Russian league (the pros in this video actually). Nhl players wernt allowed in the Olympics tell 1998 in nageno and since then we won medals in 2003, 2004, 2007. Russia is a great hockey country as well, but its not fair to compare the two as these guys are clearly nhl caliber when canada just had amateurs

he only ever played for the money, he could have been great if he truly had passion for the game, instead he even missed a season due to contract disputes. He would have probably rebounded his bad 2 seasons in new york but his 87+ million dollar contract was the reason he never got a second chance.

I will admit that the 1980 CCCP team that won the Canada Cup in 1980 was the greatest team ever!! However, since 1976 there have been 11 hockey tournaments where every country has sent the best players they have. Canada has won 7, Sweden 1, Czech Rep 1, USA 1, and USSR/Russia 1 (1980). So you would be foul to not admit that Canada is the best hockey country in the world.

@wg390...Cont...If you really want to gauge hockey talent...the World Juniors is a yearly best on best tourney... Since 1990 Canada has won 12 Gold... and Russia has won 5!... and this is a tourney that is played in both Europe & America...Could we win so many championships without skills?...Russian fans discount this tourney by saying they are just kids... Unfortunately, because of the NHL, it is not often that our best pros can play... however, when they do they usually win.

@wg390 - I always laugh when I hear Russian hockey talk about how Canada has no skills in hockey.... OK well...So we beat Team Russia last year in the Olympics 7 to 3 with no skills!!. At least Canadian fans like myself can acknowledge that Russia has lots of skills, but cannot play physical....but Russian fans always have some excuse for losing to Canada whenever it's a best on best challenge...the refs, cheating, blah blah blah. I've watched Canada and Russia play for almost 40 years ..Cont.

If I didn't not anything about the "Cold War", all the lies told both ways, ..I love the National Anthem of the USSR, Russia or what ever you may want to call it. It sounds like it meant something, I love it not knowing what it means. The Canadian British or American Anthems, mean nothing to me for they are just words of "BULLSHIT" !!
But mostly I loved from the first time I saw them, the Russian players skating with a flow that I'd never seen before. We have closed the gap, but they R still #1!

@06Steven58 Yeah the best hockey team ever that went on to lose to Team Canada in the 84, 87 & 91 Canada Cups...plus the 72 series, 76 series... oh I almost forgot about the 2 gold medals out of 4 that Canada won since the olympics allowed pro players. The big red machine were really awesome when they played against amateurs (kids)...oh wait I forgot they lost to a bunch of kids in 1980 when the USA won the olympics.

The real funny thing is that in most of these hi-lights of russia scoring on Canada.... Canada won the eventual game/series. History is proof.... best on best... Canada has defeated team russia or soviet union more times than not...so it's not really an argument... Canada is the best....period.... Russians have good skills, but do not know how to play tough physical style, which ultimately is why Canada usually wins.

They were extremely good, but need to remember they used to play over 750 games together, and lived in a sport camp life most of the year. Only few times a year with a family. Basically not other life but hockey.

The competition between the Canadians and the Soviets (and Herb Brooks' 1980 team) all helped the game reach a level of nobility unequaled in team sports. I respect all those competitive warriors

The high level of Canadian hockey drove the Soviets and their desire to compete & become a hockey power. When the Soviets reached such a high level over a relativeley short period with their own style, the NHL/WHA new motivation to forget about the "business" of hockey and re-focus on the GAME of hockey. Greatness is constantly redefined by your most competitive opponent.

I don't like the N/American style, although we are learning some of the finer skills, that we never had back in the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's. We are getting better. But still cant compete with out the "Banging & Crashing", that the Officials seem to over look when it's done by us (NA).

At present there are 550,000 registered hockey players in Canada, 500, 000 in the U.S. Mother Russia . . . about 130, 000. Russia is no longer a dominant hockey power and this has been clearly illustrated in the Olympics and World Junior Championships. If Russia does not turn things around (like Canada had to do in the 80's and 90's) all they will have is rhetoric and not glory when the time for Sochi arrives.

I wish, we could have only 1% of the talent, enthusiasm and passion the Russians and Canadians have to this game, i´m german. It was a great final yesterday, with great players, but hockey has changed. No doubt, there will never be a better lineup than Fetisov, Kassatonov, Makarov, Larionov and Krutov, never ever. But that´s yesterday, today´s hockey was payed between the US and Canada in Vancouver, and this is the best right now, Canada and Russia own this game, be proud of it

Just the best team I ever saw. Playing rough to me was so primitve compared to Sovjet technique, teamplay, cunning, agility, speed. Always when I saw NHL hockey or Canada/USA on the Olympics I found it secondclass compared to the USSR. In Holland we played hockey when there was ice (in winter), but we are an icespeedskating country. I always loved Brazils footballskills and in Olympics, we had USSR as an equivalent in icehockey. Makarov, Tretjak, Larionov etc stellar players in an awesome team.

Think that through before you post on youtube please, Canadas best pros all played in the nhl while Russias back in the day stayed in the Russian league (the pros in this video actually). Nhl players wernt allowed in the Olympics tell 1998 in nageno and since then we won medals in 2003, 2004, 2007. Russia is a great hockey country as well, but its not fair to compare the two as these guys are clearly nhl caliber when canada just had amateurs

i like to see russians like malkin or ovechkin or even mogiliny who actually care about hockey, not a bunch of overpaid assholes like Yashin come over, the khl can have that douche. I dont think it matters where you come from as long as you have passion about the game your country can be good and i cant speak for russia but in canada everyone is born with a hockey stick in our hands

he only ever played for the money, he could have been great if he truly had passion for the game, instead he even missed a season due to contract disputes. He would have probably rebounded his bad 2 seasons in new york but his 87+ million dollar contract was the reason he never got a second chance.
