Guns can be used for protection, to be sure. But they are also so easily accessible as to be an enabler for crime. We need stronger limitations that will lead us gradually to a country without guns.

@Siema33 Indeed, the problem of actually rounding up all the guns and preventing the entry of new ones is a great one. To be honest, I'm not sure how to go about it. But with enough ingenuity and thought, perhaps we could find a way.

I'm actually living in a democratic country in Asia right now. Citizens don't have the right to bear arms here, and I feel perfectly safe walking around at night. And as a technological leader, this country is doing just fine.
