  • Elvis was lucky to have associated with such a fascinating and talented writer and musician. In my opinion this man is the greatest songwriter this world has ever seen, oh and by the way he is Canadian like me, very humbling.

  • Gordon Lightfoot is cool

  • amina koyim TV

  • I grew up in Vancouver and had a morning paper route (and it rained a lot) through early high school in the sixties. When I heard Early Mornin' Rain I wanted to sing it and learned guitar and music became a big part of my life. Gordon's music just crystallized feelings about Canada to me. Thank you, Gordon.

  • Gordon Lightfoot is incredible.

  • Truely an absolutely amazing man ,,,,,,,,,,, Mr. Gordon Lightfoot !

  • awesome! thankyou!

  • An amazing interview with an amazing man.

  • I live 2 streets away from him in Orillia. I have run in into him several times.

You could never meet a kinder and wiser man.

  • I still remember seeing Gordon in Redwood City, CA. in 1975, after listening to him all during college. What a great concert and what a great experience. Like so many great artists, Gordon Lightfoot has been a part of my life for 40 years and I still love his music. Thank you, Gordon, for so many wonderful songs over all these years. You've enriched my life.

  • If todays popular musical acts[i dare not call them musicians] had half the talent he has music today would be much better.I don't mean they all have to be like him. I have no problem with different kinds of music.i do however have a propblem with talentless hacks

  • ok so i have just discovered gordon lightfoot due to a song on trigger happy tv have now heard various tracks and love the music!!!!! thanks gordon!

  • I'm soory... If he was my DAD? I would so proud. A great man!

  • Epic!

    Canadian legend!

    Peace.

  • This mans songs are a big part of the soundtrack of my life. 71 years young and still going strong. I am blessed in the fact that along with Gordon Lightfoot many of the other artist that I liked in my teens are still going strong. Thank You Gordon for all the beautiful music over the years, it has made my life a little better and I appreciate that. I look forward to whatever music that you still have inside your soul.

  • I first saw Lightfoot way back in 1964 at the Riverboat in Yorkville. His music became a major influence as I struggled with the problems of youth. As I grew older it seemed Gordon's music evolved as did the times. I can proudly say that after all these years his music is still relevant and still ringing in the ears of those who are looking for hope and fighting their way upcurrent as we battle life's obstacles. Thank you Gordon and as the song goes, if you don't mind "I'll Tag Along".

  • I'm suprised he didn't mention "softly" as one of the songs he'd like to be remembered by. It's a beautiful song. The interviewer mentioned it though. And what about "Song for a winters night"???!!

  • Great interview. Thank you.

  • I have followed Lightfoot's career since his first American show at La Cave in Cleveland Ohio in 1962. This is a great interview with some insights into some of his songs which I had not heard before. Being a singer/songwriter myself, Lightfoot has been an influence on me for over 40 years. He is a living legend and we all should appreciate the fact that at 72 (this Nov), he is still out there writing and performing.

  • Endless Wire and his other albums got me through a divorce and a few other times of emotional stress. One of the great songwriters of all time.

  • Who's the other guy sitting there?

  • @Jitpring In the description it says " CBC host Jian Ghomeshi"

  • @edscerbo Not Jian. The bald guy.

  • @Jitpring Whoops! Sorry for the misunderstanding! Have to admit I only skimmed through the vid and didn't spot the guy you're talking about.

  • The interviewer annoyed me at first, but then he asked good questions and elicited some good stuff from the excellent Mr. Lightfoot.

  • jelinto ~ spot on. My husband and I paid for and saw this performer in a Buffalo, NY venu when he was not at his best...those were bad times for him. To this day, we hold no ill will and greatly appreciate all he's done and offered the music industry. and his fans. Yes, these folks are human and it is not a requirement for them to sign an autograph for you. Get over it and simply enjoy the talent!

  • @snerdwithoutducks Well it's certainly isn't wrong to ask now IS IT?

  • Thanks Gordon, for all the beautiful music you gave me, and i hope, will continue to give.

  • Gordie... Ilike you way, way better than any Beetles and you never claimed to be bigger than Jesus Christ that's why YOU still Rock and they don't! Luv you Gordie!

  • LEGEND !!! One of the finest musicians / song writters in the world , would love to see him live, you are awesome GL, you make me proud to be Canadian !!!!

  • A Living Legend indeed.

  • Lightfoot is touring now played Hamilton place last night ( Apr 14)

If people are selling autograghs on e-bay there wont be anymore

unless you are going to pay for them

  • 70 yrs and the fire is still burning!

  • great interview my friend you asked some great Q's Just to sit across from this icon was a chance of a lifetime

  • Great interview with such a fine artist and gentleman. Gordon has given us all so much enjoyment over the years and I hope he keeps going for many more to come. Thanks for posting this.

  • Jian, you're a very good interviewer. Gordon Lightfoot is extremely talented, to say the least. jian, you can see my drum playing with Linda Bonadies. go to: timandrew1

  • People gotta stop obsessing over celebrities. Nevermind autograph seeking & being intrusive. Just appreciate talent & have respect. These people owe you NOTHING! Anyone wondering what I'm going on about....just scroll down in the comments and see the posts by user name "hziegler". This man says Gordon Lightfoot refused to sign an autograph for his wife. Mr. Lightfoot had his reasons, but apparently it wasn't good enough. So, hziegler foolishly trashed his Lightfoot collection.

    Weirdo!

  • @jelinto Dude - That's weird. I saw Gordon Lightfoot play in Wisconsin in 1981. Met him backstage, talked with him for about 15-20 minutes. He signed a personal autograph without any hesitation. GREAT GUY behind stage!!!

  • @jelinto As I've always said, entertainers are not our personal friends. They're there to entertain us and draw us away from the stresses of our lives. I'm seeing this legendary singer in person in October and that alone will make me happy. There are plenty of autographs on the market to purchase if one wants one. Just do your homework on identifying the authenticity of it.

  • haha Orillia Ontario! home sweet home gordie!

    proud to be orillian!

  • i hope i look dat good at the age of 70

  • This guy has been amazing through the years. He's one singer you just don't get sick of hearing. Interesring though. He's one singer who's speaking voice you'd never associate with his singing voice.

  • I have had the luck to meet with Gord at a few of his shows, and he has always been gracious enough to meet fans every single time.He is truly a one of a kind, genius that sets such a high standard with his product,it has to be perfect, for him. Thanks for saying hello Gord. Joe P

  • Great interview, Gordon is truly a legend.

I live close to Whitefish Point and have always loved his song.

    Thanks for posting.

    5 *****s1

  • LEGEND!

  • i love him and his music

  • i'd marry him and run off to canada in a heartbeat

  • I LOVE Gordan my grandma taught him at his school in Orilla On where he grew up he is amazing and all you haters you suck who cares its one damn autograph its not like miley cyrus didn't want to sign an autograph gordan is known world wide I love him and so dose my family

  • George Harrison said once in the Beatles Anthology interview :" People think they has given love to the Beatles and the Beatles gave them not only their music but their entire nervous system that is somethin' more y'know...

  • hziegler, god you really are a mean son of a bitch! I would like to hear you sing like him. He's 70 years old what do you expect out of a guy that age? Your profile says 49??? You sure your not 4 and miss typed the 9??? All I can say to you is that your one big loser and I hope you die!!! How do you like that one???

  • He's a jerk because he didn't want to sign an autograph...? And you still hold resentment from 10+ years ago. Your life must be so pathetic. Maybe he had to take a shit or something...get over it you fucking loser

  • Fun interview....I, too, have been a fan for 42 years......the man has a way with words; a rough life with lots of inspiration to many people.......amazing the ownership some people assume; if he chooses no autographs, so be it. He gives in other ways, and more power to him!

  • Shut your belligerent trap, you vile piece of shit! Go mope elsewhere, and let us appreciate the genius of one of the greatest songwriters in the history of music.

  • WOW you must be a very happy person. Was Gord fucking your wife??? You seem to have a real personal isue with him.

  • HUH??! I dig Gordon. What in the world are you talking about??

  • I thought you were writing about Gords wife. I guess you were responding to a comment from hziegler. I can't see what he wrote. My mistake "SORRY"

  • I think that is pretty uncaring towards a fan, not giving an autograph, but there is no denying the fact that he is a true musical Icon and a unique and brilliant Songwriter

  • Comment removed

  • @hziegler Wow what a jerk you are to imply in some way that because you're poor wife didn't get an autograph (like you're entitled) that diminishes all the great music Lightfoot has contributed in his long career. I don't get it. We are only spectators as we appreciate the music he has given to the world. Perhaps you should stop being so petty and selfish, sit back and just enjoy this wonderful Canadian artist because talent like this may not come along again in our lifetime.

  • This is just wonderful. No showbiz poo. A pretty humble guy and an excellent interviewer. A rare joy to get this kind of conversation and hear someone who has accomplished what Gordon Lightfoot has.

  • one of the best songwriters ever...and the voice is sooooooo pure and amazing....

  • i just love the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald...but can't remember all the words... ;)....should try harder....

  • . . a kegend I've been doing Edmand Fitzgerald for a while and I always have to make new words. . I guess he gets 'em right cuz he wrote 'em.

  • the guy is just absolutely amazing

  • I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old. I got my chops playing GL songs. I am 42 now and still playing his songs. I'd love too see him in concert and, dare I say, meet him. Truly a legend.

  • I actually DID have the chance to meet Gordon Lightfoot on the street here in Toronto. Iwas so starstruck that I could hardly speak to him !

  • GL thrills me..!.. i was born in the states but after a few years my folks brought us to live in southamerica.. GL took me home and to my best memories everytime I heard him on the radio... and now , in my 40's GL opens my soul and gives me incredible moments of real sense & true love. He's amazing

  • this is one of my most favorite singer of all time !

  • Very few artists in history has had such a huge backlog of songs as Gordon Lightfoot. I was introduced to his music as a kid in the 60s when kids my age were rocking...I heard and appriciated and discovered that songwriting and performing your own work was an art form. GL is a master of this art..he continues to prove to me that he has been blessed with a talent that he is sharing to the world. Thank you Gordon for the wonder that keeps life interesting.

  • M.J. is dead and is not dancing- or grabbing his crotch-

he is dead--- Only Jesus arose in three days - M.J. is not god--- Gordon Lightfoot , is a saint!

  • Saw Gordon in Concert last week in Rochester Hills Michigan, this is My 2nd time seeing Gordon in Concert, and What a Show. See you next Year Gordon!!

  • I love you Gordon. I've seen you in concert 3x. Still miss seeing you play in your long johns! :)

  • He's an absolute craftsman, and legend.

  • I was totally joking, GD is a classic artist who I've loved 42 years.

  • I've been a fan of GL since 'Read my Mind'(1970-ish), saw him live in the UK at the Royal Albert Hall and again at the Liverpool Empire. Magical stuff. Still think he's terrific.

  • Gordon is an extraordinary poet/ master of words. I am amazed at how much different his singing voice is from his singing voice.

  • wow, what a great interview, it always goes best when the intervewer knows the subject matter. very enjoyable!!!!!!

  • Mr Lightfoot, would you please consider coming to Conn in your 2010 tour ?

Either the Oakdale or the Bushnell would be great.

    Carl Slicer, Vernon, CT

  • See you in Sault ste Marie on Saturday Gordo!! Woot Woot! Your the Man!

  • Great interview with a truly legendary songwriter. Can't believe how his voice is holding up at 70. (too bad Jian had to waste valuable interview time on supposed musicians Billy Bob and that halloween clown, Chaim Witz - what a contrast)

  • glad i came to see the billy bob video [he's just insecure] only so that i could stumble across this great interview.

  • What a fantastic man, and Jian, another thumbs up, great job.

  • Great to hear a musician who is wonderfully HUMBLE (unlike some people Gian interviews)! Thank you Mr. Lightfoot! And thank you Gian Ghomeshi!

  • Wow. What a great f***ing interview. Thanks!

  • Terrific interview with a legend who is gracious and humble. A real pleasure to watch and hear Lightfoot open up and let us in like he did. He must have felt very comfortable with Jian.

  • What talent, i was very much influenced by this man - started listening way back in 1969 - Thanks Gordon.
