If they master enrichment and can make the purity required for atomic weaponry then that alone is at _least_ one third of the difficulty of making the bomb. Think about what would be their motive to use a nuclear bomb IF they ever develop one, and who they would use it on without severe retaliation.

The Patriot Act was drafted by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their advising panel. The democrats didn't "push" for it at all, they simply helped vote it into law... though it is disappointing that the act hasn't been amended or repealed by the Obama Administration.

The revealing piece of this interview is Hitchens' answer to Iran/nuclear weapons. Why would the Israelis feel compelled to ask permission of the USA to save themselves from a nuclear-armed Iran? Fuck that! Pre-emptive strike is the only way to go. Why would the USA "deny" this right to Israel? Certainly if Iran was pointing nuclear missiles at us, we would shoot them first. Or would we? I've heard people say we should wait to be bombed first before retaliating. Idiots! Bomb them now.

You didn't answer my question. North Korea already has the bomb. That is something we do know. They've tested it. They are a much bigger threat, and a more viable and capable military. They can launch an attack on us, or at least on our interests - today - if they wanted to. And they are led by a raving, evil, unpredictable lunatic. Why don't we invade them? @kossmikham I don't know one way or the other, and I've heard they have a legit reason for having them, but Iran does have uranium enrichment devices. If they master enrichment and can make the purity required for atomic weaponry then that alone is at _least_ one third of the difficulty of making the bomb. They were also hiding some of the devices, and the supreme leader of Iran is kind of shady.

Iran's leaders my be a lot of things, but they're not stupid. Not that it would take a genius to realize that you cannot survive the immediate retaliation brought on by a nuclear attack on any country.
