Where do most people buy their colors? I havent found any better than the ones at the website called CAKEMOLDINGS (and cheaper for that matter) but was thinking of trying something new.
gumpaste is edible but doesn't taste as good as the frosting but it tastes ok the dust is also edible. I think if they are going to go through the trouble if making the flowers they would be edible or they would probably buy real ones instead. I hope this helps and be careful you don't get addicted to making cakes lol
you can buy pre-made gum paste or gum paste mixes or you can make it yourself.
Mixes (like Wilton's Gum Paste Mix) are 'just add water' type mixes, very easy to use. If you Google 'gum paste recipe' you will see almost as many recipes for gum paste as there are artists. Wilton also has a product called 'Gumtex' which is used to make the gum paste pliable/easy to work with. On the tub there is a recipe for gum paste, listing all the ingredients you need to have, which is why I like using it.
Floral wrap/florist tape is the tape that is used on flowers in a floral arrangement/corsage. Anything requiring floral wire needs floral tape to make the wire look more natural. You can find it at most hobby/craft stores, and it comes in a variety of colors & sizes. It's not like sticky tape; you must stretch it to make it adhere to itself. Search Youtube for video showing how best to use this nifty product. It's easier to use than it looks, but describing the technique is tricky.

how come when my gum paste starts to dry it cracks?
sweedykinz 3 years ago
Maybe because you're adding to much powdered sugar/cornstarch when kneading/rolling your gum paste.

did you make this sugar gum paste ? or did you buy it ?
When I was in pastry school we used "fondant" , which we bought. This gum paste I've never heard of, but it looks quite interesting to work with.
