It sounds a little similar, but to be honest I would never have noticed +Cheryl's song is ina different key.

As far as I know nobody went mental when Madonna used Abba's 'Gimme Gimme Gimme'' tune in her introduction to 'Hung Up' and that was obviously the same song. And Rhianna also used the tune from one of Michael Jackson's songs in 'Please Don't Stop The Music'. Those are two obvious examples and Cheryl's is not obviously ripped from this song. People just want to make something from nothing

Your point actually works against the song though, I actually love both songs but it does bear a striking resemblance and there's a difference between stealing a melody and trying not to make it obvious such as what we're accusing the songwriters of fight for this love of, and actually just sampling a song, such as in hung up or please don't stop the music, where the artist sampling will actually pay the people who own the rights to the original.

How does my point work against the song? Obviously you observed the fact that I can't see what's the big deal. As I said, the songs are similar but I really don't think it's anythng to get over-excited about. In this day + age songs are going to sound similar,particularly as stars tend to conform to certain genres of music (Ne-yo and Akon songs sound the same to me!) I take your point on the sampling though, fair enough. But honestly, I don't see what the fuss is about, they aren't THAT similar.
