Some of you seem to be confused between "fame" and "success". The music business is extremely fickle. Just because you wrote a semi-hit song once, or met/collaborated with a successful artist, or even had a record contract once DOESN'T mean "you've made it". Obviously, if any of these contestants had "made it" we would not need to Google them to know who they are, nor would they need a show like The Voice, etc.
At first I was bothered by the Voice allowing people on that had previous record deals etc. However, I think they do deserve a second chance. I mean how come someone like Selena Gomez gets a song and radio play when there are clearly other singers who are better? And established artists keep getting played even if they make a crappy song. But I guess that's what people want.
Unlike American Idol, The Voice is about finding the BEST voice in America. That's why some of them already have some singles, EP's, or little record deals.

Quite a few of the contestants on the voice have had record deals. It's not American Idol. It's a different show altogether. And in what rule book does it say you have to be an amateur? Last season was no different from this one.
I like her, but i think that being she has already had a contract with a record company, has had the exposer and "a start" failed or not... she has an unfair advantage. My opinion (and only an opinion) is the contests should not qualify if they have ever had a record deal. She is very good though, but still think it's not fair. Good luck any way Angel!

The people on the show are looking to turn their music into careers....and that's what the show is about .... not just virgin artists looking for a start.

When you've been dropped from a label, it can be difficult to get picked up by another one. If that's what happened to Angel, then it makes perfect sense for her to go on The Voice. At any rate, I love this song and Angel's music in general, and hope she does well on The Voice :]
I was shocked to see her on The Voice too. I thought she did well with this single and the album it was on. I guess she didn't have "what it takes" to get signed again.
I saw her on the voice and was like ohmygoodness that's Angel Taylor! My brother was like Who? I said the girl who sings Chai Tea Latte. I was so happy Adam Turned around because I think he'll understand her stylistically. I still don't get why she's on it but you know anything to help her fulfill her dreams. I thought she was pretty well known already but I guess not. I just really like her.

The Voice is for people that are generally well known, but they need that extra coaching to help take them to the next level. Great question! Alot of people don't realize how hard it is to make it to the top!

@Jaimi209 No, several people on The Voice last year had record deals in the past, including Javier Colon...but for whatever reason, they never made it big in the industry. I mean, there's Xfactor and American Idol for people who are brand new. I think the concept is cool because the industry keeps feeding us the same ol' people so this is a way for talent drowned out by the same ol' singers already in the business.

The rules clearly state that you are allowed to audition and take part with or without a previous or current obligation to a record label or distribution company.
I can't believe she's on the Voice! When I saw her I was like "holy crap that's Angel Taylor!!" haha...i loved her even before she was on the show and i hope it brings her even more success

I'd rather see a show full of fresh talent that might not have been famous without the show instead of people that had record deals and could probably get another one (like Angel)

I'm am in no way saying Angel falls into that category (I'm a fan, remember) but my point was that we had a chance to buy their music before, and didn't....so they should give a chance to someone that might actually be successful.

@redvamp22 my logic is not that they shouldn't get another chance, my logic is that they should take the spot on a TV show after they've already failed and others never got their opportunity. It's a waste of money on people that nobody wants to hear from (again...not everyone falls into this category) There are only so many spots and they've had a chance to get big and failed. Find another route.

Music doesn't have a color, that much is true. However certain kinds of music is marketed towards certain people. If you don't believe me, then just listen to the radio. Why are some artists of a particular color are played on certain radio stations and some are not? @Shanebabys

The whole process is very difficult to go through I know people who have actually tried out. @privacym Exactly! Did NBC think we wouldn't notice this? The Voice, as entertaining as it can be, needs to have more integrity. This happened last year. The contestant Dia Frampton, was already apart of a band with her sister called Meg & Dia. They were already professional recording artists too.

@haileybad it's to give artist who didn't make it a chance to actually get a break in the industry. Last season half of the contestants were already signed to a label but either got dropped (Dia, Javier) or just didn't get their break.

@afroindia42 I agree with you also, but if someone puts out 4 songs before the show, and nobody bought them...it seems like a waste of money to invest in singers that obviously don't have whatever is needed to be a superstar. I'm am in no way saying Angel falls into that category (I'm a fan, remember) but my point was that we had a chance to buy their music before, and didn't....so they should give a chance to someone that might actually be successful.

It's a waste of money on people that nobody wants to hear from (again...not everyone falls into this category) There are only so many spots and they've had a chance to get big and failed. Find another route.

I don't even know you but I will be arrogant enough to say, I'm sure you can name at least 1 current artist with lackluster talent but is selling records like hotcakes because they're marketed well. How is that fair to the artists who have the goods? Like I said, there are 4 other shows where people who haven't had deals fall through...

It's a defeatist attitude. I'm saying that the producers of shows like these shouldn't invest money in failed careers, just like you wouldn't buy a car that has been in 4 accidents. It makes BUSINESS sense to invest in new talent and THEN market them to the public, rather than invest money that has little chance to earn itself back. That's all.

If the record companies aren't marketing properly, then they are the ones wasting money but again doesn't mean a talent shouldn't try to go else where, make another deal and try again! It doesn't matter if she got dropped, its kinda suspicious that she out of many other great singers who auditioned got picked. The whole process is very difficult to go through I know people who have actually tried out. Most likely she was picked because of her STATUS as a recording artist. goes to show you have to have connections to make it in the music business.

@haileybad it's to give artist who didn't make it a chance to actually get a break in the industry. Last season half of the contestants were already signed to a label but either got dropped (Dia, Javier) or just didn't get their break.
