This was my lullaby when I was a baby. Both of my parents would sing this to me and my other siblings. Dad would play this on his harmonica if we asked him to, this and other songs.
My parents are divorced now. Dad sold his harmonica. This is really the only place I can hear this now.
I haven't seen my dad in over a year. I have had to deal with my step-dad for nearly 3 years. I miss my real dad. Whenever I hear this tune, I remember being little and everything was right.
Yes quite beautiful. This may be off subject but look for a video on the B Radical Harmonicas. There are a few documentaries on those guys. Anyway, one of them has a 90 year old man coming in to buy a harmonica for himself. Just shows that no matter how old you are, you're never too old for the harmonica. Oh and I think that 90 year old has been playing since he was around 10. That's 80 years of playing! Thanks again for the music!
I dont suppose you could tell me the tabs holes for this version because i have learnt another version and it sounds no where near as good as this one =]
Im trying to learn this song because its my grand parents favourite song on the harmonica (My grand father used to play), My grand father had a stroke a little while ago and iv been saving for him to visit me (Iv not seen him in 7 years) and he doesn't know iv been learning the harmonica (Only for two weeks now) and i want to surprise him, im just having trouble with the second half of the song :(. But when you play it i can follow it and its beautiful its the only one that works for me. :)
Well, it sure ain't the Red River of the North - through Fargo, Grand Forks and Winnipeg, Manitoba. They're sand-bagging against the flood as we speak!
I was crying when i heard this song right know. *crys more* Can you make the full song for me. me and my best friend ( who died in a car crash 1 year ago) We used to play this on our recorders and sing with each other this song. It would mean a lot to me.
khlnm, I started playing when I got into my dads drawer of treasures and would go up in the fields to play. No one new I could play for a long time. When I did it just blew everyone away. My family all played bluegrass. I was about 12 when I started and I am 53 now. It was beautiful to listen to your crisp haunting notes. My parents are gone now but your music brought it all back including my dads drawer of treasures. Thanks again very much.
your wonderful... It shows that we should enjoy what we enjoy to the last minute and you can tell you enjoy your harp as your heart sure shows in your music...

Love, love, love your playing.... have always loved anything played on the harmonica.
There's just one problem with this video!!! It wasn't long enough!!! Anyway, thank
you for allowing the world to listen to your playing some of the "old" standards.
I'm curious as to what you think about Huey Lewis on the harmonica??? Here
on YouTube type in.... Huey Lewis harmonica solo.... and let me/us know what you think. Thanks again, Mr. Kyong, have a wonderful day!!!!

That's not the Red River Valley. But it's a pretty desert.

WSMx, I believe it is the version of the Red River Valley that is also occasionally known as the "Cowboy Love Song".
There are many versions at various speeds and even with different lyrics. Perhaps you have heard another version?
