But how do you control whether it moves in the blue, green or red direction. I've found no explanation as to how you control what axis you're moving on.
@anelphabet i want a parallel line so far apart from another line, how do i put in the exact measurements (the option to write them in the measurement box is not showing up)
I wish I could change the dimension to the value I want and have the model change. I do not want to sit there dragging things around all day. I want to sketch my geometry then enter the dimensions I want and it changes to them to active constraints. This is how real CAD programs (i.e. SolidWorks) work.
GOOGLE SKETCHUP IS SOFA KING WE TAR DID. I cant manually type dimensions in to change the size of an object, I cant move that object without selecting it all first or it distorts one plane, I cant have one object contact another without them becoming one. The whole thing is cancer and should be terminated, scrapped, burned, and buried. Start all over guys, you aren't doing anything ground breaking or intuitive! I'd rather put up with Autodesk bloat, at least its usable!
@ldog922000 - Measure one item in your model using the Tape Measure tool. Divide that number into the desired length. The result - scale x - is what you need to scale your model to. Unhide All, open every Layer then select all. Select scale and type in scale x in the box at the bottom of the page that should now say Scale next to it. Press Enter.
@apsarajet Thanks! I was just looking around these sketchup-videos to find something about this and was hoping there was an in-built feature, but of course the steps you describe do pretty much the same job =)
hi...i need help plz.....my drawings on sketchup have a wierd scale......when i give the height of a buildind say about 3 meters the height is very small and negligible......it doesent look like its 3 metres but 3mm......if anyone knows how to set the scale on a sketchup drawing plz help.
I enjoyed the tutorial. I've imported a lot of SketchUp objects to my projects in Live Interior 3D. You can see some walkthroughs of my projects on my page.
In what sane CAD program does typing in a dimension change the displayed value, but not the actual dimension?! It is still like this by the way, three years later - and I could find no other way to specify a dimension exactly.
I think that there's also no way to specify dimensions symbolically, so if you make lots of things and get it wrong (e.g. the height of doors) you have to go back and change them all manually.
I also found this incredibly irritating and time consuming. what's the point of google sketchup? you can't draw in measurements, it's a play tool only. Looks "cool"? Stoopid.
how do you draw with measurement in the first place? like in autocad?

You need a suitable hobby. Finger painting perhaps.

is there a way to type in dimensions and have the model scale to it rather than having to set dimensions then adjust the model manually?

I definitely agree. Apple and Microsoft are successful through attrition, while google is successful because they come up with great stuff

@deirup510 google didn't make sketchup, they bought the software company and sketchup along with it

Behaviour is completely wrong (at timestamp 2.00).
Upper part should follow the model change in depth!
Otherwise everybody would manufacture the part still the same.
Think about it!
