  • This place gives me the creeps. Nothing human here.

  • london needs a really damn tll bulding

  • @Rocktecho why? A 'damn tll building' would be out of context with its surrounding buildings.

  • I much prefer the city to Canary Wharf. The Square mile's full of visionary and ground breaking highrises, Canary Wharf just imitates crappy American skyscrapers that are essentially glorified glass boxes.

  • Frankfurt probably edges London on having the best skyline in europe although london has lots of buildings or skyscrapers around the city like the 'Ghrekin' for example which is either fantastic or horrible to look at, just like actual ghrekins! Places like Paris, Rome and Barcelona strive on historic architecture but places like New York and Tokyo for example are well known for their more modern approach to their infrastructure, London is in the middle; which probably makes it what it is!

  • London is by far and away the world's financial centre of the world. Even larger in reality than New York.

  • Liverpool all the way !!

  • Wonderful and the best documentary

  • thats beutiful 4 LONDON HA HA

  • london is a shithole

  • The music in this is wonderful - does anyone know the name of the soundtrack/score ?

  • frankfurt has way more and way higher skyscrapers...

  • @TheLegendOfTroll Frankfurt does not have more or higher skyscrapers...You do realise canary wharf is not the only skyscrapers in London? There are much more in the city, and the shard london bridge is the tallest building in europe...Frankfurt is full of mid 80s crap

  • @will101page ehhhh no... look on wikipedia...frankfurt has the most and highest skyscrapers in the european union...and at least frankfurt is a real skyscraper city and not like shitty london with a few skyscrapers in the one corner and a few more a few kilometers away in the other corner, no density...and look at canary wharf...all just boxy buildings...

frankfurts is a million times better then your shitty rainy london

  • @TheLegendOfTroll aww whats wrong? Somebody jealous of London being the greatest city of the world? lol, London is financial capital, and has much more skyscrapers than shitty frankfurt. Look on wikipedia, u will see that the shard of glass under construction in london is 310m, tallest in europe, frankfurts tallest is 259m. London has loads of 200m+ under construction, canary wharf is not even the main cluster of skyscrapers, the city of london is. Google Bishopsgate tower, you will be impressed

  • @TheLegendOfTroll London not dense? hahaha drugs are bad kid

  • @TheLegendOfTroll London is simply the greatest city in the world. I am half american and I have lived in NYC and London is the best city in the world, i have traveled EVERYWHERE including shitty frankfurt

  • @will101page and what makes london so great? the shitty weather or the boring queen? london is a disgusting shithole

  • @TheLegendOfTroll What an ignorant comment, what are you a kid? There is more to see and do in London than anywhere else, and it is by far the most exiting city in the world, more so than NYC. London is beautiful, the weather is not that bad, And it is the greatest city in the world, i have traveled everywhere. All the history and culture, food, shopping and beautiful architecture in one city, Plus, its financial capital of the world, I would not post comments like that without visiting london

  • @will101page you clearly dont know what you are talking about...finacial capital of the world? frankfurt is the seat of the european central bank and the frankfurt stock exchange merged with the new yorker nasdaq and is now with new york the financial capital of the world you stupid moron. look on google for pictures of frankfurt skyline and london skyline....you will see that frankfurt has higher and waaaaay more skyscrapers...and they look better...not that boxy and boring like london

  • @TheLegendOfTroll in actual fact, London has more skyscrapers than Frankfurt, and more under construction. And canary wharf is only one of London's skylines, the city is the other main one, an there are other smaller ones across the city. and London is the largest financial centre in the world, just ahead of New York (slightly). plus, London is one of just two alpha++ cities in the world, Frankfurt is far behind London in every aspect of being a city (apart from skyline maybe, that's quite nice)

  • @GanzZulu frankfurt is the financial centre of europe...and has the most impressive skyline in europe...hands down

  • @TheLegendOfTroll look, london's the financial capital of europe, and the world alongside new york. those are FACTS. do you know what FACTS are? its when something is actually ture instead of pure bullshit, like you sprout out of your retarded mouth. london has 12 skyscrapers, frankfurt has 10. and london is building a lot more at the moment. have you been to london? i dont think you have. youre obviously jelous that frankfurt is a third tier city and could never be as good as london.

  • @GanzZulu BULLSHIT!!!

  • @TheLegendOfTroll no it isnt, its fact. thats why thats all you said, because you know its true and you cant hack it. i assume you troll on all kinds of videos, but you have been defeated. i have won. accept you have been beaten by the the master, you have been crushed under the weight of my argument.

  • @TheLegendOfTroll are you serious... so Frankfurt skyline is better than that of Paris or London ? and New York and London are the financial capitals of the world no argument.

  • theres nothing very grand about polgate, theres nothing very beautiful about polgate, but its my home town and i like it, SO GO FUCK YOURSELVES

  • @MrAlexino1 You can see it from Greenwhich too. And the Dartford Bridge. Dartford isn't even in London :P

  • You see the tallest building in the middle? Well I own that.

  • Dimbleby is absolutely bang on the money here. Polegate is magnificent. It makes Canary Wharf look like an embarassment. Small wonder the world's elite flock to Polegate to make their fortunes. Make no mistake, Polegate will soon be the centre of the financial world, and New York little more than a clown with shit shoes on.

  • im proud 2 be from london

  • @waveysoap And you should be you sweet, sweet water vole.

  • @HitMeQuick is that meant to be a compliment

  • @waveysoap Absolutely. Have a super week.

  • London > NYC

NYC is too yuppy and touristy now. Not that that's a bad thing, but it has really lost its edge.

  • i am from the us and we owe our western culture mainly to europe and england in particular. i think this video is amazing. the way the skyline is shown at 1:03 - 2:00. inspiring, really, that a city with so much history, can also be as modern as it is.

  • I like british accent! ^_^

  • 3:24 'most of us live somewhere like this' have you forgotten about all the unfortunate buggars living in council estates and tower blocks in south and east london, same goes for any other inner city area, you have to be fucking wealthy in today's world to afford a nice little cottage in the countryside. What a fucking prick.

  • @MrQ8center actually that's two, you dickhead.

  • @MrQ8center that's two words fuck face. Here's one word for ya: London

  • How do I find the song played in first few minutes??

  • One of the best documentary endings ever....It truly makes you appreciate being British and living in London - the greatest capital on earth!

  • @jamesfournier1991 ever wondered why? if not, you can simply thank the rothschilds for it!

  • hello

what is the name of the music played in the first few minutes of this segment of this part of fhe video?

    Thanks

  • Amazing to think that was once a run down slummy area.....

  • London is NOTHING compared to Leeds. We are the centre of the world!

  • WORSHIPER OF THE ILLUMINATIS.......

  • 2:30 ufo top right?

  • @MegaOro123 A plane from City Airport, a couple of miles away seems more likely

  • no dought it's better than NEW york

  • Canary Wharf is amazing I went into 1 Canada Square or Canary Wharf Tower, I went with my Dad, He works on the 46 floor the view is astonishing, just Breath-Taking.I couldn't believe the view.

  • fake

  • does anyone know the song at 1:08???????????

  • @ROULERS1 It isn't public music, it's used by editors like myself and is owned by a stock music dealer, PM me, I'll see if I can send it to you.

  • @DeadDaisyProductions can you send it to me to pls

  • @T4terrible sure, private message me your email addy

  • @ROULERS1 escape by craig armsong

  • @spillthedavids thanks!!! :D

  • @ROULERS1 No problem

  • I like London's random network of roads and buildings built where they will look best. New York just puts buildings in grids, boring.

  • Very nice footages! Congrats BBC!!

  • we stayed at the Ramada(nice) right on the thames river, then went into Canary Wharf and London via tube, even though we went at Christmas(to see a concert) and it was cold but it was fun and memorable anyway.(american tourist)

  • london knows where to build they plan and choose a specific place unlike newyork they placed random buildings everywhere which is ugly

  • 5:35 - SOPLICA!!!

  • love this place! :D

  • i worked on the roofs of some of those buildings when they were being built 36 floors up scary stuff, the view was brilliant though. was there around the time of 9/11 and with city airport so close was even worse!

  • its nice because its simple

  • I like canary wharf. i've always had a thing for pretty office buildings :)

  • @Caroline2711 ...Especially when I work peaceably in them.

  • To: Caroline2711. Especially when I work peaceably in them.

  • @Caroline2711 HI CAROLINE

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO GO UP TO THE OFFICE JOBS AND WHAT OTHER WORKS ARE THERE AT THE TOP

  • Nothing very beautiful about Polegate"? I disagree. Looks very charming, well-built and substantial even if a bit disorganized. Reminds me a little of New England towns. I like it. It's middle class suburban England as most of us Americans like to envision it.

  • @DFDalton1962 i live near polegate. Some part is nice & then there is an estate that is a bit pikeyfied, but its probably the nicest part of eastbourne/eastsussex. then again, everywhere you go there will always be a part that's rough.

  • Ultimately theres no point to this docummentary, some people like inner city living, a lot don't but like to be able to access a core centre for work and or entertainment. It goes without saying. This documentary is about 30yrs too early, perhaps when there is actually a substantial collection of tall buildings just for a metropolis of this size, it may be worth glorifying them.

  • @atraherne Clearly you fail to appreciate the history of the Docklands and why its transformation is amazing. Especially in context of the centre of London and how it lost its crown to the east of London, known for its deprived areas.

  • A lot of drama over a few average towers, wait, "mini manhatten" as if the rest of the world, or America for that matter was void of them.

Why is he then going into suburbia and comparing it to an office district?

Yeah, at current times most people prefer suburbern housing, whether that be suburbia within a big metropolis, or slightly more isolated (lets not forget this is Britain, most places have a large radious population even if you are living in a small town on the south coast.

  • @atraherne @atraherne Clearly you fail to appreciate the history of the Docklands and why its transformation is amazing. Especially in context of the centre of London and how it lost its crown to the east of London, known for its deprived areas.

  • @erzan Clearly you do appreciate them. I think you need to get out more, if a bunch of average buildings that home the banks that drove the country into major debt and deprivation excites you and feeds your soul / ego with joy then good luck to you.

  • i live in london and to all those people who are saying its amazing.. it REALLY isnt its just a littered horrible place with stupid people walking around.

  • @AaMz112 depends on where you live, if you live in poor areas you will end up with rude and ignorant foreigners. London is a huge city so basically you can't criticise the whole as bad because of one place. Places like Chelsea, Kensington, Hammersmith, Fulham, Westminster, and Greenwich boroughs are nice to live, but they may be expensive too. Most people live in these boroughs are middle class people. Same thing in New York, South Bronx can be a rough place to live, but Manhattan is fantastic.

  • @AaMz112 grumpy old person:P

  • @AaMz112

depends on what part - i also live in london, some places are amazing (like canary wharf) while others aren't just as amazing

  • @omgodsword i lived in NW10 and loved it so much.

  • Nice place to be, very friendly people; thank you London!

  • @everton777 not really, most T.V presenters are old and grey but if you go down to central london its mostly buisnessmen, cops, adults and teenagers

  • Comment removed

  • @762SLR762 hallelujah, some knows what they are talking about

  • So many bloody old people in England! And all wear grey!

  • @everton777

you're American, why am i not surprised? would you expect young people to work in the business district of london? fucking retard...

  • what is the name of the music in this segment, I would like to get it, thanks.

  • HA ha if i saw this guy in the streets i would be like hey its the guy from question time what a legend

  • Comment removed

  • Documentaries are a lot more epic in England

  • Bloody Canary Wharf... I work there and I hate it

  • Comment removed

  • @marmiusic yes but London dosen't have the sufficient subsoils to cater for tall builds, and the american cities are modern and were in need of that architecture.

  • @marmiusic true but thank god london won the olympics because now atleast the goverment is spending money moderining london which it woudnt have done with it there area few skyscapers cuming up such as the shard which is 1,017 and the pinnacle which is the second tallest in london which would be 288mt there are several more such as a building called the heron tower and cheese greater look on google

  • @marmiusic ? whats height got to do with a good looking building or a skyline?

  • @MrJascol i am sorry that was my littel brother hes 8

  • @marmiusic

your point is? dubai has got by far the biggest buildings in the world does that make it better?

  • @JoshRobertson142 my brother wrot that i dont know why

  • @marmiusic we know, but for us brits its exciting cus they're all we have:P and london has a special feel about it, where new meets old. we are getting the tallest in europe soon:)

  • @marmiusic and just cus your cities have taller buildings doesn't mean they are better:P

  • Very, very lovely ... especially seeing Polegate. It's nice that you (in the UK) still use masonary in new construction, and haven't resorted to the horrible construction practice in the USA of using vinyl siding (PVC) to build your homes.

  • @rememberingmargaret new york pretty nice, canary wharf looks like down down manhatten

  • @rememberingmargaret is that wood? cus thats maybe why the houses fall down in the hurricanes.

  • @1234567loading it a piece of beutiful acritecture to represent britain being pushed into the 21st century, no new world order, just the same old twats telling us what to do

  • can you visit it? and get to the top?? :D

  • @chamillaire3

nah it's all business stuff, but you might be able to.

  • Thankfully Londons very careful about where skyscrapers are placed. Nobody cares if new buildings are added to Canary Wharf because there aren't any major historical sites too close except over in Greenwich. You'll never see a large skyscraper built in Westminster thankfully.

  • london is the best =D

  • London is one of my favourite city's

  • hope london turns into a manhatten style, but with the charm of london, you know brand new stupidly tall builidings but then stuff like st pauls pops up, you know what makes london london, but if more buildings like wharf go up, it's only positive!

  • @boltjet135 No not manhattan style, London style. Shard London bridge.

  • @hurro67 new york is cool, but the shard fits in very well with london, has construction stopped or somethin cos it dosn't seem to be goin up, the shard that is

  • @boltjet135 The shards gone up alot, i think its coming up to half way.

  • @hurro67 is that just the core or the floors included, is ment for complition in 2012 or somethin

  • @boltjet135 thats the floors, but not the glass outer layer. The whole building is a "shard of glass". It's 23ft taller than the eiffel tower. It will be the tallest building in Europe and i think the 27th tallest in the world :)

  • @peacefrogism I dont want to learn history, make me.

  • I dont think so......maybe you need to

  • Without London, there is no life.......a man thinks London is boring his life is boring, countries like the US wouldnt have been if for England, we discovered this world!

  • @Arurnal no life? when north america was invaded we started to erase life here, our cities and populations only destroy life.

  • only 3 mins abt Canary Wharf? :O wth!

  • I only live 5 mins from Polegate, it's boring.. and crap :P

  • Fuck polgate, i want more canary wharf!

  • london is lushhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • London was awsome, now its called lononistan

  • @kirkie1210 true that.

  • 'a triumph of energy and efficiency'.

    But not energy efficiency.

    Great place

  • "arrogant buildings, thrusting themselves on us" dirty slutty buildings

  • Name of the song 1:04:

    CRAIG ARMSTRONG - ESCAPE

    Greetings from Lodz in Poland

    PS

    London... fantastic

  • love this city <3

  • i will never forget the day that bomb went off though i was only lik 5 remember the noise till this day. but i hope people dont think things are posh down there cause its not canary wharfs like a posh oasis in the middle of it all but i guess they are doing a good job fixing up the best but most ghetto part of London, EAST with the olympic site coming, stratford city to be another canary wharf type thing a few miles north fixing up canning town also things r changin nuff round ere.

    E14, E8, E5!

  • it seems weird how things have changed without even noticing, born in homerton but raised in my early years in isle of dogs nan lived in poplar so both our homes were on both sides of canary wharf but back then it was only canary wharf standing when i moved back to hackney two more were starting to go up HSBC n the other 1 the thing is the area is really poor and its like an island of posh buisness in the middle of it all n i think they gonna get rid of the poor people some how raisinghousepirce

  • I think he wants to pollute Britain with his Land Rover - he should stop thinking about buildings facade and think about going Hybrid

  • @addz91 Some people actually need them - You should try driving through a muddy field in a Toyota Prius and see what happens to you, for goodness sake.

  • @zcheeseolly Then my suggestion is walk through the field

  • @addz91 Oh, and I suppose you suggest dragging a trailer full of feed or animals by hand through a field, do you? No, a 4x4 is an absolute necessity when you work on a farm.

  • @zcheeseolly I can't see this guy lugging around in a field, or in that case working on a field. He is driving leisurely for a video on NORMAL roads. If it was work then a work car is required, but this driving is evidently for a video.

  • @addz91 I'm not talking about him, I was talking on behalf of 4x4 driver's who need their vehicles; I agree that he may not need it.

  • @zcheeseolly Oh ok, then we have no argument :)

  • @addz91 Okay, :)

  • What so only LandRovers pollute do they?

Plenty of fat, lazy people who drive small cars.

  • @bertyUK You're correct, plenty of ''fat, lazy people'' in small cars, but you don't see videos of them talking about a fabulous city whilst polluting the city with their pollution machine.

  • i swear every new housing estate in the past 10 years looks like that

  • If you want to get show, yes.

  • @SonicGeneration Efficiency of land, the land is used well as it can hold more people :)

  • gotta love london

  • Any one knows the title of the song that starts on 1:04?

    It is so beautiful.

  • if i see this stuff i always hafe the fealing somtihing bad is going to happen.

Maybe beacuse its an awsome plase for a movie!?

I like the clasical music you hear when the camera flys around canary warf

  • It's Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem.

  • @dystopiafilm

Hey man its not mozarts requiem :(

I mean the song thats starts 1:04

  • Yeah I realized that but for some reason it wudnt let me delete my post, :S My Bad - Sorry guys!

  • awsome area!!

    PHAT!!!!!!

  • they are building many more skyscrapers in Canary Wharf Dockland and a new fast rail as well...Love LOndon

  • Hi Glaxev,i mean that Europe is an old continent, full of building from 200,300 years ago,European countries have an "old style" while canary wharf folows a japanes, new york style.I don ´t mean I prefer modern or old things,I love Europe because Europe is old,but it´s incredible to see a completely different kind of building in an European city.Europe is amazing in general...

  • Greatest country in the world.

  • what is the music which starts at 1:03, its lovely, please someone tell me!
