  • curious to ask, why did you skip parts, especially at the start of the piece, a lot was missing...

  • @1990andypandy I only skipped a few measures towards the beginning... not a whole lot... just had a mental lapse! That was all that was missing. Thanks for watching!

  • @datimpster funny enough, i played this last friday for my percussion recital, played the revised edition. I managed the first part okay right until the delay comes back in and the loop is cut off.... haha still good recording anyway.

  • @datimpster - I just watched your performance, it's fabulous!

Are you Australian, or did you hear about Westlake's in other ways? I understand that he is well known by percussionists around the world.

I am doing a postgrad thesis on Nigel Westlake and would love to ask you a couple of questions about the complexity of this work: how hard it actually is to play; and what you, as a percussionist like best about it. Would it be possible to email you with a couple of questions? Let me know!

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

A post has probably already been made on this but I noticed people were asking about where to purchase Nigel Westlake's music.

All enquiries can be made - rimshot. com . au - this is the composer's publishing website.

If you're in Australia, call up or visit the Australian Music Centre in Sydney (they also have a killer website, with lots of scores and recordings already on there):

    australianmusiccentre. com. au

  • Where did you get this music? I've been trying to find it and all I can find is one place in Australia that carries it... :(

  • @danalinnell That's where I purchased it I think. Try Steve Weiss Music... you can find them online.

  • ich mag die musik , man sollte in die groß Region Luxrmbourg die musik mal vorstellen

  • beautiful piece:)

  • Hey man GREAT PERF!

What was your electronics setup for this? I'm looking at the piece and just thinking through the tech details....

    Thanks!

  • Wow! fantastic performance... I also enjoyed your interpretation of Velocities.

One question please: where can I get/buy the sheetmusic of your version?

    Many Thanks!

    Alex

  • hi! take my congratulation for that record! good job! can is ask you, to send this ( 4 mallets kind) note in email? wait your answer!

  • I must have watched this ten times. I love it. I love Westlake- I love the overlay. Good work!

  • Hey Datimpster, I'm currently learning fabian theory for my year 12 music exam, and I noticed the piece written for more than four mallets, and I was wondering how you decided which notes in each chord were nessacery and which ones to disregard.

  • When I purchased my copy of Fabian Theory, it was the revised version, for four mallets instead of five. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching.

  • I noticed that in your performance of Opening, you use Stevens grip, but here, you're using cross. Any specific reason for the switch?

  • I just felt that Opening laid better in the hands using Stevens, and Fabian Theory laid better in the hands using Burton. I almost exclusively use Burton now, though, because it just feels better to me. My philosophy is, so long as you're getting the sound you want, it really shouldn't matter.

    Thanks for watching!

  • simplest than it is...5 mallets please... :)

  • The version I have is for four mallets (the revised version). Thanks for watching!

  • Although this is an excellent performance. Cons many cons my friend.

  • hello. i am doing an assignment on this piece. can someone tell me the name's on the instruments he's using? thanks

  • Marimba and roto-toms. I think the piece actually calls for regular tom-toms, but I found the roto-toms to work best. Thanks for watching and good luck on your assignment!

  • what mallets are you using? they sound great!

  • Thanks! I used the Evelyn Glennie "reds". Thanks for watching.

  • sweet i already have those!

  • Comment removed

  • love the roto-toms!

  • bravo,excellent performance!!

  • is there a whole section in the beginning missing?

  • Yes. I accidentally skipped a line and luckily recovered unharmed!

  • As this was about four years ago, I honestly do not remember what delay equipment I used since I borrowed from a friend. All I remember was that it was one unit with two pedals - one pedal set to digital delay and one to loop. The pedal box ran into the mixer, as did the mikes.

  • i am playing this piece on my junior recital and would love any suggestions. especially on what delay. i ended up getting guitar pedals to create the effects. does not work nearly as well and two pedals make the piece even harder

  • Great performance; I've always loved this piece, although I've never had time to research the technical requirements. Can you post what you used for the delay effects?
