If you berliners sell these performances on DVD for 15 Euros instead of charging 10 for seeing the concert you'd get a better bargain...I don't rent a house if I can buy it for the same price or a little more..
Why oh why won't the Berlin Phiharmonic release this on DVD,? Surely it's not beyond the capability of the management to come to some arrangement with regard to contractual obligations. On the strengthh of this extract, this is quite simply the greatest recorded performance of the Alpine ever made. It even surpasses Karajan's which I would never have thought possible. To restrict it to a subscription format is annoying in the extreme. Has anyone on Youtube seen the whole performance ?
2:16 literally made me cry today. I have just had one of the most miserable days. And the beauty of the music brought tears to me eyes. :') Thank you Strauss, thank you Berlin, thank you Bychkov, thank you God.
I like how the 4th hornist (2:03) looks very determined to lift his french horn like lifting a gun preparing to shoot. Not in the brutal way but in a way of an athlete :)
The trombone and bass trombone at the 0:16 mark is ab.so.lutely. incredible!!! I rewind, and rewind and rewind over and over again...and I play trumpet!!!
I've recently seen the whole performance in the Digital Concert Hall. Could you tell me the name of the young man filling in at Prinicpal Flute. He's very good and a fine substitute for Pahud and Blau.
Will the Berliners be doing Ein Heldenleben soon? I would love to see Sir Simon conducting that, I have his recording of it he made a few years ago with the Berliners which is excellent. :)
Listen to the balance in the brass section!!! I dear any American orchestra's brass section to match the balance and blend of the Berlin Philharmonic brass section!!!!

How is this even possible? Doesn't it look like he's about to snap his neck when he conducts the timpani hit at 1:59? It's just that amazing. From 2:18 to 2:40 is such an amazing and inspiring shot! Conductor and performers alike are in such passionate motion. I cannot stop coming back to this video!
I am just a begginer in Classical music, but this piece is so... Strauss... i think that even if it wasnt written the compositer name, i would know that is Strauss
@Nermalton77 I know exactly what you mean. All that I had heard of Richard Strauss was his Sunrise from Also Sprach Zarathustra (the space odyssey music). But when I heard this for the first time on the radio (not knowing who composed it), I knew it had to be Strauss.
I find the pummel of my heartbeat stops . . . I cannot find my words to appreciate this wonderful presentation so grand. The music and the entire orchestra brings joy reverberating to my nerve and that I wish when I die – I will find this music in the glory of my grave.

Something very tired-sounding about this music. I mean, it's grand and all, but how many times has Strauss written this kind of music before? I'd rather be hearing this on a sound track accompanying a silent film.
what a fucking stupid mistake u'v made - not all musicians adore the 'alpine' - i'd take 'till' any day over the latter - it's a better piece of music - i've certainly played them enough - tant pis
Beautiful orchestra, as ever. But...you know, this was someone else's piece. Time goes by but something of the old glorious days remains. The Sony dvd with you-know-who on the podium remains totally unreachable. That is THE Alpensinfonie...
Unglaublich.

And what amazing A/V. I would so love seeing that hall.

But it, too, was amazing, for its time. And most especially the time!
