This is adorable. I just went and bought this song off Itunes. I would buy the video too if they had it. I have five wiggley weasels who run our house very effectively. I'll let them listen to your song and I am sure they will love it too! They will probably want to know why they don't get strawberry jam as treats!
It's lovely, but it alarms me that you mention feeding ferrets jam and Cheerios. They're obligate carnivores and as such should not be fed fruit, vegetables or cereals. It's a cute song, though, and you have a lovely voice. Better than mine, that's for sure. A piece of the ferret song I wrote is here on YouTube (Ferrets: Pursuit of Excellence).
@bcarlson15210 Thanks for your concern. One ferret site says: Ferrets enjoy some fruits & vegetables. They're not necessary for good nutrition but if you're feeding your pet high-quality food small amounts won't hurt. Don't fill your ferret up on fruit - he needs to eat his regular food to get the required protein. Too much of nearly anything can be harmful so vary your treats. Suggestions: a slice of banana ... peanut butter, bits of pear, puffed rice cakes. What do you think?
@kpotjeyou Anytime you mention, especially in a song for kids, that ferrets eat such things, you're going to have people who take it too far and think that's ALL they eat. It's not like you can say in your song "only one Cheerio a day" or "in moderation". It would rather mess up the rhythm and all that :) It's hard to keep treats to a minimum ... they love them too much. Carbs and sugars have been implicated in insulinoma (tumors on the pancreas). Just sayin' ... :)
Thank you! I wrote this song for my 7-year old neighbour - the owner of two ferrets. She is one of the two little girls on the song with me. Our brief conversation at the beginning really does tell how the song came about. We were sitting on my porch together, I sang as far as ''I'm writing a song about ferrets. They're some kind of rodents...'' when she yelled '"No, Karen, ferrets are mustelids!" And my education about ferrets began.-- Karen

@kpotjeyou I would still be worried about the high sugar content in fruits. Ferrets are unfortunately prone to Insulinoma :(
