Yes you can. But if you want to weld all the scann into one and save it then you'll need to buy the full version. Don't get me wrong, it's great just need some play with to get a good scann.
The trial comes with a trial of shapefusion too, so you can weld it. Plus, it you scan the side and front and back, you can use 3d max and make a boolean to weld them all together.
He wasn't very clear, in the manual it suggests that rather than use a line laser, you can use a bright light and use a thin string to create a dark line. It doesn't have to be red, just opaque.
...duh you cant use a string and move it in FRONT of the camera, you have to move it in front of a light source and get a sharp shadow on the object you are scanning
I'm not sure how the red string idea that he mentions would work (instead of the laser), or what he meant by it, but this weekend I'm certainly going to try out this software. I'm so glad that someone out there is making stuff like this for FREE!
stick the object on an old vinyl record player or use a lazy susan :P

If you have a regular laser pointer, you can use the thin section of a wine class to make it into a line! =) great vid!

that's not 100% free dude!, you'll have to buy the software in order to save your scanned data.
fogassa01 3 years ago
No.... You don't
gblax123 3 years ago
But you can export your data into another 3d program and save it there.

Red string? WTF. So the webcam scans in the string, how does that help?
This is very cool software, why did that moron have to pull that garbage about a red string out of his ___?
