@mikeymileos thank you! I thought I was the only one who reached the same conclusion. If you listen to enough tool, you'll know this. I'm pretty sure that's what the song "reflections" is about.
This song is a sermon given by a true spiritual person (one who knows this stuff to be true through experience) but delivered in the style of an evangelical christian. It's quite clever.
This is like Disgustipated, You have to look beyond face value with these lyrics. "The Christ" is more of a title then a single person. In this case its a title bestowed upon the one who inherits the earth (which was established as the heavens moment earlier) after the shit hits the proverbial fan.
I don't like this song. The lyrics (all about god, jesus, yawheh) are disturbing. And even if they're a joke, it's a lame joke; I can't find any punchline or irony. I know everyone says Maynard's not Christian, but I don't know... he sure uses a LOT of Christian imagery on his last few albums (including 10,000 Days on the song Right in Two). Part of me is worried that he's becoming religious in his old age. If so, I'm beyond disappointed.
@evilagent If you're reason for not liking Maynard is because he's religious, that's just pathetic. Any true fan of his could care less what he believes. He's a brilliant artist. His mother was incredibly religious, Maynard if anything I would consider him to be agnostic. However if you listen to the most recent album he talks more about a connection before nature and a 'higher being' whether it be the Christian god or not. Regardless, it's still terrible close minded to dislike him for that.
@Noxvill2 I never said I don't like Maynard, even if he is religious. I've seen him live 12 times, I obviously love the guy. What I said was that I'd be disappointed, and that I don't really like this song.
that whole evolution sequence is off of CARL SAGAN'S COSMOS. All of you who that like to consider yourselves "knowledgeable" or "intellectual" watch that series. the whole thing is on YouTube, free of charge, ripe for the taking. Pseudoscience can be fun but get your self a dose of the real thing!
Christ is the archetype of the self. His self is telling his ego what to do. That's what i think. Getting right with jesus is getting aligned with your true self (holy guardian angel, soul, ect.). He's turning the contemporary foundamental christian view into a alchemical wedding.
AMAZING! Seems like only the poster of the video knows what this shit is about. Maynard wants you to spiral out and learn and you all laugh. baaaaaaaaaaaa!
@Nelarsen I meant "HUGE" grain of salt to exaggerate the word. I'll be sure to say "HUUUUGE!" next time as not to confuse anyone. I unfortunatly had used all my U's that day but I gave you 3 extra U's today so that it will no longer nag at your conscience, you owe me 3 U's, thats fair considering I had to use 18 U's just to reply back to your pointless question....make that 21 U's, fuck! 23....... I'm owt of ews now...... happy?
so what he's saying at the end is that i can't drink of a girls period blood until i get right with jesus? is this a reference to kundalini rising and tantric practises? or am i just reaaaaaaally stoned and listening too hard for pagan metaphor in christian imagery?
@eveilslayer The image of Jesus as a christianity tells it is incomplete and incorrect. When he says "Until you get right with Jesus" he is talking about the true Christ and unless you get the story right, then you're fucked and stuck in a false ideology.
If you really want to get a better view point on this stuff. Read the Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life by Drunvalo Melchizedek, he is responsible for the 46 and 2 theory behind the song 46 and 2. Then you will learn about Christ consciousness spirituality and so on. That's a good place to start. It'll teach u about sacred geometry and spirituality. Then listen to Lateralus and Reflection again.
@mikeymileos yah i know dood, i understand the Christ consciousness pretty well, i try to act under it on a daily basis, try to love and understand all the people around you really, just try and make the world a better place to live in, the first time my Christ consciousness ever really awakened to the problems and strife of the world was under the influence of LSD, it got a super charge when i eventually tried DMT, now i just pray that others awaken somehow in their own way.
@eveilslayer Sweet. That's the way to go. I'm in the same boat, trying to love everyone and understand that we are all the same consciousness just through different ego lenses. We're all one. Look me up on FB my name is the same. We can discuss this stuff more there. Also check out lawofone.info. It's cool stuff.
I think Maynard was a devot Christian of some sort until that happened with his mother now he's battling the exsitance of it. It just seems most songs go back to it.. or he just went back with it, like you said with Alchemy, and ive noticed some photos and on my tool t-shirt there's a logo on the sleeve depicting a heptagram with many different symbolisms.
ive read some of these comments and in reference to science and god i think many of u would be interested in a experiment/study done with psychedelic mushrooms at john hopkins university and the study done by rick strausmen with dmt. news flash every 1 science is recognizing spiritual experiences as factual and repeatable events. i did a speach on this subject in college and people were taken way off guard but they liked it lol
@berds6 Why can't people understand they aren't actually experiencing something paranormal/ spiritual? All you are doing is altering the way your brain is gaining sensory input and altering pathways...
All those tests show is that any spirituality that exists is a product of the brain or misinterpretation.
I do a ton of drugs (psychedelics, I'm not talking alcohol or marijuana- although cannabinoids are technically psychedelic) and I understand what's actually happening- it SEEMS spiritual.
what a cynical perspective, i'd go as far as saying its irrational
and i dont think you can quite label spirit as a paranormal thing, i believe a spiritual experience is a deep journey into yourself, which obviously, yes, is a reflection of your own thoughts and various chemical processes ... so what? its a scientific explanation of spirituality, but it doesnt make it less real.
Maynard's always played with the idea of a God, but I don't think he really believes. You can't believe in something you don't believe in. I think Maynard would like to believe, but he just doesn't.

That's actually a great observation. But I highly doubt Maynard is NOT mocking God in this song. But anyone off the street who isn't a believer can't understand that any way. Oh well believe what u want its all free will any way. Kootos.
You're absolutely right bro. Thank goodness for our freedoms though because opinions are like booty holes, everybody has 'em. You may not like my opinion but thats my own opinion. Cool song and i think Maynard has mad talent and am a huge fan but boy I can't help but feel sorry for anyone who mocks the almighty. Sorry Maynard but someone much more mightier than any of us on here will give you final judgement.
@eradilla that's only a concern if you believe in all that. It's like this: I assume you don't believe that your neighbor's dog can hear and understand your thoughts, so you probably don't filter your thoughts when you're around your neighbor's dog. You follow?
@eradilla he's not mocking god. He's mocking the people who follow him blindly, without doing research, who rant and rave incoherently and make their public speeches and prayers into a spectacle. "Verily I say unto you, they shall have their reward. But when thou prayest, retreat into thine closet." All those people who jump up in church and pray long-winded prayers in front of a crowd just to get attention, etc. That could be what Maynard is mocking.
i thought the lyrics were "until you get ripe with jesus" for the longest time. because there are so many wine references. i dislike classifying these perceptions as pantheist because it implies acknowledging the divinity of nature is a form of theism.
Satanism isn't about worshiping Satan, stupid.. It's worshiping themselves and being extremely selfish. I seriously hate most Christians.. I bet most of them haven't even read the Bible. I know I have. The whole fucking thing. It's a good story ;)
This song scares the crap out of me and makes my hair stand.. Everybody should hear the super low bass in this sucker. Get some OE headphones or 15" woofers.
He has not converted to anything. He may have changed, as the song implies, change is a constant. What I get from this is what I believe as well. Maybe we are supposed to take this song the way we want, but what this song says to me is that Satan and Jesus, including the "God" have been created by us. So in turn, if your not right with yourself (Jesus), you will not reap the benefits of life. which only makes perfect sense. If you do not believe in yourself, you go no where.
Personally I look at the entire album V is for Vagina, and I notice something. It's definitely a concept album. Every song is in specific order. :) Something along the lines of the evolution of humanity. I'm almost positive this album was inspired by the Mayan and Hopi prophecies. No I'm not talking about end times or whatnot. I'm just saying if you read into them deeper than anything revolving around the end, you'll notice the ties :) MJK does know what he is talking about. He's intelligent. <3
@MultiDeathCorp nice. was there a second part to your post? I don't know where it is. no formal training. just biology classes in high school and a culmination of watching sci-fi, comic books and i also watched a few docmentaries. I find documentaries to be informative. i love the universe and documentaries on it. actually there is a documentary series called the universe. very intriguing.
@MultiDeathCorp the body. an infinite, shifting intangible... contained with in a finite solid. can infinity exist within a finite space? if it fits within a parameter... then by definition is it still "infinity"? another problem is the limitation of spoken word. *sigh* what a day to be out of weed :(
@MultiDeathCorp intriguing. 95% sounds like a lot. the misleading thing is the numbers.Seems problematic to quantify something that is a bit of an abstract concept. Theoretically DNA determines genes and brain chemicals, therefore behavior. So "choice" almost seems like an illusion. hmm.. it's the 1% that makes all the difference. 1% is almost a world of difference. it's the difference between sheer genious and utter stupidity. The mindfuck rabbit hole lies in the idea of where the mind meets th
Does nobody anywhere know anything about the philosophies of alchemy or the occult?? Not saying that maynard intended for any synchronicities, but everything in the lyrics follows a strict code or relationship metaphors exactly portrayed by Alchemy, the "Science of God" (Translation from Arabic)
@maynardfangirl From the Emerald Tablet of Hermes, which some say is the oldest source document for the Hermetic and Alchemical Arts, along with the Corpus Hermeticum. Thank you for letting me know im not the only one who has read any of this :D
@hyp3rshad0w if it is alchemy you are intrested in then a few topic headings for you to look up. John Dee and the royal societty, the precursor of the rosicrucians. the great white brotherhood. mufkhut and the egyptian pharaohs and even moses and the ark of the covenant. the ark and moses is particularly interesting as it is the main reference of occult knowledge in the old testament. also mono-atomic elements, this is what we cal the philosopher stone today. happy hunting.
@Boomoutgothelights God is perfect , Science is seriously flawed. Considering God exist ... and at least for me it exist .... The universe might as well be the perfect God .
@hyp3rshad0w Did you ever find anything out?? I'd honestly like to know myself. I've always been interested in alchemy. My mother is a practicing druid, so it sort of runs in the family. Let me know .. add me on here, or look me up on facebook "Stacy Sloss" .. I really do want to know what you found out on this topic, if you don't mind sharing :]
@CheeseySpeed Not completely sarcastic. It's just meant to be taken a different way than the traditional Christian interpretation of "God" and spirituality.
@CheeseySpeed If he were trying to be completely sarcastic it would take even more advanced intuition and ingenuity to put it all together than if he were trying to be dogmatic anyways, which means his "sarcastic metaphors' can be seen as having any meaning, although Ive only seen a few artists, especially maynard, that uses sarcastic metaphors that correspond to all of the occult/alchemic/esoteric philosophies of the last 3000 years, which definitely means a lot to me.
I think this is an awesome video! The human evolution is very intersting and spending time, to do this video is great. Thanks for that, maybe some people see... ;)
and I only think outside the box because not only do I have to do so, I'm not afraid to let my conscious and subconscious spread out and explore new paths of thought and strengthen my skill in cognitive cartography, so I can continue to do so.
@jmowery1990 I much prefer apc and tool too, idk it seems like puscifer's music just isn't as deep as the music for apc and tool. maybe I just don't get it x.x but so far there've been quite a few songs having sexual refrences in them x.x.
@jmowery1990 I most definantly did not like Puscifer as muchas TOOL or APC but after awhile they just kinda took hold of my ears and wouldnt let go, now their one of my fav bands
@TheStrawberryPhantom Agreed. I wouldn't say he "converted", but he definitely has a more open mindset. I actually own this album now, and the more I listen to the song, the more I take it to mean that "god" can be found within ourselves, and that those who don't see that are clearly missing something vital in their lives, much like what Christians say when people aren't "right with Jesus."
So am I the only person who can't listen to this song without getting this mental image of a congregation full of half-animated mini-Maynards waving their arms back and forth while singing the "Jehovah, Yahweh" backing vocals? I love it.
In my eyes, Christians are all wrong. :D... but, these are only my eyes and only I may see through them. In a Christians eyes, I am wrong, but they are only their eyes. We are both correct, based on our individual perceptions of the truth. If it is something that people can identify with because they can't understand something else, why does it make it wrong if you don't understand another point? I may think they are ignorant, but it shows a lack of empathy.
@nevelis I mean, a lack of my own empathy as I am the one that doesn't understand. Fuck this, I'm going to bed. Great song too :) love the work in the video too!
Its a simple debate: Carbon dated, verified, proven scientific proof vs. Blind faith in an invisible man that lives in the sky, who knows what all of us are thinking at all times? Seriously?! You mean like Santa Claus on steriods?! Give me a break. Dumbfucks. I hope you all pray to the tooth fairy while you are at it! Oh, and Smokey Bear!
It's a simple debate: carbon dated, scientific proof vs. blind faith and fist tales. Give me a break. An invisible man that lives in the sky, that knows what we are thinking at all times? Right, Santa Claus on steriods. Dumbfucks.
For any of you who are wondering about Maynard's thoughts on religion, you might want to take a listen to his commentary on the video for A Perfect Circle's "Judith". He has some really interesting and valid points.
No evil save blind faith ignorance and the desire for the unprepared to blame others for the devastation left in the wake of change thank you rev maynard and god bless jlk
@linethemind That part REALLY stuck out for me. Reminds me of Tool's Schism. We just love to project our own faults onto the world, and claim everyone's fucking with their shit.

Cool song and i think Maynard has mad talent and am a huge fan but boy I can't help but feel sorry for anyone who mocks the almighty. Sorry Maynard but someone much more mightier than any of us on here will give you final judgement.
eradilla 5 months ago
@eradilla that's only a concern if you believe in all that. It's like this: I assume you don't believe that your neighbor's dog can hear and understand your thoughts, so you probably don't filter your thoughts when you're around your neighbor's dog. You follow?
TheGuyFromThatMovie 5 months ago

@Grungified dude...
you already KNOW its a projection. this is key!!
you cant be lead to the truth you have to find it for yourself
if you really want to achieve or attain something just imagian what it feels like to already have it.
Will it my son, and it will be. It's all about your train of thought. And never ever doubt it.
'Ask and you shall recieve' - 'The kingdom of god is within YOU' These don't happen to be bullshit quotes from the bible, we just think they are.

ChayDawg64 9 months ago
@MultiDeathCorp the body. an infinite, shifting intangible... contained with in a finite solid. can infinity exist within a finite space? if it fits within a parameter... then by definition is it still "infinity"? another problem is the limitation of spoken word. *sigh* what a day to be out of weed :(
ChayDawg64 9 months ago 2

CheeseySpeed 11 months ago
@CheeseySpeed Not completely sarcastic. It's just meant to be taken a different way than the traditional Christian interpretation of "God" and spirituality.
maynardfangirl 10 months ago
@CheeseySpeed If he were trying to be completely sarcastic it would take even more advanced intuition and ingenuity to put it all together than if he were trying to be dogmatic anyways, which means his "sarcastic metaphors' can be seen as having any meaning, although Ive only seen a few artists, especially maynard, that uses sarcastic metaphors that correspond to all of the occult/alchemic/esoteric philosophies of the last 3000 years, which definitely means a lot to me.

fhammond22 1 year ago
@TheStrawberryPhantom Agreed. I wouldn't say he "converted", but he definitely has a more open mindset. I actually own this album now, and the more I listen to the song, the more I take it to mean that "god" can be found within ourselves, and that those who don't see that are clearly missing something vital in their lives, much like what Christians say when people aren't "right with Jesus."

Too much weed, long live MJK.
