Did you even watch the video? The issue was that a cameraman from BMP (MTV) interrupted a WUSA reporter who was filming a local news report. You made it sound as if I was defending MTV. What "company" are you talking about? Furthermore, the executive director has credits dating back to 1992. You're telling me he was directing reality TV shows while he was 4 years old? Seriously? I was there. Unless you lived in Dupont then there are many factors you aren't aware of surrounding this incident.
@Jitters10 First, BMP didn't "own" the house, they were leasing it. Second, all of this took place on the sidewalk which is public property. Why should BMP be allowed to interrupt anyone else's legal use of the public space? Not to mention this is poor professionalism. The camera man was supposedly thrown under the bus, as he was allegedly only responding to instructions given to him from the producers.
@mikesica Public property. Bam. you just refuted the entire argument by saying that. So why does the new company have a greater right to use the space? And besides, I doubt the camera man was "thrown under the bus" by BPM, the Executive Director is like 22 years old.
that was so unbelievably rude... Martin wasn't talking about anything important but just talking about the experience... It just goes to show how UNREAL the Real World has become... I appreciate it for what it is but at the same time It's people like Elizabethany and Martin that are actually helping the show by one helping to create drama and entertainment and two giving the show free advertising... even with all the bloggers there is still going to be a lot they don't see...
We all know the show has nothing to do with the "Real World". As the reality TV genre has morphed, so has the show which started the trend. These shows are cheap and easy to produce, and the script writes itself... or so you would think. It's supply and demand. The customers want an attractive cast and drama that makes them feel glad they're not them. MTV delivers. It's been that way for years.
Elizabeth and Martin will be lucky if they even make it past the cutting room floor for a single episode. It's in BMP's best interests to not include them, since that encourages would-be-stalkers for future seasons. They may be shown in background shots, an interaction or two at the most, but they will not even be secondary characters. The entertainment/drama will be created by the video editors from terabytes of video footage. Neither have been in the house, where the actual story lines unfold.
There have been some "interactions" between them, but it's a summer full of drama, and limited time to fill for each show. What do you see as their main contributions? As for free advertising, that only really counts for DC/MD/VA.
I understand what reality has become I've been a fan of it since it's inception... I've gone back and watched RW in it's glory days so I get what the show is all about and how it got here... As much as they say they are on a mission to get on the show do you honestly believe that they think they'll actually get there? I think they of all people realize the reality of what they are doing... though I think there is a chance that some of the people they work with ie. E's "companions" do.
Their contribution is that they are trying to make the show more Real by "introducing" the cast to "real" people and the "real" DC. I've seen the past few seasons and found that the same predictable "drama" keeps happening and I find myself and others are switching off because of it. If anything they are instigators or puppet masters if you will and I do believe that we will see that in the show itself. I think this is more about giving people a look at the reality of their reality.
I'm sure I'm going to look back and find this way more compelling than the show itself. It doesn't matter where the advertising is going what matters is that it's out there and this is the first time that there has been this much coverage of the show... it can only go up from here... if BMP were smart they'd embrace the old adage that if you can't beat em join them...
I'm all for imposing limits and for going after those who are just out to cause problems but it's been well documented that the 3 main bloggers have actually been quiet respectful in fact in E's last blog she actually stayed away from the house when some real drama was going on. In a way I think they are trying to keep stalkers away but at the same time not all of them are out to cause trouble.
If they do make it on the show it won't what they're hoping for. BMP has seen this time and time again, neither of them realise this. Neither has any serious video editing experience... If they did then they would understand how the entire show is shaped in post production and would have behaved accordingly. Elizabeth uses Windows Movie Maker and a Flip Camera.... aspiring for a Flip HD. Enough said.
When I questioned her on this she told me she prefers Movie Maker instead of Final Cut because "it has too many options." She majored in broadcast journalism? I won't even get into our conversation on radio, but if asked I'd be more than happy to compare my resume in radio to that of an intern at WIHT. They don't really care whether they're in the house as long as the camera stays focused on them.
Compare Elizabeth's videos to TMZ. One is actually showing the stars... the other is giving a play by play of a Twitter feed. Playing devils advocate however, many people are trying to be on the show for all of the same reasons... just not to the same extent. I live in the neighborhood, and while I don't make it a point to walk by the house I certainly won't stay indoors for months on end just to avoid walking by it.
I've had several instances where I'd finish up dinner at Thaiphoon, outside I would run into a mom and her daughter/son/etc just sitting across the street from the house trying to get a glimpse. I've even said something to several of them, at which point they a) act like they didn't know the house was there or b) point at it and act like they're breaking the big news to me that the house is across the street. So I think many want in on the action... but some are a bit more zealous than others.
I do agree that they are introducing the cast to those they wouldn't otherwise meet. The key question is whether any of this footage makes air or not. The rapid expansion of social media, and Twitter specifically, has allowed for what is practically a city-wide converged papparazi. This trend will only continue for future shows. BMP is still operating with an old school TV mentality... "and damnit everyone better play along".
Well, everyone's not playing along so BMP will have to adapt or continue to face this in the future. What? They don't like it? Too bad. Half the public tuned out years ago... perhaps they didn't get that memo either. You are correct... most of the bloggers have been respectful (sans a few).
BMP is still treating all of them as a threat. After what they've experienced in other seasons I can't blame them. It will take time to break those barriers... but that won't be until long after 2000 S Street has gone dark.
