  • thumb up for percussion madewith the thumb!

  • this one, and "Tranquility" which was also shot in the same studio are both amazing

  • Great tune. Thumbs up for no tapping and more musicology.

  • But, the nek of your guitar now is damaged

  • How do you make that beat with your thumb...? Is it a ring?

  • @mikeberryman27 lol, of course it's not a ring, why would you jump to that conclusion?

  • I love how solid his use of hybrid picking is.

    Such a beautiful piece.

    And I thought Jimmy was tuned C# A C# A B C# for most of his pieces? @tman916x

  • I wonder if he d be a good singer too. He looks like he d be a good singer

  • @Ccbroo you know what thts what people about many guitarists that they cant sing

but look at john mayer now all know about his voice his guitar he is just amazin ..whatever he is he is amzin

  • GREAT!!!

  • so what kind of guitar is it?

  • Nobody really notices it but his use of the right hand (flatpick and three, usually forgotten, fingers) really defines the complexity of his style.

  • jimmy is NOT GAY! Not that it matters anyway. Want proof? Look up his WIFE Anna Sahlin Wahlsteen. Honestly who cares? No one cared about freddy mercury being homosexual, he was an amazing musician!

  • I just got this cd today. I really enjoy Jimmy's playing.

    -Jack

  • What guitar is he using... sounds awsome

  • @ddenniszzz Not sure of the model but he plays Larriveé guitars most of the time.

  • impression trompeuse de facilité, de légèreté... un grand bravo, j'adore

  • guys it's a thumb ring, not a wedding ring.

  • why does Jimmy being gay matter much here, what matters is the awesomeness of his music

  • ok you narrow minded buzzkillers. if you like the music, shut up about this cock lover. if you dont like the music, listen to something else. guy was born a woman with a penis. not his fault. he still picks a mean acoustic...

  • ......sounds fucking good to me

  • Wonderful piece... Never noticed him so much cause I listened a lot to Don Ross ,Antoine Dufour, Andy Mckee and some classical stuff but now I like his compositions so much ;) I don't rlly like that left thumb drum thing because I think it's too loud sometimes but his music always makes me happy ;)

  • gay man dont have art.and gay man olso cant make people felt amaze n happy.one thing i know about gay man is.. gay man is a stupid attention seeker!!!

  • @payern To ridicule gay men is to show insecurity about yourself. Think about that and think about what you say.

  • @payern I'd rather be a "stupid attention seeker" than an illiterate coward. I'm just saying. Everybody BUT you can see that ABOUT you. Shame.

  • @MelFinehout sounds that u angry dude.u complaining things worst u ever had more about.I MEAN Jimmy Wahlsteen is not a gay men !!

you stupid attention seeker and an illiterate coward !! cuz u meant it oredi.haha

  • @payern Lol @ the Jimmy Wahlsteen is not a gay men part, meaning gay MAN.. then the "and an illiterate coward " part haha, phail...

  • He is wearing a wedding ring, odds are he is not gay.

  • He's not gay ... he's Swedish! Seriously, though ... he's an incredible guitarist, people, and he has a GORGEOUS wife!

  • @TheDougBond Dunno if it's relevant, but Opeth is Swedish, too. You should listen to 'Benighted' by Opeth. It's a nice a tune.

  • hes got a wife people

  • Gay or not, he's one snazzy dresser!

  • that face at 2:05 lmao

  • reason he is using left thumb and not right thumb is that he uses a hybrid picking style and were he to use his right thumb he would drop his pick :D. Awsome guitar work here

  • do you know why ppl obsess oover him being gay?

Because no one likes a fag

i like his music though :D

  • @killabananas Too bad he's not gay.

  • Wow, amazing, beautiful guitar work..

    Love Heather

  • wow, cool! I've never seen a percussive part played on the back of the neck like that before. I'm surprised he didn't just use his right thumb though, lol.

  • this guys amazing! and so clean sounding.... just wnderful

  • Interesting way to do it...

  • That was soooooo good, 5 and a half stars :)

  • small cok ring on thumb!=tic toc i've gotta lotta cok

  • VERDAMMT COOL: FUCKING COOL

  • thought id leave a positive comment, to counter act these trollin mothafuckas! :P Unless you have constructive criticism, dont leave the negative comments, especially on such an awesome vid. :D

  • they should have told the carpenter (or whichever repairs he was doing) to come back later. he took too long to shut up and then resumed his hammering again. v annoying. like those amateur movies where theyre getting it on and the postman is at the door shouting "package to sign for! i know someone's in there. i can hear the panting" - in this case knocking.

  • I have to say again that the knocking is too loud, it really is distracting me from listening to the guitar.

  • its a kool song but the thumb ring tapping is a lil much

  • yeah

  • Comment removed

  • LOL

  • @marooki don ross is the best for all his songs

michael hedges is the best for all his songs

jimmy wahlsteen is the best for all his songs..

  • Then allow me to correct myself:

    "Oh yeah, thats right, :]"

and why'd i get a thumbs down? Lol.

my comment wasn't insulting, just a funny expression jimmy made. Lol

  • ; D

  • @marooki yep that`s the reason of my LOL XD

  • Amazing guitar playing. i love it.

  • ah so that's why he does open tunings... He can't barre with that ring on his left thumb. Veddy interesting...

  • @tman916x who said it was an opening tuning? not standard doesnt mean its open.

  • well I was reading a description of the guy and it said that Wahlsteen finds "creative open tunings" so naturally I thought that most of his songs, especially the ones with the knocking technique, would be in an open tuning.

Btw the way lighten up, heaven forbid I'm wrong oh my!

  • @tman916x

Yea! Heaven forbid you make an ASSumption only find out, you haven't the slightest idea about open tunings. Why don't you refute your own stupidity by telling the person to lighten up because they corrected you. Perhaps you should come to the realization that you had your head up your ass when you made this comment. I know, it's easier to marginalize someone by telling them to "lighten up" when you clearly have no idea of what you are taking about.

  • Thanks captain amazing. Any other knowledge you'd like to bless us mere mortals with?

  • @tman916x Is that a general comment directed at all of us or to somebody in particular :P

  • @RabidCookie It was directed at Skeasor on pg. 6 :)

  • @tman916x "by the way the way"?

  • @haproductions01 What are you talking about?

  • @tman916x "BTW the way" is redundant. you're basically saying "by the way the way".

  • @haproductions01 Haha silly me.

  • He did it easy!

  • are they coming out with more tabs?

  • dude looks kinda like Kiefer Sutherland dun he?

  • duh like that's sooo relevant doood

  • yea and your sarcastic irrelavant comment to my irrelavant comment further magnifies the irrelavance, so what have you accomplished?

  • you have answered your own question... or were you trying to be rhetorical (?)

  • I think after a while of listening to the tapping sound it works :]

  • especially if you bang your head against a wall in time to it... but you must have discovered that already yourself

  • When I read the title and heard the knocking, the first thing that came to my mind was this figure literally carrying me up an endless flight of stairs and it took a tremendous effort to lift me up, but it kept on going.

  • wow a true NLP expert

  • No I agree the tapping spoils it a wee bit, doesn't sound good, otherwise he's super

  • he does two versions this song, one with and one without, tapping.

you're a fucking knob, by the way.

  • oh such droll wit and eloquent language. I suppose your knuckles trawl along the ground too !

  • that's why it was left out in the CD. :D haha

  • lovely to see such simple things amuse you.

  • Finally a good use for a wedding ring...! xD thx jimmy!

  • @AlmX001 hahahahahhaha

  • @AlmX001 hahahaha =))))

  • @AlmX001 you wear your wedding ring on your thumb? :P

  • bruce willis @_@

  • Love it

  • irrelevant knocking...boring

  • true..

  • Not irrelevant at all. It's actually quite innovative. It's not everyday someone would use their left (or non plucking) hand to simulate a snare/woodblock sound.

  • imagine pairing this with harmonics and thumbslaps, phew.

  • Yeah, i agree, really inventive imo also

  • wow great

  • he knock on the neck with a ring on the left thumb... beatiful job! XD

  • I was wondering what that was. xD

  • What's with the annoying "knocking" sound. Do we really need to listen to a metronome? Nice tune otherwise.

  • Amen to that!

  • Watch his left thumb.

  • British Bloak

  • nice and unique chord progressions, but it wasn't really moving for me.

  • I don't think he is gay, he is Swedish so the style is probably just different.

  • hes married, look at his wedding ring

  • this is the first song i've heard from this guy. and it's great!

not only is he a great musician, but he's easily the prettiest guy on candyrat records! lol

  • hes gay ya know

  • and how would you know eh?

  • Looks like young Johnny Cash :)

  • what is everyone's obsession with jimmy being gay? is everyone just stating it in the hopes that if he is that he might respond to their comments for a hook up? i mean come on as a culture can we move past whether or not people are gay it seems like people only put emphasis towards another person to try and draw suspicion away from their own closet homosexuality get over it he's a good musician why should it matter if hes gay? either you like his art or you don't that should be it also good song

  • @solomuse69 Or maybe, certain people do not want to be part of a "culture" where being gay is ok, or cool, or hell even tolerated

  • @lusdog Then move to Iran, you fuckin idiot.

  • @ZebMacahan BWhahaha you want ME to move out.....I'm just a couple hundred miles from Iran right now making sure ass-hat fags like you don't get wiped off the face of the planet. You insignificant little turdlette. Why don't you get your boyfriend to shove his cock down your throat while you cry about this later.

  • @solomuse69 totally agree with you. Besides, he's engaged to Anna Sahlin Privat!

  • @solomuse69 well.. a hook up would be a failed thought because hes got a wedding ring on

  • @solomuse69 well.. a hook up would be a failed thought because hes got a wedding ring on... also a good indicator of him not being gay.. so.. if more people payed closer attention.. they would notice this

  • @solomuse69 yep i agree, gay or not he is a incredible musician

  • The beautiful music and very good performance! Bravo!!!

  • Are there two microphones in front of hhim because theyre recording in stereo?

  • yep

  • @soundandfury25 yeah, as far as i can see his guitar isn't plugged in

  • Gay or not, it sounds really good. congratulations Jim

  • I think he is good but that knocking sounds so "laud" that it ruins abit of the song. :) Else it's wonderful.

  • he does the knocking sound with his thumb through the back of the neck apparently, he probably has something on his finger that creates a larger noise... I find it quite interesting, though pitch to it is a bit loud.

  • I believe it's just a larger than average metal ring

  • dont care if he is a gay or not just watch his new video rapid eye moment he is amazing thats the only important thing

  • good finaly your out of the closet son!

    -Dad

  • this made me lol

  • This is what I've been missing. I'm tired of shit like Sergio Altamura and Stefano Barone's styles being repeated uploads, although I love the artists. I just needed a beautiful acoustic song to remind me why I loved candyrat in the first place. 5/5 and keep up the good work. Love the tapping with the ring. I find it inventive.

  • Maybe it isn't as fancy as Stefano Borone's music, but I do really enjoy some, as you say it "plain music".

Maybe I like this even better, that's why I am more a fan of Andy Mckee and Antoine Dufour for example. :D

  • LOL

Go listen to complex music then. Get the fuck out of here.

  • Nice, shame about the annoying tap which sort of ruins it for me.

  • hmm that requires a bit of multi-tasking skills to get that tapping with the left hand thumb. good work =]

  • I didn't really enjoy this song, especialy when compared to the others this artist has uploaded.

I felt the overall melody was pretty weak and without much character. Also the rhythm wasn't very strong or driving, which is quite unlike his other pieces.

I did enjoy the left hand thumb tapping on the neck though. For me those sections were the best parts.

  • ewen macgregger

  • such a nice video!!! and song!!!! loved it!!! :)

  • *****

  • wonderful & smooth

    good sounding guitar and a

    charming player :-)

  • Very Well done. Now lets see all those people giving there " you should do this" advice do it better) And not to be rude and or one of them I just discribed.... Dude lose the makeup!

  • I know seriously!!!

  • Very inspirational!! Loved it! t:)

  • awesome

  • interesting use of a thumb-ring!

  • hey it seems like this action on his guitar is frighteningly low...is this true? How do you lower the action on an acoustic guitar?

  • lowering the height of the nut/saddle

adjusting the tension applied by the tuss rod ("a long metal rod that's built into the neck behind the fingerboard to counterbalance the tension of the strings")

for more info google-it ("action acoustic guitar")

    =)

  • Lower the nut and saddle. General rule of thumb: You don't want to adjust the truss rod for action issues.

  • i think they just do 1 album at a time.

  • i love this guy, but i agree we should have more Don, Andy, Craig (my personal favorite ^^) etc. but I'm also way into for new guys and other creative ways of playing music. i personally would love to see more of Peter Ciluzzi. and as a bass player a few more of Manring and maybe others xD

  • agreed

but im guessing don and andy

    are writing new music

and during that process these new guys are stepping in!

    love hearing jimmy hes amazing

  • I know right?

I want to see more of Stefano Barone and Don Ross.

  • The thumb ring tapping on the neck was very creative.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • tom morello used to do this on his electric, and now in his acoustic solo alias "the nightwatchman... even so, still creative, this guy rocks!

  • beautiful.

  • Doesn't rpoland go on a kick for one artist at a time? Happened with a few others too....

  • i didn't know kiefer sutherland played guitar

  • The ironic thing is, he does. He has his own Gibson Signature KS-336.

  • I'd hate to dent my neck by tapping on it.

  • Innovation at it's finest. I would have not considered using my fretting thumb as percussion on the neck. Pure innovation!

  • I like the thumb hammer

  • I kind of agree that the knocking is annoying. The technique is cool though. I would suggest he get a smaller ring on the thumb, or use a special device for a different percussion sound there. Jimmy is a freakin PIMP though!

  • Definitely an interesting chord progression

  • lol i hate the ring making tht tap noise its y i take mine off while playing its so not gd this guy is 10/10 but this song isent bit of a let down after rapid eye moment

  • The ring is used as a rhythmic tool, it's not just there because he forgot to take it off.

  • i no but it sounds horrid!

  • Now I don't have any formal training in music, and I don't need any to realize how wondrous this song is. Keep it up Jimmy and the rest of the CandyRat crew!

  • Great, as usual.

  • Excellent guitarist but all of his stuff sounds the same.

  • his hair makes me chuckle a lil but great music keep it up

  • Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!

  • Which Larrivee model is he using?

    Anyone knows?

  • very unusual progression.

  • Amazing but the knocking was annoying

  • Key shift nice, with the tapping creative and very melodic. Nice job.....

  • I really enjoyed the quality of the audio. Oh yeah, the song as well!

  • Excellent playing!

  • awesome!!

  • Very special and inspiring!

    Thanks!

  • and I'm not disappointed :) Same as always:)

  • I think at the end he looks more like: "Did you like it? Did you like it? hhmm???" not like: "I'm gooood!" :)

I LOVE his music!!! I definitely have to buy some CDs.
