I love the way she builds the climax of the song from 2:40 to 3:10. It's like she's about to go off oh wait she scaled it back...NOW she's about to go off. This song helps me so much. It's really great to be different, but it's never easy. It's really hard to live in a place where you don't meet a lot of other people like you, either. For me, I don't meet a lot of other gay people. That's not just romantically frustrating, but it's lonely not to have friends you relate to about it, no matter how great your other friends are. when I first heard this song on the butterfly album, I instantly connected to it. For most of my life I've always felt different from everyone else. even when I'm hanging with friends or family, I never feel completely apart of the group, and often find myself drifting off into my own world. yes, she did write it about her experience growing up biracial, but the song is universal and can be embraced by anyone who feels like they don't fit in.

I love all of her music, including the new stuff. My fav albums are MC, Emotions, Daydream, Butterfly, Charmbracelet, and TEOM. TEOM has some of her best song, who gives a damn if it was pro-tooled. Every artist does that these days. Its still amazing, and gave her a song of the decade once again. =]

when I first heard this song on the butterfly album, I instantly connected to it. For most of my life I've always felt different from everyone else. even when I'm hanging with friends or family, I never feel completely apart of the group, and often find myself drifting off into my own world. yes, she did write it about her experience growing up biracial, but the song is universal and can be embraced by anyone who feels like they don't fit in.

I remember when my boyfriend broke up with me, I was 17, I had this song on repeat. I made me cry thinking about the memories! To this day, it still tears me up a lil. I can feel her in this song. I loved her albums back then...don't get me wrong lyrically she has a lot of good songs now days but I think she has gotten lazy with her vocals and over produces them...everyone already knows she can sing so she doesn't always have to do the whispery voice and whistle register all the time.

Mariah was inspired to write this song from her own experience, but she wrote it for her fans to relate to, and it just so happens the gay fan base of hers picked this song up and held it close. I love all of her music, including the new stuff. My fav albums are MC, Emotions, Daydream, Butterfly, Charmbracelet, and TEOM. TEOM has some of her best song, who gives a damn if it was pro-tooled. Every artist does that these days. Its still amazing, and gave her a song of the decade once again. =]

I disagree. Mariah wrote this track for herself, from the heart, about the way she felt growing up being bi racial. Yes the song can be applied to numerous other things like homosexuality etc. but the true subject of the song is M's experience growing up on the outside aka being bi racial.

I am biracial, but I identify with this song more so because of other trials and tribulations that made me feel on the outside...

This song brings back such strong emotions. I grew up feeling like an outsider but couldn't really relate how I felt with anybody. then i heard this song when i was like 17 years old. my mom is from a different country, which put me in a weird position growing up in such a homogeneous society. I felt I wasn't the only one and it is ok to be me after hearing this song.

I've never been able to choose, Daydream or Butterfly. It's impossible for me. Every single song is great on Daydream however Butterfly is emotioanlly and lyrcially great it hurts.
