The last president that only sent our troops in harms way if their was an attack. Every president that followed Roosevelt with maybee the exceptions of Eisenhower, Ford ,and Carter sent our troops in harms way to get rich.
Y'know, I hate this talk that Obama is another FDR. I had hopes he'd be one, but the primary difference between FDR and Obama is actually quite obvious. FDR talked with people and talked to them like they were intelligent people, not only that he had the ability to make enemies and destroy his enemies. Obama's rapidly showing himself to be a marshmallow when he gets pushed.
This is the real traitor ladies and gentlemen!! he sent his troups on war and made big money on their backs!! the soldiers payed with their blood 100 billions dollars can you imagine that?
Dont call me a right winger ether just cause someone believes in something like the Bible doesn't mean they would vote for a dumbass like George W. Bush! I voted 3rd party never vote for the 2 sell outs!
Mc0558 no it wasn't a response I just am a deep fan of American Elections. I don't like the Electoral College myself. I just have a rule that a candidate has to win by at least a 10 point margin in a Nationwide Election for it to be a Landslide. I am a HUGE Obama supporter, but I don't see a Landslide. He lost 22 states. He won 52.8% of Popular Vote to McCain's 45.9% a big win but not of Landslide Proportions. In 17 Elections a candidate has had a higher Electoral Tally than Obama's 365.
Franklin Roosevelt(D) 27,243,266 Popular Votes 54.8% 449 Electoral Votes 38 states won Wendell Willkie(R) 22,304,466 Popular Votes 44.8% 82 Electoral Votes 10 states won- in my estimation in Landslide margin
Mike is this in response to something I said. In my opinion, the Electoral College does not count in landslides. Only the popular vote creates a landslide. Indeed, the Electoral College is a brake on democracy, if not the perverter of it outright as in the 2000 election, and if the US is a democracy, it should be abandoned.
The do nothing / laissez-faire policy of the Republican Hoover administration (surprise!!) resulted in a failed solution to the Great Depression. It took FDR's quasi-socialist New Deal to defeat the GD, and consequently most of America prospered. Once again, America is in need of a new, New Deal. FDR - Greatest president of the 20th century and arguably the greatest ever.
Once FDR died, the Republicans did everything they could to destroy his reputation. That is really what McCarthyism was all about--labelling FDR and his administration communist agents and traitors. They knew that if his reputation remained in tact, they could not win.
Less you think this could not be possible today, look at how thoroughly the Republicans demolished Clinton's reputation, another high successful president. This time it was because he had an affair and refused to kiss and tell.
1/2 The sad thing about the demolition of great public servants through lies and slander is that the American people don't know who their friends are or who are the people who pull the wool over their eyes for self-gain. In this way, America makes no progress..
Bill Clinton was one of the best and successful President we ever had, and certainly one of the most intelligent. His speeches clarify the true situation for the people to understand better where they are
And you know what, many right wing conservative are saying the samething about Barack Obama's policies but it took FDR's quasi-socialist New Deal to turn the economy.
I see nothing socialistic in FDR's New Deal, nor in, as is often pointed to, the Swedish economy. Socialism, in essence, is NOT state organised welfare, pensions, health care, child care, education, etc. Socialism is state (or public) ownereship of all property. In the USSR, even the restaurants and barbershops were owned by the state. There is no "market economy". In so far as there is, the socialist nature of society has been compromised. The New Deal helped people and companies. Thats all!
I agree with on that point that the New Deal helped people and companies to grow during that time. It is very hard to convince conservatise who believe that smaller government is the key which would put the nation beyond a depression. President Elect Obama should use FDR's New Deal & Dwight Eiesenhawer that will help rebuilds America's interestutor such as roads car manufactors and saving social securaty.
Well, I agree with you with one proviso. Maybe I am too pessimistic, but even in the depths of the 1929-36 Depression, America possess the most modern and competitive industrial plant in the world. This seems to me no longer the case. America has been de-industrialising for the last 30 years. The financial industry grew in proportion, which seemed to suggest that instead of producing things we'd produce services, but things are what you need. Now the financial system has collapsed.
There was nothing socialist about the New Deal! Find out what socialism is. The New Deal was simply government intrusion into the market to stimulate demand in order to start production rolling again, and at that it was scarcely an adequate intrusion.
Still the Republican dominated Supreme Court declared that most of the New Deal strategy was unconstitution, prompting in the aftermath of their decisions, a downward turn in the economy again.
In my opinion, he was right to confirm that he wouldn't lead any war in a foreign country except in case of attack, and the attack was in Pearl Harbor.
I have envy of the U.S. of America, to have such honorable characters in the story, you can be proud of it.
