I rented the 32 mm. impact socket from Autozone for free (deposit returned) Torque the nut to 175 ft lbs with the wheel on the ground and you should be fine
Never use an air gun on the axle nut. You will damage the bearing you just installed! It should be torqued with a torque wrench with the wheel on the ground
I have a 4x4 suburban. I thought my driver side front bearings were bad (since I'd don't my right side fronts last year and had a similar noise), but it appears it's the rears. How similar is it to replace those?
this was not a good video, sure they showed you how to replace the parts but this technician cut a lot of corners ! hanging the calipers buy its hose can do damage to the hose or the caliper if it falls, using an impact gun on a hub nut can over torque and also cause per mature damage to the bearing. using a gun on the wheel nut can be ok if torque stick are use then recheck with a torque wrench. this job is just dickered!
this is why i repair my own car. you pay them good money to do the job right which i rated at 4 hours labor. and they hack it out in 30 min, but still get payed the 4 hours.
Did they not say "Even though we did not do it in this video... do not dangle the caliper from the brake hose...." so stop making the comments about it.
@getgankednub hey man did you its not good to let the brake calibers hang like that from your car. ha ha listen up, we all heard him say "Even though we did not do it in this video... do not dangle the caliper from the brake hose" blah blah blah ok well then why the fucck did you do it then if your no supposed to!!!. RIGHT... thats what all the fuss is about this guy is a fucckin hippocrite and he dont know how to work on cars, oh and by the way your name is fucckin pathetic
I think it's pretty important to get the torque right on that central nut. Given what he did with the brake caliper, we're left to wonder if he ever uses a torque wrench. Looks to me like he didn't use one here. I guess that's the difference between the pro and the amateur -- some pro's may cut corners in the interest of doing things fast....
@kknight06 well I thought you had to take the knuckle off did it 5 times till I saw one of these videos and realised I did more work than necessary and most of us don't have the luxury of air tools
My bearing does not have any screws behind it

The mechanic is a nimrod for hanging the caliper with the brake hose!

Can't do damage tightening the axle nut with an impact.I do do this and no damage done. There is no way to get the axle torqued down all the way.

you should always hand tighten the lug nuts prior to using an impact otherwise your going to cross thread your bolts.

should also be tightening the lug nuts with a torque wrench, not air tools!!

dumbass dude: you need to grease your caliper pins every time you replace the pads, or any time you remove the caliper for any reason

Dude...nice vid, but even a shade tree wrench knows not to dangle a heavy cast iron caliper from the hose

Uhh... you really shouldn't have the brake calipers dangling like that from the brake hose....
