The airplane did a fly by the tower so they could see any damage, they couldnt because the gear was still hanging on by the cables. Then the pilot tried to land the plane, and the gear would not hold, so they foamed the runway...
It was ground crew error, overloaded the airplane. The airplane struck an ILS pylon on takeoff and sheared the left main gear, the airplane did a flyby then a touch and go then what you see here. No fatalities. I have a part of this airplane N8434GA 707-323B
I saw before flying and saw when he went down in forced landing procedure. I was 9. I remember right. If I remember President Ronald Reagan was in Brazil that day.
They tried to take off overload with high temperatures, the gear strikes the localizer anthena and landing approach lights, they lost hydraulic power and it was a mess, lucky guys.
That's a damn shame.

If a 707 crashed, the first thing I'd say would be 'Is the plane hurt ???'
Then I'd worry about the people.

Good Job, shiny side up and no fire. Looks like maybe the port side landing gear failed to extend and/or lock down

While the airplane was trashed and turned into junk, it was a good landing. Everyone walked out of that one.

like pilots say, any landing that you can walk out of the airplane is a good landing.
