for the person who asked about adding other cichlids, I'm sorry to tell you, but it is almost impossible to add another cichlid in once territory is established. If you had a community tank.......then you could add more.
I have actually been successful in adding smaller cichlid to my tank. If they're too small, they would be consumed. If they're fully grown or too big, they would be chased to death. So the trick is to pick the right size--not too small, not too big. My experience is 2 inch is perfect. They are small enough for the existing fish to ignore but big enough to survive.
would you know about adding new fish to an established tank? i've got 5 cichlids (3.5- 6 cm), and one of them is always chasing the others into the corner-should i change the dynamics of the tank by adding new cichlids?
You will always going to have a dominating fish that chases after all the others. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it is picking on on specific fish all the time. Adding more fish helps to divert the attention but only if you have enough room in the aquarium. How big is the tank?
The dominating male is a Metriaclima greshakei, (ice blue zebra), a female ice blue zebra and their babies. Two Labidochromis caeruleus (Electric Yellow), one Metriaclima estherae (Red Zebra), one female Metriaclima Lombardoi (Kenyi), one male Pseudotropheus socolofi (Pindani), three Labidochromic sp. "Perlmutt", one jewel cichlid, one male Metriaclima callainos (Cobalt Blue Zebra), one Labidochromis sp. "Hongi", and one Pseudotropheus sp. "Flameback".
