This is Rachid Taha's cover of The Clash's "Rock the Casbah" from their 1982 album Combat Rock. You may have heard The Clash's version on the radio though.
Those Algerians are awesome, rachid taha is one hell of a talented musican. love all his REAL songs, not only this cover , but his original music is 100% the shit!
Any reliable Clash or Taha biography will confirm that the Clash wrote this song originally, and that Taha covered it long after the Clash had released it worldwide.
Taha adjusted Strummer's lyrics here and there to make them fit, and reworked the instrumentation -- but that's not the same thing as "writing the song originally." As long as his song carries the melody and the essence of the original, it's a cover version.
this guy took this cover and revitalized the shit out of it!!!! go rachiddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd just stop the drugs u'll be purrrrrrrrrrrfect
This has got to be one of his best tunes, excellent!! Btw, on Rachid's London gig suddenly The Clash's Mick Jones appeared with him on stage and jammed and sang along, how fuckin cool's that???

Is the tune for the chorus used in any early-2000s song? I have been racking my brains over it...

um, no. Sorry.
History didn't work that way.

Rocking the Casbah from _within_ the Casbah. And in Arabic, too!
No wonder the Clash loves him. He's bringing their song to the people for whom it was written.
Great version.
Love all the Algerian instrumentation.
