  • People dont know how to do math!!! Seriously! So they dont know what 15% means. You know that dont you! I just always assume that people who dont leave 20% didnt graduate from elementary school!

  • Then FIGHT for proper wages people DIED in strikes to get better pay and benefits in many industries. Form a PAC, lobby, organize and strike if needed to get a proper wage. I've traveled abroad and most nations I visited the staff all get the minimum wage, standard benefits and paid vacation days then tipping is EXTRA with some having a small service charge. They are still in business making money as restaurants over there.

  • Never leave a tip !!!!!!

  • @Ironbumm yeah I hate and don't believe in tipping anything.

  • To freaking everyone!!!!! Look standard is 15% gratuity which means gratefulness regardless the service! It's expected by us (servers) to server a grateful person. And a "tip" is anything more than 20% and that is up to the customer.

  • I usually tip only at restaurants but after seeing this video I would not tip you. Gratuity is extra money that I decide to give to you. It is up to me to figure out how much I wish to give you. Since I order normal one course meals it doesn't take you any more effort to deliver me a $3 burrito than it does to bring out a $40 lobster.

  • another actor

  • I tip.. I understand the nature of the job and their low wages.. I am Indian and I hate those cheap Indians who don't tip and argue with some irrelevant logic :P

  • Comment removed

  • I always tip but i think alot of ppl still don't know what % to tip but now i know lol

  • No.

  • On the tipping bussers etc.... Totally agree with you phil, I'm talkin pizza hut here. I never worked where you had to share your tips. I'm not saying I didnt work hard , you dont get only three lousy tables to take care of at pizza hut , sometimes you get the whole damn room , you run your AZZ off . I'm just saying when all I did was put two drinks down on the table , a pizza ,soda refills and then wrap up leftovers , I was happy with two .

  • If 15% percent is standard, hopefully you can tell me why the standard gratuity is 18%-20% at most restaraunts? FYI us servers tip about 1% on our sales to a food runner, bartender and the bussers. If we sell $500 in a night that means we give away $15 to fellow coworkers and at the end of the day your 15% tip is even less than that. Don't be an asshole If your service is good tip well.

  • We've been know to eat out 2 ,3, even 4 to 5 times a week. Dennys , ihop Chinese, mexican sit down, olive garden. Sometimes we eat dennys or ihop in the morn and a nicer rest at night . If we ate out 3 times a year , and I've known some STANGE people that do we could leave 8 , 10 or 15. But there is NO way I can tip 8 dollars every time we go to dennys or ihop which is like i said 2, 3 times a week

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes No offense, save money and eat at home.

  • @MmmMamaLikey , because I only tip 2 to 3 dollars a time , not 8 ? Sorry Im not going to eat at home just because i wont tip 8.00 five times a week. I have a 2yr old so we dont take up the table for long and we are easy customers to wait on - we both worked in food service. We like to eat out + for the frequency we do I think 2 to 3 is more than enough for Dennys. I dont need to save money which is why we eat out so frequently but im also not going to spend 160.00 a month on tips .

  • @MmmMamaLikey

seriously don't order food, if your not guna tip 20%.. thats rude and i will spit in your food next time.

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes if you can't afford a 20% tip each time you eat out, then eat out less... Home cooking is better for you anyway.

  • @missnaomi89 You seen our total? No matter , im not the only one who tips 3.00 at dennys. sometimes 4 pending on if i like them NOT the total . They dont do enough at dennys to get 8.00 4X a week even if i COULD spend 32.00 a week on tips. At Olivegard yest , she was at our table no less than 15 times! and did ALOT , drinks etc. so she got 8 . We are EASY to wait on Dennys doesnt even wrap our food , and the awful waitresses at Shari's here in oregon are lucky they get anything , lol.

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes I work for olive garden (and USED to work for Perkins which is very similar to denny's) and I'll tell you what, at olive garden I do a lot LESS work then I did at perkins, although to each individual guest it looks like I am doing more... the reason it seems as if I wasn't doing a lot at perkins was because they had me in the back washing dishes, rolling silverware, cooking etc WHILE i was serving tables all for my $4.00 per hour.....It's all behind the scenes. tip 20% period!

  • @missnaomi89 first of all I would like to say that I'm a different guy. secondly, you're both wrong. when i go out to eat I always make sure I have enough money to tip at least 50% but what I actually tip is based on the service I get. I don't care about the "standard" and I don't really care what servers do that doesn't involve me, because the tip is a reward for me getting good service. I've left anything from no tip to $25 on a $20 tab. how I tip is directly related to the service I get.

  • @hrtuvchrome thats exactly what I've been saying . I dont tip on the check amount .

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes what I've gotten from what you're saying is that, no matter what the service is like or how much you order, you leave maybe $5. the reason they do a percentage of the bill is because, traditionally, the higher the bill, the more work the server has to do.

  • @hrtuvchrome Absolutely not , not at the kind of rests I eat at . I do not order 7 course meals. The bill is always the same at Dennys Ihop. If they have to bring me something extra like a little glass of organge juice and the bill is 2.00 more than last week , I am not going to leave 3 dollars instead of two because of a 2 dollar glass of orange juice . If the bill is 20.00 instead of 18.00 because of that little orange juice I'm not going to leave another buck sorry.

  • @missnaomi89 i've eaten at Perkins in Pa TWICE , we were sat by the hostess and our food was brought by the manager, AND I found hair in my food twice . saw the waitress once. Had to get the check at the register Never been back. Thats YOUR problem that you stayed NOT mine . If youre dumb enough to stay its not MY problem. I'll tip what I want .

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes Dumb enough to stay? What?

  • 4 or 5 on 40 is NOT bad, Id take that. I worked at a pizza hut and the bill was commonly over 40. I was thrilled with 5 .

  • You probably weren't making $2.13 an hour (Almost all of which gets taxed down to $0) and in the unlikely event you were you shouldn't have been happy with the tips you got.

  • I most certainly WAS making 2 an hour. At first anyway, by the time I left I was up to a whopping 2.75 . And yes I was happy with five for the simple reason that two was the norm. 1or 2 fives on a slow night and around 2- 5 fives on a busy friday night was about adverage. Though you dont have to DO much at pizza hut. Now olive garden , with all the pepper grinding and cheese grating nonsense they make them do 2 is not enough.

  • Im a waiter right now and in our restaurant 18% gratuity is added to every bill but I guess thats because we are in NYC.

  • its not a tip its a tax - as soon as you start talking about 'standard amounts' and percentages its a tax. In the uk people dont tip that often, so when someones does, it is appreciated. Not in the USA, they only remember the people that dont tip, not the ones that do.

  • There are a lot of things that regular people don't know about servers and the industry until they work in it; tipping is the biggest one. I have to admit, I was ignorant before I became a waiter. There's so much more to just serving people than it seems.

  • @DJZanark Thank you! You exemplified that a person who has never worked in the industry can often be ignorant of these things until they DO work in the industry! =)

  • I suppose I should excuse that as a waiter, you can't comprehend simple mathethamical principles, but ummm, no I won't, I'll take you to task on it. You see, when your tip is a percentage of a number (say, food price) and that number goes up (say, due to inflation), then your tip goes up. So to justify increasing your tip from 15% to anything higher, because times have changed and things are more expensive, makes no logical sense.

  • @gary333snow Yes, my friend, but I was working (at the time) for a company who had LOWERED their prices to keep up and stay afloat. So, you mathematical genius, how does NOT make sense? Simple math.

  • @MmmMamaLikey Well, now you're leaving the arena of math and moving into political economic systems. And ours is - capitalism! So, yes, a company can shift their unfortunate economic events to their employees. And they do so at the risk the employees will find better paying jobs elsewhere. And if they can't, because all companies have done it equally...then...it's probably considered a "fair wage" by definition of being the same all around. See...it is simple.

  • @gary333snow Sorry, but I never really understood that . So , If a pizza at pizza hut is raised because olives are not in season then my tip should go down ? I dont care what the price of a breakfast is at Ihope or dennys , the waitress gets 2 to 4 dollars. Its not HER OR HIS fault what the prices on the menus are, they dont own the chain.

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes It is not their fault, BUT it is the reality of capitalism! If I work at a factory that makes mud pies then I am likely not to be paid as well as someone working as hard as someone working at a factory that makes a very popular product. Companies that do well pay their employees better. Companies that cut their worker's salaries because of economic conditions are at risk of the employee finding a better paying job elsewhere. I am NOT your communist guaranteed ECM!

  • @NoHaTeHeVanAwAtes Well, you're right about that. And I DO tip on that notion. I do not typically give 15% or higher when the bill is over $100 at a high end place...all sorta depends on my mood. After all, the waiter is working as hard as the Denny's waiter (honestly, probably not as hard). So yeah, at the cheap eats places...I give money that makes a difference...$2 to $5.

  • i live in Texas coming from Cali this has been difficult most people leave 10% jackasses i guess they just don' t understand on a 80$ bill five dollars oh come on i have been waiting on tables for 20 yrs and I'm very good at it . I'm always happy go lucky and people get great service what is wrong with people these days i have bills to pay to. Therefore if you cant tip right stay at home! Have a nice day!

  • I never made any money waiting tables. I always got screwed - as much by the place I worked for as by the customers. Even when you're doing side work or its slow, you still get that 2-3 an hour. You can panhandle and make more than than 2-3 bucks an hour. It's a slanted arrangement, in favor of the restaurant. I would work my ass off and come home with 50 bucks and exhausted. Never again.

  • I agree with you. And if my upbringing didn't stop me from doing so (out of pride), I would gladly stand at the end of the freeway and panhandle for money. Instead, I am considering my options whether I *really* want to go back into that field. It *IS* a slanted arrangement and servers ALWAYS get the raw end of the deal. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leaving a good comment! =)

  • as a waitor, i feel ya..but that whole 450 thing is pretty nice, down here in Louisiana, 213 is standard waiting pay. thanks for speaking up for all of us servers around the world who hate that 15% of the general population.

  • You're very welcome! And when I started off waiting tables some 10 years ago, that was our STANDARD rate as well, but it has increased each time they have increased minimum wage. And with the economy as bad as it is, they are now say...so I heard... that tipping 10% should become standard. Can you believe it? I feel another video coming on. Grrrrr

  • lets have another video please. Thanks Bill.

  • Thanks, but I have been out of the industry for about 9 months. Not much -- on that subject -- for me to Vlog on at the moment. (And I may not go back.) However, I have 10 years in the industry. Perhaps I *will* do another Vlog on it. God knows I have more than enough stories! Thanks for watching! =)

  • omg!!!! i couldent have said it better.... i probley would have droped way to many "f" bombs if i tried! and thebmxer1 yes you do have to tip! nothing is free and you have to pay for your sevice! i really think it should be added to the bill somtimes for all the assholes out there with no clue that at the end of most servers days you have to tip out, bartender, bussers and somtimes more.i can go on and on about this whole "tipping" situation...

  • Whoever owns the restaurant you work at is ultimately responsible for "tipping" you. If you don't feel he/she is paying you enough, grow a pair and demand a raise. If that fails, find another job that pays you what you seem to think you're worth. Idiot.

  • You obviously do not know the law. The restarant is RESPONSIBLE for making up the difference between what you make and the MINIMUM WAGE if you have a bad night (tip-wise). Hence, I could work my ass off -- and still get taxed for my sales of, let's say, $1000.00 -- but only make $6.50 an hour. The taxes STILL come out of my paycheck.

  • Servers RARELY get raises...if they have been at an establishemnt for a number of years, etc they DO. OTherwise, they make anywhere from $2.65-$4.50 per hour...and taxes are taken out of that. Hair stylists, delivery drivers, manicurists, et al... ALL make a higher hourly wage and make tips -- most of them do not have to REPORT their tips and, therefor, do not get taxed. Unfortunately, too many civilians DO NOT KNOW THIS. Like you.

  • And *I'm* the idiot?

  • I don't care what the law is. It's very simple: your customer doesn't owe you a tip. If you're not making enough money don't bitch that customers should tip you more, grow a set and tell your boss you want a raise. Find another career if you don't like it.

The tip has become an expectation now where it was always intended to be at the discretion of the customer, based on the Q of S.

It's ridiculous that people with no skills think they're entitled to so much.

  • You expect service, we expect tips. It's that simple. And don't think just because your server missed something is a lack of something on their part, maybe there a 6 other tables crying about needing more ice in their drink or something stupid. So tell me skilled person, how would you handle 6 tables all requesting something at the same time? HUH? You have two hands just as I do right?

  • 6 tables huh? Sounds rough.

    lol

  • Sadly, (derived from your previous statements) I'm sure you have never waited table, Beejusbeejus. *IF* this be ture, then I find it comical that you not only write about something you know nothing about, but with such fervor. I'm sure -- in THIS forum -- you will find limited support with your VERY narrow-minded and archaic views on this subject. You know not of what you speak and therefor sound ridiculous to many.

  • I will will bet a thousand dollars if i put u in my job....with six tables 3 of which being sat at ONE TIME and u being required by the managers to get to every table in under a minute.....that u couldnt do it....again peopel like u would get eaten alive in the biz! Ohh btw im in college have a 3.67 gpa work 25 hours a week and make over 500 a week....how bout u

  • lol

nickfame, you've managed to break every rule of trolling in your two posts to me.

I really do think it's impressive that you're able to wait on 6 tables at once. You ought to be very proud of that and I think you can expect a great and fulfilling career waiting tables. There's no need for you to feel ashamed to the point of creating fictitious standards which someone of your capacity could never live up to.

Best wishes on your waiting career.

    Sincerely,

    beejusbeejus

  • HAHA guy you are hilarious!! No need to make up anything! Not saying i'm rich just stating the facts that i'm a yound man myself in school... working hard to get through it and doign well...and you sir are the type of guy who gets a lovely brew of things in his food! I'm sure you have eaten at a restaurant on more than one occasion...and assumign you tip like you talk...they remeber...and I can bet any amount of money that your food has been altered. So say what yopu wish to me online and enjoy

  • "say what yopu wish to me online and enjoy"

I'd tell you the same but I see you've already granted yourself that privilege.

When you're finished college and have your near 4.0 GPA, do me a favor: sue them for your money back. Show them your posts here - they'll settle, I guarantee it. That should help supplement your waiting income for several years in place of lacking tips.

    kind regards -

    beejusbeejus

  • Ha im sure that you are suuuuuuch a great rich guy posting on youttube. I would LOVE to see what you do and who you are!

  • It's always funny when trolls like you have nothing but the best to say about themselves while at the same time assuming the worst about those around them.

  • ha how am i a troll? by telling u peopel like you get their food spit in haha think what u wish guy!!!

  • I honestly hope you're kidding about doing stuff like that to people's food. Not because I'm worried that I may have eaten it or anything (I haven't eaten out in a long time, it's unhealthy) but simply because I would never spit in my worst enemy's food, let alone someone who didn't tip me - if I was a waiter, that is.

I think that's a terrible violation of trust. I don't know how you could watch someone unknowingly eat something that came out of any of your orifices.

  • I personally wouldnt....only because why do somethign to someone if they wont find out...no point...the fact is...many restaurants do...id say everyone in the world gets soemthing in their food at some point...anyway I dont feel like arguing over the computer anymore. Tip what you wish cuz for everyone of you theres people who respect the shit we do whether paying for college or a house and they make up for people like you!! Take care pimp!

  • To be clear I never said I don't respect the profession or what you do. My problem, originally, was with the attitude of the person in the video who believes he has some sort of RIGHT to tips. I don't believe it's a right, you should have to work for them. Generally, if you work hard at it and are attentive to your customers, you'll be tipped so you have nothing to worry about.

And I'm sorry but it is not a skilled profession, you can learn how to do it well on the job and in a matter of weeks.

  • By the way, if you're ever caught doing that I am certain that your troubles won't end with a quick termination.

Now STFU. You're past the point of being boring.

  • your next meal out!

  • what an idiot!

  • guess what...if u came into my restaurant ONCE! ONCE and tipped me bad and then came back...ur food would have spit in it...people like YOU get their food spit in on a regualr basis....hahaha ive put my dick in mashed potatoes of people like u ahahaha

  • you are so right

  • Put yuor priorities right dude.

Guest will tip because you are a great server and not because they have to tip...

  • Wrong. Many don't know really know how to tip. They just don't know the standards. Have you ever been a waiter?

  • I reply to a guy below and it puts my response at the top. That's stupid of youtube.

  • Yes, but what those people don't know is that servers make (hourly) anywhere from $2.65 to $4.50 per hour and then are taxed on THAT. A bi-weekly paycheck for a server is usually UNDER $100.00. We SURVIVE off of our tips. Our paychecks don't pay the bills... our tips do.

  • @MmmMamaLikey You survive off your tips because your employer pays you pittance, and he/she can do that because the federal government's Fair Labor & Standards Act says so. Those two entities are responsible for how little or how much you get paid. The customers own no responsibility for paying your rent. And don't give me the argument that higher wages would lead to higher prices because then people would just eat out less, thereby rendering you out of a job entirely.

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha...i wait tables and i am right there with you!

  • I know it always FEELS like a good idea to just lash out at the general populous like this and call them morons, but anybody who doesn't tip, and DOES see this, will NEVER tip.

You're doing more harm for us than good.

I understand what you're trying to do, you're just trying to educate people, but do you think blatant insults will really change minds or encourage people to tip well?

I'll be making a video soon about tipping, look for it in a couple weeks.

  • To the public who truly is interested in appreciating great service, google 20% tipping, and you get some great articls on how to express your appreciation for great service! It's not about the money, it's about showing a great server you appreciated their hospitality! I get AWESOME tips OVER 30% at times from first time guests and regular guests, and their kindness just makes your day!

  • Oh really? It's not about the money? That's good to know because next time I eat out I will simply tell the waiter/waitress that (s)he's doing a great job and (s)he'll be happy with that. No money required! Good to know, thanks moron!

  • that last comment was for gary333snow, who is in his 4o's and thinks 15% is a good tip cuz he's stuck in the 70's and 80's and GOOGLES whether it's 15 or 20 like a moron. He KNOWS, he's just a cheap old early bird dirtbag who wants his FREE refills and extra bread instead of an appetizer. *rolls eyes

  • And you're a moron because using a percentage accounts for inflation as the DOLLARS will increase with food prices, so your argument is that you should receive a higher wage for the same job BEYOND inflation increases. Well you can...it's called GOING TO COLLEGE. That's why I'm a RICH idiot and you're just a poor smuhck. Tipping is voluntary, so keep calling me names, I think it's working. Oh, and bring me some more water, please.

  • im in college...and i pay for a house....and a car...and i look great and i serve and guess what rich mam...when i meet people like you! and beleive me we can spot peopel like you from a mile away....we do shit ot yer food....i spit in it rub my dick in it drop it on the floor cum in it put boogers in it...and i guarantee with that attitude it happens to you plenty!!! Buahahahahahahaha ill bring u water lemme hock a big one for ya first!!! cunt!!

  • @nickfame If you don't serve customers rite, you don't deserve a tip.. You moron

  • @stillwaterusa lol bro this shit was a year ago...i get tipped plenty and im a good waiter...its a shitty job but its great for paying yer way thru schhol so w.e. i dont feel like rehatching shit from a year ago i have more importnant moron things to do like color pretty pictures

  • ive probably commented on every waiting video. but again think you for bringing awareness to stupid people assuming they can operate a copmputer....we all know they can't operate a calculator..cucking funts..tnks again:)

  • have you seen the movie "Waiting"......pretty funny. "Don't fuck with people who handle your food".

  • or 35 maybe more?

  • Why does it matter?

  • are you like 30 years old?

  • TIP 20%. 20% is standard. Any server would tell you. On our receipts, it prints out and the lowest tip percentage that is listed is 18%, 20% is standard, and 22% is for excellence. and 20% of a bill really isn't that much, unless of course, you're ridiculously cheap.

  • Thank you for the comment! :) 22% would rock.

  • check out my video on tipping! granted i was drunk, but thats how much my nite sucked.. i was still pissed. now we get NFL fans that take up our tables for the whole nite, ignore us and all demand service during commercial breaks, then if thier team loses, and they realize how much they spent, they jip the tip. please people... i gotta pay rent, gas, and 3% of EVERY ticket..

    ~MMS

  • Hmm, I googled the 20% standard you mentioned and didn't find any significant support for it. The Anmerican Travel Industry said that 15% is standard in the U.S. with "20% for superlative service".

  • You know Gary....most servers make 2.13 per hour and they depend on that 20% tip yes I said 20... gas is 3 bucks a gallon for gods sake man!!! You probably don't even leave 15% do ya?

  • If the server sucks, I don't leave 15%. You betch yo ass I'm not going to tip someone who isn't working for his/her wage. I have worked quite hard for my money. Now that money isn't an issue, I find that I am relatively generous with my tips. But if someone is simply doing a poor job, their tip will reflect it.

  • p.s. You still failed to disprove my point that the internet consensus does not support your 20% tip request. If your argument is simply, you got the money, you should just give it to me...you're DEFINITELY not going to win my vote. 15% is the rule...google it yourself.

  • In the service industry, 20% is standard for good service. 15% is left for decent service. Ask any server.

  • I can appreciate that the servers want 20%. I can only wish that my employers would ask me what I should be paid. But I am just saying that when I try to check this via the internet, the most common answer I find is the 15%. And one cannot use the argument that inflation justifies it to be 20% because inflation also inlfates the bill, so the 15% is more $ than it was a few years ago. But if you do good service, as I did when I was a waiter, I did quite well.

  • I do not "ask" what I should be paid... I expect to be paid what the standard is. Sort of like minimum wage. By the way, my avergae every night is just about 20%. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. But RARELY, if ever, do I walk away -- after tipping out -- with 15% or less.

  • Then you must be a great waiter. I would hope to have you or someone of your caliber as I would reward such service.

  • After doing it for 10 years, I'd like to think I am. That is why I do all the training at my restaurant and work five days a week. But it would be a pleasure to wait on you sometime. :)

  • As a long time professional server in fine dining, let me clear this up for you. 15% is the average, at Denny's or IHOP. Good service, but very basic. When you dine upscale with the polished glasses and silver, the server guides you through your experience and gives that extra touch, 20%. Figure it this way, if I know you allergic to Garlic, what else do I keep from your plate so you don't have seizures? For 20% I'll tell you.

  • Very true. 15% is substandard :(

  • THANK YOU!

  • u're a cheap idiot

  • your great..... thats all

  • Thank you! :)

  • WOW! How does a server earn a living wage there?!?!? That's crazy. (And, yes, now I am counting my blessings.)

  • Hey - just be glad you don't wait tables in France. Here they are lucky to get 5% -and that's on a good day!!

  • EXACTLY! Who wants to figure out 12% anyway??? 20% is soooo easy!!! Amen, sister. Glad to hear you're a restaurant-vet... who got out!!! Keep watching! :)

  • I hear ya...I was in the industry for 9+ years and I have to leave the tip when I go out with my husband because he thinks 12% is okay!?! I always tell him that 20% is easier to calculate anyway. I'm so glad I'm not waiting tables anymore. :-)
