@jstone114 Thanks for the really rude message! If you read closer you see I said PAUL, as in Mr. NOT-In-Brad-Paisley's-Band Schaefer. When Paul Schaefer comes in, he turns the song from the jamming tune we all love into 3rd grade kids sneaking into the music room. I have listened to this song and this performance at least a dozen times because it is so good. Paul's contribution is laughable. Brad's contribution is amazing. But I digress, I have to go off and die in a hole now.

When you get really good....I mean REALLY REALLY good, you learn how to make substitutions for substitutions and syncopate your syncopations. Musically it can be off-the-charts brilliant, but I admit that, to the untrained ear, it can sound like a piano falling down the stairs.

@steadiguy I am a professional musician, so I hear what you're saying about grace. But Paul was clearly outshined on that stage. He sounded very out of his element playing that stuff. Though, you couldn't tell until he took his solos and traded riffs with Brad. If he just stuck to comping, he would have been okay.

@timobloozer I completely agree. I too am a professional country touring artist. I've played over 200 shows every year for the past 4 years and have been performing and playing guitar all my life. You can completely tell that Paul was fucking around on stage. I do it all the time. If I have to play with other artists or I'm just jamming, when we trade 4's or 8's we usually try to see who can play the most stupid shit we can think of but still sound half way decent. It's hillarious.

Thank goodness Brad is such a professional. He held it together and his guitar playing saved what he could of the performance. But seriously, Paul was dreadful... if he wasn't drunk, his publicist should tell people he was. The fiddle player seemed to be looking over to see what was up with Paul & there was even a moment where they cut to the audience b/c Paul was doing lord knows what! Sadly, instead of Brad ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR Paisley I'm going to remember Paul's shenanigans.
