A true masterpiece, remember this from early 1981, believe it or not it got to number 2 in the charts, held of the top spot by Joe Dolce and "Shadup a you face" unbelievable!! Thank you for posting officialultravox.
It should have been Number one song on the lists. We still play them at home 30 years later. They are like a good red wine, get's better as years pass!!
is it just me or does warren's drumming go right through you? i heard they did most of the video in a carpark either in or near covent garden. always loved the little mustache on midge. it was very much part of the 80's.
general consensus is that midge ure should have been a roadie for japan...japan should have been massive, along with the chameleons...the lost bands of the 80s..the major band of the 80s that was overlooked is an australian band called THE CHURCH a very influential band to this day
lol brave man. You'd think this would be one of those songs that a bunch of other bands would cover... I'd like to hear The Sisters Of Mercy or Concrete Blonde do this. Definitely need a great voice to attempt this.
MIDGE URE's voice is very impressive.this song,is classic ultravox.what is great,he can sing live the same, even they are using synths+computers etc. thanks for sharing!
I cannot for the life of me figure out how this was such a big hit. I mean, i love the song, i just can't see how ot appealed to so many people. It just doesn't seem all that commercial. If thisa was released this week i am almost certain it wouldn't be a big hit.
Your nightmare has GONE Veela because you won't be meeting Rapid again in european competition. It meant nothing to them.
This season we all pray that 2 of the so-called 'mighty fall' and 'do a leeds' both teams play in claret and blue and think they are so much bigger than they are or ever have been....
I loved this song so much when it first came out, I used to pretend to be in the video whenever it got dark - although far from being in a pop group in Vienna, I was a 9 year old in Norwich and more often than not in my grandparents' back garden.
The 80's ruled the world with the music. Great groups and singers from so many countries. That decade can never be recreated. A whole era unto itself. The hair, clothes, different styles that came out. Glad I was around to enjoy the whole decade.
I enjoy these surreal music videos very much! Also the fact these aren't anywhere near the deficient class of modern music such as the JB shit or Lady Gaga whore. They are gut-wrenching and despicable. Makes my ears bleed, God!
well, maybe if they used am easy pop drum beat with lyrics about nightclubs, drinks, fashion, boy meets girl blahblah........... and had some naked women on the video.......... maybe then they would've reached number 1
@raykings1886 That is so trure my friend, the artist how made number 1 and kept it off the top of the charts is long forgotten just like the single shuut up your face ? by some sad git
funny how that happened, nothing surprises me with the english public
You have to wonder who bought Joe Dolce's "Shaddap You Face" and kept this out of No.1 for THREE weeks. I can understand John Lennon doing it (killed in New York just over a month before) but Joe Dolce!
It's hard to believe that this was one of the early MTV videos! Nothing cheesy looking about this. Way ahead of it's time, and has always been one of my favorite videos. Ok, Midge Ure isn't the best lip syncher, and kind of looks like she should be a member of the "Python" gang, but I still love it, and the song too!
Back then this album (yes kids, album) shared space in my record collection with disparate groups such as; Misfits, Chet Baker, JoyDivision, Bowie, Handel, Clash, Miles Davis, Stranglers, King Tubby, Black Flag, Frank Zappa, Roxy Music, Wagner, The Damned..etc. All quality. Seemed as though being open to all these different types of music was natural to those I knew.
Kept off no.1 by "Woman" fair enough but "shaddupya face"?? though put vienna on then shuddupya face at a wedding and see which gets most people on the dance floor after 17 pints???Classic song of classic era, still remember shades at Live Aid
This is almost a semi-eerie composition, almost suitable for a rock musical of sorts. Very interesting song, and accompanying video. I liked it. Thumbs up.
I don´t believe 50 people dislike this video... They have no idea what they lost in the 80s.. Fortunately, many bands are stil "alive and kicking" as well! :) Cheers
this is such a atmospheric video. i love it. love ultravox and midge too. and his sexy voice, and mustache. brings me rightback to when i was a teenager again.

I love 80's music and videos. Spider crawling on some guys face, guy with a hook hand drinking a martini, a bunch of European aristocrats from a bygone era hanging around in an opera house, chick with bleeding nail wounds in her face, guy with a white furry thing on his face, another guy getting shot and flopping on the staircase.
