Fogerty was pissed off because unlike the privileged who get a Senator to commute there draft status he had to serve. My dad was drafted and served in Vietnam as well. @tyrellasaurusrex this main isnt unpatriotic, he was just sharing his thoughts (mostly confusion) in the song that alot of soldiers shared, they are told they are patriots fighting the good fight, albeit following sometimes cruel orders fighting an odd enemy and losing much of themselves in a wierd corner of the world, only to come home to people who hate them.
this song is about the regular joe's confusion about the whole fiasco.

Not to bring a gamer conversation into here, but when I play the Vietnam DLC for BF:BC2 I enjoy playing this song on the radio as I rush over a hill with my m16! This is one of my fav Vietnam war songs.

Very poignant anti-war song. Remembering the time when this was written and popular, in the midst of the Vietnam War, it truely captured the anger felt by many draftees.
This song, together with Eve of Destruction, is among the best Anti-war songs of the sixties.

This song reflects the way we felt in the 60's: that our government was corrupt, our Government officials thought they were above the law and abused their power to enter our brave hero troops into wars that were not warranted - in this case - Vietnam. The men who fought in Vietnam were heroes.
The government is still as corrupt today...

@keishiegurl Gee, if the soldiers are fighting under the orders of "the dirty, twisted mother fuckers we have for politics", it does not seem like they would be fighting for a cause that was good, does it? This has nothing to do with the soldiers themselves, of course. Soldiers just follow orders from superiors. The motivations of the leaders do not make any difference. Soldiers apply force and fight. That is their job. But if you see American leadership as so corrupt, why glorify the soldiers?
