@mandolaman12 Finally somebody who has something intelligent to say. The occidental adaptation of Haiku as a poetry form doesn't makes really sense. Octavio Paz committed a lot of mistakes when he tried to adapt the form. At first: a mora, or a character is not a syllable, so is very stupid pretend to write a Haiku with a 5-7-5 form. Besides, Haiku is not just pure metric, has a cultural and historical ground back that justified it.
(to) senior out (verb): To tire, become too weak to function. To do it like an oldster. "I couldn't make the late movie. I seniored out, went to bed at ten."
If you love Kerouac like I do, check out my new book Road Trippn' (by Sean McLaughlin), a tribute to Jack; youth; Freedom; Love; God; sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and America set across the country and culminating in the streets of NYC, a month prior to the attacks of 9/11. I can't really be bothered to look up western haiku but surely if an asian country started using iambic pentameter, called it eastern iambic pentameter but didn't use iambic pentameter we would accuse them of intellectual arrogance? Also the talent that I'm so proud of I reserve for your Dad and step-brother. I'm not bigoted, I just think your opinion is invalid
that's not really a response as you haven't said anything new....in fact, you basically capitulated for being a numb-nuts haven't you? Surely you must have liked how I worked 'Belshazar' into an insult though? A 'haiku' insult at that, that's talent mate xx
a haiku is 5-7-5 syllables. If you count the beats my friend...Incidentally, 'gay' is a general insult in England, a bit like spazz or twat, it doesn't literally mean what the original connotation of the word suggests. Rather like 'fuckface' is a meaningless insult, it's just two words combined. Unless it's a verb rather than an adjective in which case it sounds like an agressive sexual activity which your mother probably resents you doing to her
this is american or western haiku, which is not limited to the five seven five pattern. you might as well be saying blank verse isn't iambic pantameter. by definition any three line poem is a haiku, though they normally fit either the unrestricted western format, the original japanese five-seven-five, which works best in the language it was invented for or the inverse seven five seven. learn your shit before you spew it
I'm sorry if I upset anyone. Wasn't in the best of places when I wrote that, and I intend to remove it now. I duly note my own ignorance, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
It helped that he looked like a Hollywood actor. If he'd have looked like Charles Laughton would anybody have listened to him? Actually Charles Laughton does a great reading of Kerouac, Google: 'Dharma beat Charles Laughton' and you'll hear it. All best - Al of Yahoo! Group: Beat_Happening.
Well, I didn't really know what Kerouac looked like when I first read On the Road. Furthermore, I'm heterosexual! His looks didn't and couldn't help him at all with me. Yet, he's my favorite writer. The Duluoz Legend is better than Harry Potter or DaVinci Code because it's better than Harry Potter and DaVinci Code, not because Jack Kerouac has movie star looks while Rowling looks like a beaten boxer and Dan Brown looks like an even gayer Bret Easton Ellis.
Well, thats just like your opinion.... maaaan. If you dont like him, dont read or pay attention to his material. Why dont you pick up a nice Twilight book instead or perhaps Harry Potter because gee... theyre so original and thought provoking!
Just messin with you buddy,
anyways what book of his have you read? Personally I thought On The Road was overrated but I LOVED The Dharma Bums, that was a very enjoyable read.
