@yogi2011 - Well, you saw the comparison so I guess you know what the differences are. Both systems are pretty obsolete and won't give you a good impression of a modern mac, but it would give you a feel for the operating system (as long as it were loaded with an up-to-date version) You can buy cheap G4 systems on my website. ibookguy dot com.
@yogi2011 I think you should but the iBook g4, not only because superior speeds, but also for the superior technology that is implemented on it, which will make your life much easier and compatible with everyone else's computers and networks, saving at first isn't always the best because for a bit more you can buy a way more advanced computer and end up saving less on external accessories. @IsaacMillerALT - Not on a G3 or G4. You need at least an Intel CPU to run Snow Leopard. You can run Final Cut Pro 5 on top of Leopard on a G4 pretty well.
I'm getting a G4 tomorrow and I'm trying to tell my Dad that $280.00 is a really great price for a Mac but he will only let me get it. If it can install "Final Cut Express 4" Because of Film School I have to have a Final Cut program. I was wondering if "Final Cut Express 4" could run on a G4? @lestert03 - Ugh... not really. I suppose if the RAM is upgraded to 640K, it might be worth it.. but you seriously need to upgrade the OS because 10.2 is pretty ancient. Almost no software will run on that. You need to 10.3 MINIMUM, preferably 10.4

@cycle50fifty - You most definitely CAN NOT install snow leopard on a G3. In fact, you can't even install regular leopard. Best you can do is Tiger. But I think I went over that in the video.

Those are just software programs, they don't even come with the computer, you have to buy the iLife suite of software to install those. The G3 can run iLife '05 as the newest version. The G4's can run '06 and parts of '08.
Hi, I have a question on whether or not to get these ibooks. Some one in my city is selling an ibook g3 for $40. Sounds like a good deal but the battery is dead, it has the yoyo charger which the connection has been resoldered(he says it works though) and the hinge on the screen has poped out and so the display sits at an angle, and the dvd/cd drive doesnt work. Everthing else does though. it has 500 MHz g3, and 128 MB of ram. Should i get it? Thanks.

I own a Polycarbonate MacBook and an iBook G3. I can guarantee you that the G3 is one of the most wonderful computers I have ever owned. You can run almost anything on them.

The first iBook G3's had the coloured cases and rounded lids, I thought all G3's were like that, but clearly I'm wrong, when did Apple introduce the white iBook G3?

The White G3s started in May 2001. The ones you are thinking of are the clamshells.
