@chubbybrown4real Thank you for your post. i would advise that you contact British Gas for a price. As pricing can vary somewhat depending upon installation difficulty and existing system details.
@chubbybrown4real Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes I can confirm the two are similar as both appliances include Stirling engine technology to generate electricity. Please let me know if you need any further information.
@MrGuvEuroman We're glad you'd like to learn more about the Baxi Ecogen. We do currently run technical courses on the Baxi Ecogen, although only in conjunction with other courses. However, an area you may wish to look into is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme which covers this technology as well as other microgeneration products.
If you would like to email us your details, we can put you in touch with your local Baxi sales representative who will be able to advise you further.
@MiMoassociate Thanks for your comments. You can expect to pay around £3000 more than a regular boiler. This initial cost can be recouped through savings on fuel bills.
The Baxi Ecogen is a heat only boiler that can be used on UK standard S/Y/W plan systems so an unvented cylinder or thermal store is needed for hot water.
PM me your details if you'd like to speak to someone and arrange a visit to a live installation.
Compared to your Duo-tec Combi HE A boiler that's received rave reviews where about would you place this new Ecogen boiler - worse, the same, or better in performance/efficiency, and by how much. Thanks.
Yes the Baxi Duo-tec Combi has had some great reviews and the Duo-tec Combi 28 HE is winner of CORGI Boiler of the Year 2008. The Baxi Ecogen is a SEDBUK Band A appliance and uses the same heat engine as the Baxi Duo-tec so they are fairly equal when it comes to efficiency.
However it is difficult to compare them in other terms as they are two completely different products. The Baxi Duo-tec Combi is a boiler while the Baxi Ecogen is a Combined Heat and Power appliance.
SEDBUK allows for a fair comparison of the energy performance of different boilers. A more efficient boiler will produce less CO2, use less fuel and therefore reduce heating costs. The ratings are similar to those on electrical appliances with A being the most efficient.
In laymans terms 70% efficient boiler, 70% of the gas is used in heating, 30% is wasted. Plus all new boilers fitted these days need to be SEDBUK A or SEDBUK B.
Baxi Ecogen is a SEDBUK Band A boiler compared to a back boiler which is around SEDBUK D or E. The Ecogen would be more efficient at space heating and providing hot water in a house than if it was fitted with a back boiler. However it should be noted that the Baxi Ecogen will channel some of its gas usage into the production of electricity. Power is generated at a third of the cost of standard electricity prices. Even while it's producing electricity more of the gas will be used for heating.
Yeah great - good quality video and the Big Voice doing the voice-over (with a few sound-level issues!).
But what about the REAL noise of a free-piston machine thrashing up and down at 50Hz in the average kitchen? If it's REALLY a 'real product', let us see AND hear the real thing actually working!
The Baxi Ecogen is specially designed to reduce both noise and vibrational characteristics.
When running the unit is around 45dB - which compares to a fridge running and is less than a lot of current boilers. Hopefully we can get some footage of the boiler operating in a real life situation so you can hear for yourself.
We would be looking at selling the unit in France, however their particular preferred configurations, i.e. Combi and FSB Store will not be available until 2010.
This has still to be determined however in relative terms to a standard boiler fit, you are probably looking at between £250 to £500 more than a conventional gas boiler as you need to connect up the electrics back to the distribution box and change the electrical meter to an import / export version.

Still no price indication.
Will this boiler need a thermal store if I replace my combi boiler?
I've been trying to get detailed info from Baxi for 18 months, registered for updates & still no news.
I would like to visit a live installation to assess performance &noise levels.
Will this be possible? Many questions but little response from BAXI to date.
No reviews available to date.

On the test you have been running with it ,what would you say the increase of gas usage compaired to your baxi 55 [I think] back boiler

More of the gas will be used for space heating when compared with a traditional gas back boiler as the Ecogen is more efficient.

Do you manufacture a gasifier to run this or any of your other boilers? If not then that is your next mission if you choose to take it :)
lendusaquid 3 years ago
No, the product is configured to link in with the most readily available heating fuel network in the EU which at this point in time is natural gas.
